The Path of Revenge After Rebirth - Chapter 17
Of course, I knew.
The teacher from the special admissions office, the one Lu Xinting had invited, was sitting in the audience at this very moment.
In my past life, after hearing Lin Jiu play “Moonlight Sonata,” he contacted her at the end of the recital. He asked if she would accept the single spot offered through special admission.
Lin Jiu accepted.
It was only the first step toward her brilliant future.
Later, through Lu Xinting’s meticulous arrangements, she was accepted as the final disciple of a legendary master in the music world.
For an acting role, I had to portray a piano prodigy with autism. My agent arranged for me to study with that same master.
I had only briefly crossed paths with Lin Jiu there.
But when I returned home that evening, Lu Xinting was blocking the door.
He stared at me in disgust. “Lu Xinxi, will you ever give it a rest?”
“Just because you can’t compare to Lin Jiu, you have to hate her this much? So much that you’d tear up the sheet music she copied for our teacher by hand?”
“You’re truly wicked.”
I was stunned for a few seconds. When I came to my senses, I instinctively tried to defend myself, but he cut me off with a wave of his hand.
“A pack of lies.”
“I won’t believe a single word of your excuses.”
…
Amidst the uproar from the audience, I heard someone scream.
“Blood! Look, her dress is covered in blood!”
The blood-and-dust-stained hem of my dress, my disheveled hair, my badly swollen ankle-every detail about my appearance screamed the truth of my words.
Leaning on the piano bench, Lin Jiu staggered to her feet.
A bone-deep malice swirled in her eyes. The hatred churned for a moment before she masked it, reverting to her usual gentle, innocent facade.
“Lu Xinxi, I don’t know what you’re talking about. There must be some misunderstanding.”
“But this is my performance. Out of respect for the audience, you shouldn’t have been so reckless as to rush onto the stage.”
Enraged, Lu Xinting shot up from his seat. “Lu Xinxi, have you lost your mind?!” he bellowed.
I paid him no mind, brushed Lin Jiu aside, and sat down at the piano.
I began to play Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5”.
In my past life, I had practiced this piece diligently for three months so I could play it myself in the movie, without a hand double.
I was no virtuoso, but it was more than enough for the moment.
The powerful notes of the piano, underscored by the faint hum of the speakers, echoed through the vast, domed auditorium.
When I finished the piece, I turned to face her, my voice ringing with conviction.
“You ruined my birthday party, you turned my brother against me, you spread rumors about me to my family and friends-those are petty things. I’ll pay you back for them in my own way.”
“But you had Jiang Tian push me down the stairs, trying to break my leg, just to keep me off this stage-”
I paused, staring at her suddenly pale face, and sneered.
“The piano is what you’re most proud of. Don’t you even have the confidence to face me on the same stage and win?”
