99% Match, But He Smells Like My Ex-Boss - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
I thought Lu Zhiheng would disappear for a few days.
But the very next day, he showed up at my company building.
Not as my match.
But as a client.
I’m currently at a small product consulting firm.
My boss called me into the conference room first thing in the morning, grinning like he’d found money.
“Song Zhi, Qingyao’s new project specifically requested you to take charge.”
I looked at the familiar logo on the contract.
“I refuse.”
My boss’s smile froze.
“Why?”
“Personal reasons.”
“The pay is very high.”
“How high?”
He held up a number.
I fell silent.
Personal reasons could be tolerated a bit.
Poverty, not so much.
When I got to the conference room, Lu Zhiheng was already there.
He wasn’t wearing glasses today.
Nor the oppressive black suits he used to wear.
White shirt, gray jacket, his pheromones completely contained.
I couldn’t smell the fir.
Which annoyed me even more.
I sat down.
“President Lu, let’s keep it strictly business.”
He nodded.
“Strictly business.”
Then he handed me the project materials.
I flipped through two pages and froze.
The new project was called “White Tower.”
An enterprise system specifically designed for Omega workplace pheromone protection.
It included anonymous reporting, heat period permission protection, medical data encryption, and inducer anomaly monitoring.
Every single feature felt like patching the holes Qingyao had once owed me.
I looked up at him.
“What are you doing this for?”
“It’s what the product needs.”
“Lu Zhiheng.”
He paused.
“So no one else will go through what you did.”
The conference room fell silent.
I lowered my head and continued reading the proposal.
I had to admit, he’d hit a sore spot.
And my soft spot too.
I could reject Lu Zhiheng.
But it was hard to reject this project.
Midway through the discussion, my phone rang.
It was the Matching Center.
“Ms. Song, regarding your match report, we’ve discovered that some of the original data was illegally accessed.”
My heart sank.
“What do you mean?”
“Someone applied for a match prediction between you and Mr. Lu Zhiheng two years ago.”
I looked at Lu Zhiheng.
He had heard it too.
The staff member continued:
“The applicant was Qingyao Technology, submitted by Han Che.”
I gripped my phone.
So Han Che had known the specific values two years ago.
In other words, the Yunqi Incident wasn’t a last-minute setup.
It was a scheme aimed at me and Lu Zhiheng from the very beginning.
Lu Zhiheng stood up.
“To the Matching Center.”
I said, “I’ll go myself.”
He looked at me.
“Alright.”
And he actually sat back down.
That took me aback.
Lu Zhiheng said softly, “I’ll wait downstairs.”
“If you need me, I’ll come up.”
