A Gilded Cage of Love - Chapter 2
If you can’t win head-on, know when to quit.
I quickly packed my luggage and took Ruan Annian and Jiang Qin back to Gangcheng.
It happened to be summer vacation, so we treated it as a trip.
It wasn’t until the extended Lincoln drove into the Kaimao Villa Area that I snapped back to reality.
Turns out, even after five years, I still remembered the way to Jiang Qin’s house by heart.
“Mommy…”
Niannian had slept the whole way. Seeing his soft, sleepy face, my heart softened.
“Niannian, we’re almost there. We’ll stay at this uncle’s house for a few days with Mommy, and we’ll go home soon, okay?”
Jiang Qin’s voice was threatening: “Where else do you want to go?”
“Home.”
Jiang Qin emphasized, “Your home is right here.”
I turned my head away and said nothing.
But Niannian kept marveling, “Mommy, it’s so beautiful here.”
Kaimao Villa Area, where every inch of land is precious-of course it’s beautiful.
It’s flower season, and the whole garden is bursting with blooms.
“If Niannian likes it here, then stay with Mommy.”
Niannian said proudly, “I like it here, but I listen to Mommy. Wherever Mommy is, that’s where I go.”
My heart fluttered, and I shot a proud glance at Jiang Qin.
But he turned to look out the window.
A mysterious smile lingered at the corner of his lips.
Looking at the familiar building in front of me, I sighed silently in my heart.
It’s been so long.
It feels like a lifetime ago.
When I opened the door, I realized the interior was exactly the same as before.
The warm-toned sofa covers were chosen by me, the candy-colored floor lamp was chosen by me, and even the couple mugs on the coffee table were the ones I bought.
Only now, the men’s mug sat alone outside.
The only difference-
Was a whole wall of toys.
Just as I hoped, I heard Niannian’s excited “Wow!”
Jiang Qin laughed, “Uncle will help you open them.”
I ground my teeth silently.
This man-he’s sly, always knows how to win people over.
Wearing the pink slippers Jiang Qin had prepared, I shuffled over to the toys, speaking with a sarcastic tone.
“You sure are generous buying toys for someone else’s son.”
Jiang Qin: “Mhm.”
He somehow produced a velvet box: “I also buy necklaces for someone else’s wife.”
I looked down.
Damn!
It was the showpiece I’d saved on Xiaohongshu just a few days ago!
Before I could react, Jiang Qin took Niannian’s hand and led him inside: “Uncle will show you your room.”
Clutching the velvet box tightly, I followed, looking at the carefully decorated children’s room in front of me.
“You can even prepare such a nice room for someone else’s son?”
Jiang Qin leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, his smile slowly stretching, his tone drawn out: “That’s right, and I also want to sleep in the same room as someone else’s wife.”
Back then, I was completely bewitched by his face.
My heart raced wildly. Thinking of what Jiang Qin just said, I stressed:
“Niannian has always slept with me.
“Without me, he can’t sleep.
“So tonight, Niannian and I will sleep together.”
Niannian instinctively protested, “Mommy, I’m a man, when have I ever…”
I shot him a fierce look.
Niannian shivered, then quickly changed his tune: “When have I ever… not slept with Mommy.”
Little rascal, at least you know what’s good for you.
