The Streamer's Allure: Top Fans Vying for Her Affection - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
After turning off the livestream, Jiang Zhouzhou lay on her bed and let her mind go blank.
After two consecutive days of streaming, she was gradually starting to like the cheerful atmosphere of the chat room.
In reality, she wasn’t much of a talker, nor was she particularly cheerful.
Due to the influence of her upbringing, she was naturally a bit insecure and didn’t like interacting with others.
Back in school, her classmates used to call her the “aloof campus belle” behind her back, saying she thought she was too good for them. In truth, she simply didn’t know how to handle interpersonal relationships and could only resort to silence as an escape.
Throughout her four years of university, her only close friends were her three roommates.
Livestreaming allowed her to avoid the awkwardness of face-to-face contact while also helping her practice her social skills.
However, she knew she couldn’t be a female streamer forever.
“Once I’ve saved up enough money, I can do the things I actually want to do.”
She wanted to open a flower shop, a cat cafe, or perhaps a coffee house…
She dreamed of a quiet environment where she could enjoy peaceful, harmonious times-free from incessant bickering, harsh verbal abuse, and biting sarcasm.
Perhaps because the dream was so beautiful, Jiang Zhouzhou slept very soundly that night.
When she woke up the next day, the sun was shining brightly.
After a quick wash, Jiang Zhouzhou headed out.
Real estate in Haishi was incredibly expensive. To save on rent, she lived in an old neighborhood in the historic district. Fortunately, the transportation was very convenient; she could take Metro Line 1 directly to the underground mall in the commercial district.
This area had a wide variety of daily necessities, so she was used to shopping here.
Inside the mall, the shelves were packed with an array of goods and teeming with shoppers. After picking out what she needed, Jiang Zhouzhou pushed her shopping cart toward the pet supplies section.
When she left her apartment that morning, she had spotted a stray white cat downstairs, so she planned to buy a bag of cat food.
However, the brand she wanted was placed quite high, right on the top shelf.
Jiang Zhouzhou was 167 centimeters tall. She stood on her tiptoes, barely reaching the bag.
But just as she was about to pull it down, she suddenly lost her balance, and her body tilted backward.
The fall she expected never happened. Jiang Zhouzhou’s back bumped into a man, and a pair of hands instinctively supported her waist, steadying her.
“Uh… thank you…”
Jiang Zhouzhou quickly turned around to thank the man behind her.
The first thing that caught her eye was the man’s chin. He was very tall, nearly a head taller than Jiang Zhouzhou. He carried an exceptionally powerful aura, making the surrounding space feel almost like his personal territory.
Jiang Zhouzhou felt like an intruder who had wandered into someone else’s domain. Her presence was instantly overwhelmed, leaving her afraid to even lift her head to look him in the face.
“Do you want this bag of cat food?”
The man’s indifferent voice drifted down from above her head.
Jiang Zhouzhou finally looked up and saw that the man had already pulled the cat food down for her.
“Yes, that’s the one.”
Her voice was so low it was barely audible, and her face flushed slightly.
This was because the man before her had an incredibly striking face. His skin was very pale, but unlike Jiang Zhouzhou’s rosy-white complexion, he had a rare, cool-toned porcelain skin.
Unlike the rugged features of most men, the lines of his face were smooth and soft, appearing non-threatening at first glance. However, his upturned fox-like eyes gave him a hint of shrewdness and wildness.
Jiang Zhouzhou had to admit, this was the first time she had ever seen such a handsome man.
Seeing the man help her take the cat food down, Jiang Zhouzhou was just about to open her mouth to thank him when he put it right back where it had been.
“This brand of cat food isn’t very good. You should pick a different one.”
At his words, Jiang Zhouzhou’s face flushed even deeper. She explained, “I’ve never bought cat food before. I only picked this one because I remembered seeing the brand name while scrolling online…”
The man arched an eyebrow, then leaned over to pick up a different brand and placed it into Jiang Zhouzhou’s shopping cart.
“This brand has good quality control.”
Jiang Zhouzhou bit her lip and whispered, “Th-thank you…”
“Planning on getting a cat?” the man suddenly asked.
Jiang Zhouzhou was a bit dazed. “Huh?”
Once she realized what he’d said, she shook her head hurriedly. “No, I’m not. It’s just that when I went out today, I saw a stray white cat downstairs in my complex. It seemed like it was being bullied by the others and looked quite pitiful, so I thought I’d buy a bag of food…”
Her voice grew smaller and smaller as she spoke, and she suddenly felt a prickle of annoyance with herself.
Why was she answering so obediently just because this man asked?
Furthermore, in their conversation, the man was clearly the one in control, while she was the passive party.
A soft chuckle sounded from above her head.
Jiang Zhouzhou looked up, her eyes silently asking what he was laughing at.
The man met her gaze candidly. He suddenly pulled out his phone and said to her, “Want to exchange contact info? I have a cat. If you have any questions about them, you can ask me anytime.”
Jiang Zhouzhou hesitated for a moment before taking out her own phone to scan the man’s WeChat QR code.
After all, she didn’t know any friends who kept cats. If she really ran into any problems, the man in front of her might actually be of some use.
“Gu Nanfeng,” he said, introducing himself as he clicked to accept the friend request.
Hearing the name “Nanfeng,” Jiang Zhouzhou instinctively thought of the Nanfeng from her livestream room.
She hadn’t expected someone to actually have that as a real name.
Jiang Zhouzhou said, “Jiang Zhouzhou. ‘Zhou’ as in rice porridge.”
Gu Nanfeng replied, “Yes, I know.”
His voice remained indifferent, yet it carried a hint of something provocative. This was especially true of his narrow, upturned fox-like eyes, which looked as though they were fixed on prey whenever he watched someone.
Jiang Zhouzhou struggled with social anxiety and didn’t dare stay with him any longer. She forced herself to say, “I’ve finished my shopping, so I’ll… head back now.”
She gripped the handle of the shopping cart with both hands, her knuckles white.
Gu Nanfeng smiled. “Alright.”
To Jiang Zhouzhou, hearing that word was like receiving a royal pardon. She immediately lowered her head and pushed her cart away at a brisk pace.
Once her figure had completely vanished from sight, Gu Nanfeng’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Even more interesting than in the livestream room.”
And more innocent-so easy to tease!
However…
Gu Nanfeng recalled the moment his hands had supported her waist.
It was so thin, a slender curve that could be held in a single hand.
She looked even more fragile than she did in the livestream, as if a gust of wind could knock her over.
In particular, those eyes of hers held a strange sense of brokenness deep within. That was why she didn’t dare meet anyone’s gaze; she was instinctively afraid that others would see the internal trauma clearly through her eyes.
After meeting her just once, Gu Nanfeng had seen right through Jiang Zhouzhou’s disguise.
He was like an apex predator at the top of the food chain, and Jiang Zhouzhou was the prey he had locked onto.
