99% Match, But He Smells Like My Ex-Boss - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Lu Zhiheng said nothing.
He was too good at silence.
That was what I hated most about him before.
As if everything was under his control, and others could only wait for judgment.
I picked up my bag.
“That’s it for today.”
Lu Zhiheng reached out to stop me, then halted.
“Song Zhi.”
I turned back.
“President Lu, any other work instructions?”
His throat tightened.
“I’m sorry.”
Those three words were later than any explanation.
Two years late.
When I left Qingyao, it was raining outside.
I didn’t have an umbrella.
I stood at the building entrance, my phone popping up a review notice from the Matching Center.
[Review Result: Song Zhi and Shen Yanci compatibility 99.12%.]
[Recommend both parties undergo stability soothing assessment as soon as possible.]
I stared at that name.
Shen Yanci.
Not Lu Zhiheng.
Even the matching report felt like a lie.
Someone came up behind me holding an umbrella.
The fir scent was very faint.
Lu Zhiheng stood beside me.
“I’ll give you a ride.”
“No need.”
“It’s raining hard.”
“I’ve been through worse rain than this.”
His hand on the umbrella tightened.
I walked into the rain.
Not ten steps out, my scent gland suddenly stung sharply.
My vision started to go dark.
Lu Zhiheng rushed over and supported me.
“Song Zhi!”
I wanted to push him away.
But my body moved closer first.
The fir scent enveloped me.
Like a cold palm pressed against a burning forehead.
I hated this instinct.
It made my hatred seem pathetic.
Lu Zhiheng helped me into the car and took out a soothing patch.
He didn’t touch the back of my neck.
He just put the patch in my hand.
“Put it on yourself, okay?”
I gritted my teeth and applied it.
The medicine took effect slowly.
A highly compatible Alpha’s scent was right beside me; my body didn’t want the medicine, it only wanted him.
This was more humiliating than any insult.
Lu Zhiheng sat in the driver’s seat, looking straight ahead.
He lowered the window a crack, letting the rain smell dilute the pheromones.
I asked softly, “Did you hold back like this before, too?”
His fingers paused.
“Mm.”
“That night in the closed project team?”
“Mm.”
“That night at the hospital?”
He was silent.
I turned to look at him.
“Those scratches on your arm, they weren’t from a cat?”
Lu Zhiheng said quietly, “No.”
I closed my eyes.
Many old scenes suddenly gained new explanations.
He always transferred me away before my heat periods.
Always sat farthest from me in meetings.
Always criticized my proposals as worthless, but kept my core designs in the final versions.
I used to think he hated me.
Now I found out, he was just protecting me in a very irritating way.
But if protection isn’t told, it looks too much like harm.
I said, “Lu Zhiheng, I won’t accept it.”
He looked out at the rain.
“I know.”
“Don’t decide for me again.”
“Alright.”
“And don’t appear before me using the name Shen Yanci again.”
His voice was very soft.
“Alright.”
