Chapter 13
I returned home.
Thinking about how to confess the reason to my mother.
I came from a single-parent family; my father passed away early.
My mother used to worry that I would be ill-treated in my future marriage.
She was always afraid that others would bully me because I didn’t have a father to support me.
The first time I brought Zhou Boyu home to meet her,
He kept serving me food and pouring water, meticulously picking out every piece of scallion from my dishes.
That day, my mother’s eyes turned red.
She patted the back of my hand, praising me for choosing well, for finding such a good boy.
And now, how was I supposed to tell her that I had chosen wrong?
I was still rehearsing my lines when my mother spoke first:
“Before you came back, Boyu already called me about this.”
“The internet is so developed now, anything is possible.”
“Similar backs and similar experiences are not uncommon.”
“For you to break up over this is a bit unreasonable.”
“I think that child Boyu couldn’t possibly do such a thing.”
I sneered inwardly.
No wonder he hadn’t tried hard to stop me.
It turned out he was counting on me not having sufficient evidence.
He planned to use my mother to persuade me, slowly eroding my resolve to break up.
My mother added:
“His mother also called me.”
“She said she’s inviting us to their house for dinner tomorrow.”
Just as I was about to say something,
A Xiaohongshu notification suddenly popped up on my phone screen.
I lowered my gaze, clicked to view it.
When I looked up again, I said, “Okay, then let’s have dinner together tomorrow.”
Since Zhou Boyu so badly wanted glaring evidence to embarrass everyone,
Fine, I just happen to have it.
