Vows in Vain, Ten Years, One Betrayal - Chapter 12
Zhou Xuyan turned around and went downstairs, driving straight to the airport.
There weren’t many places she could go.
Aside from her hometown, a small city hundreds of miles away, there was only the city where her college best friend had married and moved to.
Zhou Xuyan tried to calm himself down.
He prided himself on always being discreet.
The friends around him, those he had warned, wouldn’t dare to speak recklessly in front of her.
Tao Yuan certainly wouldn’t.
So, maybe she had just overheard some rumors by chance.
Maybe it was simply because he had been coming home late too often recently.
He had spent too little time with her and had broken his promises a few times.
She might be upset and trying to teach him a lesson.
Things weren’t the same as before.
They were husband and wife now, their interests tightly bound together.
Her health wasn’t good, and she had been recuperating at home.
Without him, she would be like a bird released from its gilded cage, unable to survive for long.
Zhou Xuyan comforted himself with these thoughts.
But it seemed to do little to ease his anxiety.
The entire drive, his heart pounded erratically.
His chest felt like it was boiling, his whole heart tormented as if it were being roasted over an open flame.
At a red light, he dialed her number again.
Still, no one answered.
As he neared the airport, Lin Yue called.
“Madam left the club around four in the afternoon.”
“But all the surveillance footage on that street has been blocked, so we can’t trace her movements.”
“We’ve also checked the airport and the high-speed rail stations-there’s no record of Madam traveling.”
“Mr. Zhou, perhaps Madam is still in Jing City?”
Zhou Xuyan gripped the steering wheel and let out a sudden sigh of relief. “Keep looking. No matter what, find her for me.”
“And what about her phone’s location? Have you tracked it?”
“We can’t. It seems Madam’s phone location has been deliberately blocked or interfered with.”
A buzzing noise exploded in Zhou Xuyan’s mind, leaving it blank.
Lin Yue said something else, but he couldn’t hear a word of it.
All he could think of was what she had said that day when she asked him for money.
She had said she had prepared a gift for him, and it was waiting in the reception office at their alma mater.
According to their agreement, he was supposed to pick it up three days later-tomorrow.
But he couldn’t wait another second.
