Vows in Vain, Ten Years, One Betrayal - Chapter 1
I held my coat, the bag in my hand filled with liver-protection tablets.
The corridor was long, the light from the lamps spilling across the oil paintings, refracting into a riot of colors.
And falling, scattered, all over the floor.
From the room at the end, bursts of laughter rose higher and higher.
This entire floor had been reserved by Zhou Xuyan for years.
No outsiders were allowed to come near, not even half a step, so they didn’t even bother closing the door.
My heel caught in the thick pile of the carpet, and as I bent down,
the necklace around my neck suddenly snapped.
Pearls, big and small, rolled across the floor.
A sudden, inexplicable pain pricked at my heart.
Just as I was about to squat down and pick up the pearls,
I heard Zhou Xuyan’s voice.
“Don’t be like that, I’m not as promiscuous as you all.”
“My first love, my white moonlight, the love of my life-there’s only my wife.”
He was probably drunk, his voice tinged with intoxication, swelling with pride and satisfaction.
I couldn’t help but press my lips together, holding the cool pearls, my heart smoothing out as if gently pressed.
“It’s just a pity.”
Zhou Xuyan suddenly let out a sigh: “Only after marrying her did I realize-she’s nothing special after all.”
Abruptly, I clenched my palm tight.
The pearls pressed painfully into my soft flesh, the smile at the corner of my lips froze.
“What about me, Zhou Xuyan!”
A sweet, soft woman’s voice suddenly rang out.
With a touch of unwilling grievance and resentment: “You say your wife is the love of your life, then what am I to you?”
“Just last night you said you loved me the most!”
The men all burst out laughing: “Silly girl, you actually believe what men say in bed?”
“Besides, isn’t it only right for a man to love his own wife?”
“You’re the mistress, why are you fighting for affection?”
“Zhou Xuyan! Look at them!” The girl’s voice had a sob in it.
It sounded so pitiful, enough to make anyone’s heart ache.
