99% Match, But He Smells Like My Ex-Boss - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
The next morning, I stood in front of the Qingyao Building.
It looked the same as it had two years ago.
Glass facade, cold-colored logo, the air in the lobby even seemed laced with performance metrics.
The only difference was that the receptionist had changed.
When she asked me to sign in, she saw my name and her expression clearly faltered.
“Song Zhi?”
“Yes.”
She lowered her head to send a message.
Soon, someone came out from the elevator.
It was my former direct supervisor, Han Che.
He looked at me with a very fake smile.
“Long time no see, Manager Song.”
I said, “I’m not a manager anymore.”
“That’s true.”
His tone was dismissive.
“After the incident back then caused such a huge uproar, can you still work in this industry?”
I looked at him.
“Did CEO Han call me here for a review, or to catch up?”
The smile on Han Che’s face faded.
“Still as stubborn as ever.”
We went into the conference room.
Inside were people from Legal, HR, and two strangers.
No Lu Zhiheng.
I breathed a sigh of relief, then felt ridiculous.
Lu Zhiheng had stepped down two years ago.
I heard he later developed health problems and went abroad to recuperate.
I never saw him again.
Legal turned on the recording device.
“Ms. Song, before the Yunqi Project went live two years ago, did you modify the user permission policy without authorization?”
I frowned.
“No.”
“The system logs show that the night before the incident, your account performed high-risk permission operations.”
“Someone else logged into my account.”
I had said this countless times two years ago.
No one believed it.
Because that night, I was indeed at the company.
And because of the warning signs of my heat, I really was in terrible shape.
Han Che tapped the table.
“Song Zhi, two years later, and you’re still sticking to that story?”
I looked at him.
“Then which story do you want to hear?”
“For example, an admission that you privately changed the policy to meet the deadline.”
“And then?”
“The company could consider not pursuing your liability for damages.”
I laughed.
So this wasn’t a review.
It was a forced confession.
I stood up.
“I’m sorry, but I won’t answer leading questions.”
The conference room door was suddenly pushed open.
A familiar yet unfamiliar fir scent wafted in.
Shen Yanci walked in, followed by two lawyers.
Han Che’s expression changed.
“Mr. Shen?”
I looked at Shen Yanci.
“What are you doing here?”
He didn’t look at me.
He placed a document on the table.
“The review of the Yunqi Project will be taken over by our side.”
Han Che frowned.
“You’re only the newly appointed board advisor. There’s no need for you to interfere with an internal inquiry.”
Shen Yanci raised his eyes.
“Who told you I’m just an advisor?”
He took off his glasses.
In that moment, I suddenly noticed the very faint mole at the corner of his eye.
Lu Zhiheng had one too.
Only before, he always wore silver-rimmed glasses, and I had never looked closely.
Shen Yanci looked at me.
“Song Zhi.”
“Allow me to reintroduce myself.”
His voice was very soft.
“I am Lu Zhiheng.”
