The Villain Is a Chatterbox, and I'm Mute - chapter 4
Soon, it was time for winter break.
Qin Xu stuffed a big bag of medicine into my hands.
“Remember to take your medicine on time even at home, okay?”
“And remember to call me.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
He rubbed my head and praised, “Good girl.”
I watched Qin Xu get into a Bentley before I slowly dragged my suitcase home.
Near the door, I put the medicine he gave me at the very bottom of my backpack and pressed it down with books.
After making sure everything was secure, I got ready to knock on the door.
Qi Chen suddenly appeared.
“You’ll get found out,” he pointed at my backpack.
I pursed my lips and stammered, “I’ll be careful, I won’t.”
Qi Chen didn’t leave, repeating, “You’ll get found out.”
He was actually right.
“Let me keep it for you. When you need to take your medicine, just knock on my door, okay?”
This was the first time Qi Chen had helped me like this.
I wanted to refuse, but if I did, the medicine would definitely be discovered, maybe even thrown away.
Qin Xu bought it for me…
I lowered my head and handed the medicine to Qi Chen. “Thank you.”
Qi Chen chuckled softly and was about to speak when the door suddenly opened from inside.
Shen Dabao poked his head out. “Qi Chen, do you need something from the mute?”
My family still didn’t know that I could speak.
I shook my head at Qi Chen.
He was stunned for a moment, then smiled at Shen Dabao and hid the medicine behind his back.
“Nothing, are you on winter break now?”
“Yeah.”
While the two chatted, I slipped through the door into the house.
As always, the innermost bedroom reeked of alcohol, and a woman in an apron was busy in the kitchen.
“Dabao, Mom bought you chicken drumsticks, come eat.”
“Okay.”
Shen Dabao replied, then closed the door and snatched my backpack.
“Let me see what good stuff you have.”
He dumped everything out of my backpack.
He didn’t spare my suitcase either.
In the end, he took my new notebook and marker pens.
He shouted loudly as he walked toward the kitchen, “Mom, the mute has money to buy new stationery!”
The woman was stunned, turned her head and saw me. “Qingqing, when did you get back?”
I signed, [Just now.]
“Mom! Why does the mute have money?”
Shen Dabao repeated the question, emphasizing his tone.
“What mute? That’s your sister. Your sister is in her senior year of high school, isn’t it normal for her to have some pocket money?”
Not getting the answer he wanted, Shen Dabao stubbornly ran to the innermost bedroom.
“Dad! The mute has money!”
Inside came the curses and impatient grumbling of a man woken from drunken sleep.
Shen Dabao glared at me resentfully, and even at dinner, he refused to let it go.
