The Wedding Crasher - Chapter 3
There was still no movement on the house transfer.
Looked like Cheng Yu was ready to drag this out with me to the bitter end.
You win some, you lose some. I fell out with Cheng Yu, and the wedding leave got canceled.
This month the company was doing competitive promotions. I buried myself in work, and somehow ended up taking first place in performance.
I even got a promotion and a raise out of it.
My coworkers joked that I’d lost in love but won in the office.
That night they insisted I treat everyone.
We broke up around 9:30. I walked out of the KTV and ran into Tang Shiyu.
She was in a little black spaghetti-strap dress, makeup immaculate. She’d just said goodbye to her friends, then ran over and blocked my way. “Sis, let’s talk.”
“You and I have nothing to talk about.”
Tang Shiyu ignored whatever I said, took out her phone, and called Cheng Yu right in front of me. “Honey, you don’t have to come pick me up. I’ll go back on my own.”
Then she hung up, wearing this ridiculous look like, See? He’s crazy about me, what can you do about it.
It was on my way anyway. I walked ahead with my bag, and she followed behind, yapping non-stop.
“Cheng Yu and I used to date. Technically you’re the homewrecker.”
I suddenly stopped and turned, staring straight at her.
I genuinely had no idea how much water her brain was holding.
Seeing my reaction, Tang Shiyu doubled down.
“Yeah, sure, snatching someone’s fiancé isn’t exactly glorious. But what can I do? I’m just awful, I like Cheng Yu, I’m not going to give him up. If it were you, would you?”
Why on earth would I put myself in a pile of crap’s shoes?
“If you two were so great together, why’d you break up?”
“My mom wouldn’t allow it. I’d just gotten into grad school-I had to focus on my studies. The Cheng Family is a scholarly family. If I’d been willing to marry him, you think you’d ever have had a chance? Uncle Cheng and Aunt Cheng would definitely like me better.”
I kept staring at her without saying a word.
“And now that you’re together, why hasn’t he married you yet?”
That made her falter, like I’d poked the one place that hurt. Her face went blank as she stuck out her ring finger.
“He already proposed to me, okay? That very night. He promised he’d call off the engagement with you.”
I almost laughed when I saw the “diamond ring” where you’d need a magnifying glass to find the diamond.
Cheng Yu is just an ordinary office worker, barely making a little over ten thousand a month. After living expenses and utilities, he’s not exactly rolling in cash.
When we were going to get married, it was the Cheng Family who paid for everything-gold jewelry, diamond ring, all of it.
Even though I’ve already returned it all now.
But back then, that diamond ring was bright enough to blind people.
I smiled.
“Sweetheart, right now the two of us are still on the same property deed. As long as he doesn’t marry you, you don’t have a marital home. I should be thanking your husband for using his own money to buy me a house-otherwise I’d be stuck with a mortgage. Every day he delays canceling, I save another day of interest.”
“Oh, you sound so proud. Beggar.”
Tang Shiyu put on a face like she didn’t care at all, as if I was the one pathetically clinging on.
But from her complexion, I could tell she was furious.
Which meant my goal was met.
If Cheng Yu wanted to cling to the house, then I’d just let Tang Shiyu go home and make a scene.
The more she made a fuss, the less Cheng Yu would be able to endure it. Sooner or later, he’d come running to wrap things up with me.
