Summary
My husband returned from the palace with a young woman in tow. As it happened, I had just returned from visiting my family, and I had brought back a young man of my own. “Husband, he is frail and quite unable to look after himself,” I said, speaking up before he could say a word, my tone full of gentle concern. The young woman behind him had just managed to squeeze out a few tears, but now they sat awkwardly on her face, forgotten. My husband’s cold gaze swept past my shoulder to land on the youth behind me. He let out a dry laugh. “My dear, you certainly have a sense of humor.”
