Waterbound Love - Chapter 53
The coffee had gone cold. Du Bai glanced at her watch-it was about time. She carefully pulled out a piece of paper and a pen from her backpack, scribbling down a sentence. She placed it under the untouched, now-cooled Mamba coffee. Leaving the money on the table, she walked out without looking back, disappearing around the corner. A pair of hands, pale and delicate with distinct joints, picked up the note. Upon reading the firm and powerful words, a pang shot through her heart.
I will try not to like you, just as hard as I tried to like her.
The cold Mamba coffee no longer had its savory zing, teasing the taste buds with a hint of bitterness, yet it could never compare to the bitterness flooding her heart.
Du Bai lined up for ticket inspection. Everything proceeded smoothly, albeit slowly. Each step took her deeper into the abyss of departure, like being stuck in a swamp, where struggling or not, the outcome was the same.
Du Bai never looked back when she left, knowing well that no one would be there to see her off, walking away nonchalantly. But this time, as she was about to step into the aircraft cabin, she instinctively turned her head, only to let out a wry smile-she could not find that once-familiar figure. Shaking her head, she walked in. As darkness engulfed her figure, Shen Yan emerged from behind a pillar, struggling to stand. She leaned heavily on the pillar, seemingly using up all her strength, eyes fixed on the direction where Du Bai had disappeared, tears misting in her eyes.
This fool, she really watched too many dramas, to personally enact such a tragic scene. Pity flickered through her bright, peach-blossom eyes.
“Miss, would you like to go back?” the staff member asked the customer near the door, neither servile nor overbearing.
Du Bai withdrew her gaze, tucking all her emotions back into her eyes, and turned towards the light.
Since you don’t wish to keep me, I will not return. I don’t know all the reasons, but I have my pride. I will only move forward, leaving behind everything from the past, including you. As you wish. Let that last glance be a gentle memory to reflect on in many years to come. At least she has feelings.
The sunlight spread its final warmth over Du Bai. She greedily soaked it in.
Maybe, this time, I can find the continuation I’ve been seeking.
Maybe, upon my return, all that awaits us is oblivion.
Maybe, we cannot escape the ending fate has already written.
But then, who knows? Isn’t this journey into the unknown exactly what I’m pursuing?
In May, life still revives. Let me find the primal drive of life.
