Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“I am being backed into a corner by this invisible choice,” I whispered to myself, my heart churning with a cocktail of complex emotions. Lu Jingchuan’s sneer seemed to echo in my ears, pressing down on me with a heavy sense of oppression. The worry and unease in the eyes of the friends and family around me were like invisible shackles, binding me tight.
“We have to find a new breakthrough.” Cheng Xubai’s voice broke through my thoughts. He leaned close to my ear, his tone laced with tension and resolve. He didn’t choose silence in this moment; instead, he gripped my hand firmly, giving me an unexpected sense of support.
“I understand, but I’m worried about the credit issues,” I replied in a low voice, my mind in a frantic state. Lu Jingchuan’s threats filled me with a deep dread regarding the consequences of my choice. “If I give up on my feelings now, can I really save my career?”
“Emotions and careers can be rebuilt, but the priority right now is to crush Lu Jingchuan’s control.” A fire of determination flickered in his eyes. “We still have time. We must use our final trump card immediately.”
Just then, Lu Jingchuan approached from the crowd, his gaze as gloomy as a rainstorm, like a predator closing in on its prey. “What are you two whispering about? Plotting some conspiracy to make sure I can’t recover?” His voice was like a blade, leaving me nowhere to hide.
I took a deep breath and faced him, my voice tinged with mockery. “We were discussing how to end this farce of yours, rather than letting you continue to control this wedding.”
Lu Jingchuan moved forward in a rage, but Cheng Xubai stepped in front of me just in time, facing him calmly. “We won’t let you continue to exert pressure here.” His stubborn stance gave me a sliver of peace; it felt as if, in that instant, all my fear had transformed into strength.
“You’re wasting your time.” Lu Jingchuan gave a cold laugh. He turned and waved his hand, signaling the gathered friends and family to pay attention to his “important speech.” “Today’s wedding is not a game you can just sabotage.”
My heart tightened as my emotions surged. I knew I had to seize the initiative now; I couldn’t let the situation deteriorate any further. “I swear, I will make sure everyone sees the truth,” I said, struggling to keep my voice steady. “And all your pretenses and lies will be exposed right here!”
“How bold.” Lu Jingchuan looked at me with cold eyes, his tone full of contempt. “Do you really think you can turn the tables with nothing but baseless accusations?”
“I have evidence!” I suddenly shouted the decision, and the surrounding area fell into instant silence. My heart hammered against my ribs, but I knew I couldn’t back down now. Lu Jingchuan’s expression turned hideous, but I felt my voice growing clearer. “I will expose all your crimes and the truth behind them. I’ll let everyone know the conspiracy you’ve been running.”
“Evidence?” Lu Jingchuan mocked, his eyes burning with fury. “What makes you think you can make me submit? Why don’t you show everyone this so-called evidence?”
“I will prove that I am not your pawn.” My voice was firm as I began to map out a complete plan in my head. At that moment, I turned on my phone’s recording function, heightening the tension in the room. I was incredibly nervous, but I knew this was my chance to strike back.
“If you push me any further, I will reveal the secret between you and Lin Qingyue to everyone!” I provoked him without backing down, hoping the words would shake his resolve. I hoped to gain some small advantage from this grim confrontation.
“You wouldn’t dare!” Lu Jingchuan’s fury became even more apparent; he seemed genuinely threatened. He was so close I could almost smell the fragrance on my own skin, yet he was driven into a frenzy by his rage. “What are you all doing? Are you going to turn this into a public joke?”
“I’m not joking. I’m going to let everyone see your true face.” I looked Lu Jingchuan straight in the eye. My heart was thundering, yet my soul was filled with a fearless courage. “To me, this wedding today is nothing but a fiction you’ve woven on a stage, and I am the only one who can tear away the veil.”
He froze for a moment. Seizing the opportunity, I continued, “All the public opinion, all the slander-I will make it all blow back on you. You will be the true loser of this farce.”
Cheng Xubai acted quickly, casting the key information onto the large screen, instantly drawing everyone’s gaze. In that moment, the tension and panic in my heart shifted into a glimmer of hope. It felt as though I could see the path to a real counterattack.
Lu Jingchuan suppressed his rage, his face contorted. “You really think this is enough to threaten me? My network of connections is far deeper than you can imagine.”
“Perhaps. But standing here now, I will absolutely not let you continue to toy with my life.” I clenched my fists, realizing this moment was about to completely change the trajectory of my fate. I took a deep breath, steadying my emotions once more.
“Thinking of running?” Lu Jingchuan sneered, though he sounded helpless. Just as I was about to speak again, my phone vibrated with a new text message. My heart jolted. On the screen was a reminder from my father: “Stay calm. If you have evidence, speak up. Do not act rashly until you are certain.”
“See? Even your father is reminding you not to make any more mistakes.” Lu Jingchuan took the chance to sow discord, trying to shake my resolve.
“What he’s reminding me is that when faced with pressure, I can always find a way out,” I responded without hesitation, the strength brewing within me growing stronger. “It is precisely because of this that I can make this wedding my stage, rather than a performance for you to dance to.”
Silence fell over the room. It seemed as if everyone had held their breath in that instant, waiting for my next move. Lu Jingchuan’s expression grew even darker, an uneasy light flickering in his eyes. I was gradually taking control of the situation, and the next step would be the pivotal choice of my life.
“Fine then. What exactly do you want to expose?” He finally threw down the gauntlet.
I smiled slightly, silently reciting everything I intended to do. No matter the outcome, I had chosen not to retreat. I would lay out all the evidence I had prepared, bring the truth to the table, and let everyone witness the courage of a woman who would no longer remain silent.
“At the final moment of this deal, I will fight for myself.” My gaze was steady as I looked at him, sensing that the coming duel was the perfect opportunity to strike him down from his high horse.
