Summary
Ye Zhiwei is a contract-keeping disciple in the outer sect, drawn by lot and bound as dao companion to Gu Tingzhou, the Tianyan Peak chief sword cultivator—who carries a sect debt of eighteen thousand six hundred spirit stones.
The saying “once bound as dao companions, no returns accepted” turns out to be the sect’s way of packing old debts—training fees, image-maintenance charges, and so-called auxiliary duties—into the hands of disciples and their companions.
Armed with her ledger and stack after stack of old contracts, Ye Zhiwei exposes the false accounts where merit rewards were swallowed by the public treasury and shared debts conjured from nothing, and argues her case at the sect’s grand hearing.
It is a reckoning of gratitude, debt, and dignity—the story of a girl who refuses to be treated as cargo, and balances the books for everyone.
