To Forgive or Not to Forgive - Chapter 18
Because Chen Jianjin’s hand had been slashed, he couldn’t lift heavy objects or exert himself too much.
Mother Chen repeatedly begged me to go see him, but I refused every time.
It was spring, and I was preparing to move.
I saw Chen Jianjin downstairs in the neighborhood. He was just standing there, his back looking so lonely, none of the former confidence and energy.
His head hung low, and he looked rather pitiful.
But I couldn’t muster any sympathy for him.
He rushed up to me like a little dog wagging its tail:
“Shuyi…
“Zhou Sining and her father have both gone to prison.”
I had already learned some time ago that Zhou Sining had incited her father to take revenge on me.
If Chen Jianjin hadn’t shown up in time, with my strength, it would have been hard to fight back against an adult man.
But if it hadn’t been for Chen Jianjin, none of this would have happened to me in the first place.
I nodded to show I understood.
After a long while, he gave a bitter smile:
“It’s been so long since I saw your Moments.”
I touched my phone:
“Mm.
“I blocked you.
“The day I broke up with you, that night, you went to see Zhou Sining. I couldn’t sleep.”
His smile froze.
“Actually, I saw every single one of your Moments.
“You said you wanted to raise a succulent, so I asked Assistant Li to buy one for you.
“I’ll have her call you back later.”
“I really did get obsessed with Zhou Sining for a while, because of my older brother’s passing and my family situation. It made me confused about my own feelings, but I know now, what I felt for her was just family affection.
“When I found out she was in a relationship, I just thought she’d met the right person.
“But when I think of you being with someone else in the future, it hurts so much I can hardly breathe.”
His hands hung limply by his thighs.
“That day, it was because her father hit her, she begged me in tears, that’s why I went.”
He spoke cautiously, testing the waters, his voice sour and ugly. The look in his eyes was shattered, tears welling up inside:
“Wen Shuyi, I love you.”
I gave a cold laugh:
“This is the first time I’ve seen you cry for me.”
When I was moving, I saw his tall figure at the airport.
On the other side of the city, I deleted his and his family’s contact information.
Even though Mother Chen had always been kind to me.
At the seaside, I caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. I knew who it was.
Later, he messaged me:
[Moments, can you let me see them?]
I used to want to share everything with him.
Now, what’s missed is missed.
The person I once liked so much, turns out, is just so-so.
