Chapter 21
Lu Tong slapped the divorce papers onto the coffee table as Zhao Cai chased its tail on the balcony.
It seemed less chubby than before, moving with much more agility.
The dark screen of the television reflected Lu Tong’s face, covered in a mask.
Her hand didn’t pause as she massaged her calf with a fascia gun.
“What did you say? What do you mean?”
I heard the sound squeezed out of my throat.
Another month had passed.
For the first time, Lu Tong called me to come home, and I thought she was finally willing to compromise.
“Literal meaning.”
Lu Tong tore off the mask, revealing a face so white it seemed to glow.
In the past month, she had changed her hair color three times, and the long black hair that used to reach her waist had already been cut short.
Dangling from her earlobes were diamond studs I had never seen before.
My phone vibrated in my pocket; it was a selfie from Jiang Yu.
I glanced at it briefly–it was the bunny girl outfit she mentioned buying a few days ago.
But now, I couldn’t care less.
I turned off the screen.
Suddenly, I noticed the scent on the coffee table had changed.
I loosened my tie.
“Is it just because I took Jiang Yu to the hot springs last week and didn’t answer your call?”
Last week, while Jiang Yu and I were exercising, Lu Tong called me several times.
I didn’t pick up.
Somehow, my phone had been set to silent.
By the time I saw it and called back, the line wouldn’t connect.
When I asked her about it later, she said it was nothing.
“It has nothing to do with that.”
Lu Tong interrupted me, standing up from the yoga mat.
The silk robe slid over her knees, and I noticed a new tattoo around her ankle.
Lu Tong tossed the fascia gun onto the sofa and said coldly, “Zhou Heran, you set the rules of the game, but I have the right to quit anytime.”
