Summary
The noodle shop I’d ordered delivery from more than three hundred times was closing down.
The owner’s son had developed a strange illness. He was terrified of tomatoes.
Once they’d used up their remaining ingredients, they were taking him to a big city for treatment.
To say goodbye to an old favorite, I went there to eat in person for the very first time.
The landlord happened to be there too. Acting as if we were old friends, he started complaining to me.
“What strange illness? I want eight hundred yuan more in rent. They’re too cheap to pay, so they’re using the kid as an excuse!”
“Really?”
I hadn’t touched my noodles. After leaving the shop, I found a trash can and called 110 between bouts of vomiting.
“I’d like to report a crime! There may have been…ugh…a murder at Wang’s Noodle Shop!”
