The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 70
Chapter 70
The night was pitch-black.
The man’s figure blurred into the darkness.
The girl on the bed slept deeply, never waking once.
Jin Beizhou picked up her phone. He forced down the emotions churning endlessly in his narrow eyes and opened it with apparent calm.
He entered a password.
Lu Ying’s birthday, his birthday, their wedding anniversary…
Jin Beizhou had tried all of them last time, and every one had been wrong. In the end, he had used facial recognition while Lu Ying was off guard.
He knew none would work, yet he tried them all again.
The phone was about to lock.
Jin Beizhou closed his eyes and steadied his breathing. Tentatively, he entered the date of her scheduled abortion.
He hoped it would be wrong.
This was their baby. She could direct all her resentment and hatred at him. How could she do something so cruel without his knowledge?
The phone unlocked. The instant the home screen appeared, Jin Beizhou’s heart stopped.
In the silent night, he bent over in pain. “Lu Yingying.”
No one answered him.
Jin Beizhou wanted to shake her awake and demand an explanation. He wanted to curse her viciously for being so willful. He wanted her to apologize through tears and admit she had been wrong to consider such a thing.
This was their baby.
Yet when his fingertips touched her cheek, Jin Beizhou only pinched it softly. He couldn’t bear to use the slightest force. In a breathless murmur, he said, “Our Princess Lu is going to be a mother.”
He was going to be a father.
–
The next day, in the Jin Family’s dining room, a servant carried in a package and said respectfully, “Third Miss Jin, you have a delivery.”
“What is it?” Jin Meimei asked casually. “Just put it down for now.”
Jin Da lowered his newspaper. “Let’s eat.”
Xi Suling happened to glance over. “Oh, what’s inside? The box is wet.”
At her words, everyone looked toward it.
The servant ran a palm across the bottom. Something sticky clung to her fingertips, and a bloody smell rose into the air.
The next second, the servant recoiled in terror and dropped the box onto the floor.
A dismembered wooden doll spilled out in a clatter.
It appeared to have been soaked in blood. Drops of ghastly red stained the white princess dress around its torso, creating a horrifying sight.
Jin Meimei stared wide-eyed and covered her mouth.
Jin Da flew into a rage. “Who sent this?”
“The S-Second Young Master…” the servant stammered. “The Second Young Master’s people said the S-Second Sister-in-law is pregnant. From now on, whenever she appears somewhere, the T-Third Miss must leave on her own. O-Otherwise…”
Jin Meimei would end up like that doll.
Jin Beizhou had never intended to hide his involvement. His warning was clear and explicit.
“He’s rebelling!” Jin Da erupted. “The Jin Family raised him. No matter how capable he becomes, he is still a member of this family. Tell him to come home and apologize!”
Xi Suling had aged considerably in recent weeks. “This is all your fault! You hid the truth from me. Even if you wanted to use Xiao Er, you shouldn’t have driven him this far. Even a dog needs a little sweetness now and then…”
“Grandpa,” Jin Meimei said with red-rimmed eyes, “Grandma, let it go. I shouldn’t have argued with Second Sister-in-law. She’s pregnant…”
Jin Da snapped, “She’s known how to manipulate your Second Brother since childhood. Now she’s pregnant and thinks she’s untouchable!”
Then he ordered, “Prepare the car. Call Sinian. We’re going to Beijiang Villa!”
Jin Sinian arrived in a hurry, but he came to the Jin Family residence instead.
“I don’t think Xiao Er did anything wrong,” Jin Sinian said. “His wife is pregnant. Isn’t it normal for him to be anxious and protective?”
Jin Da snorted. “Look at this behavior! He actually sent a dismembered doll to threaten us…”
“Grandpa,” Jin Sinian said calmly, “don’t you know exactly how he behaves? Weren’t you the one who forced him to become this way?”
“…”
Jin Sinian continued, “I’ve spent the past several days examining Huangting’s accounts. If Xiao Er had been the obedient, rule-following type, he would have died without a body left to bury long ago!”
Xi Suling looked startled. “What do you mean?”
“Nothing.” Jin Sinian refused to explain. “Enough, Grandpa. Even if the Jin Family raised Xiao Er, he repaid that debt a long time ago!”
With that, Jin Sinian shifted his gaze to Jin Meimei, his expression unreadable. “From now on, he is no longer your Second Brother. He will not show you mercy. Grandpa and Grandma are getting older. In the end, I will be the one in charge of the Jin Family. Conduct yourself accordingly.”
Jin Meimei bit her lip and said nothing.
He was warning her to behave.
Jin Sinian had always kept his distance from her. He treated her with less warmth than he showed Lu Ying. His words were a warning not to provoke Jin Beizhou or Lu Ying.
As long as he was there, the old man and Old Madam could not protect her forever.
–
Jin Sinian stopped Jin Da from visiting Beijiang Villa, but the Luo Family, who had received an equally generous “gift,” came instead.
Lu Ying slept until she woke naturally.
Jin Beizhou sat at the edge of the bed, lifted her upright, and ignored her refusal as he helped her dress.
Auntie Zhang knocked on the door. “Mr. and Mrs. Luo… brought Miss Luo. They’re outside asking to see you.”
Jin Beizhou gave a two-word answer. “Let them wait.”
Annoyed, Lu Ying refused to cooperate. “I can dress myself!”
“Don’t make any big movements.” The man frowned. “Didn’t get enough fighting yesterday? I’ll fight you later.”
“…” Lu Ying raised her lashes. “Do you know what she said? She said she ordered the servant to kill the cat and deliberately threw away the bread. She said the bread was only something I made for practice! I wanted to tear her mouth apart!”
Jin Beizhou crouched, closed one hand around her ankle, and helped her put on a shoe. “Have you fallen in love with her? Why do you care so much about her?”
Lu Ying kicked straight at his face.
The man caught her foot in one hand.
Lu Ying enunciated, “I will never forget how wronged I felt back then. There is no possibility of us getting back together. Understand?”
Jin Beizhou lowered his lashes, concealed every emotion, and put on her other shoe.
“Mm.”
He understood.
It didn’t matter. She could resent him and hate him. As long as she stayed beside him with the baby, she could take all the revenge she wanted. Jin Beizhou would accept every bit of it.
She simply could not leave.
Lu Ying’s words grew increasingly cruel. “My ideal partner has both parents alive and comes from a harmonious family…”
Jin Beizhou remained unmoved. “Our baby will have both parents and a harmonious family.”
“…”
No matter what she said or did, Jin Beizhou seemed able to laugh it off, even when she deliberately attacked his deepest wounds.
Breakfast was lavish. Jin Beizhou picked up each dish for her to try. If Lu Ying didn’t even look at it, he had a servant remove it. If she took one bite and set it down, Jin Beizhou finished it himself.
A servant entered again and said carefully, “Mr. Luo and the others…” They were still waiting.
Jin Beizhou didn’t lift his eyes. “If they don’t want to wait, they can leave.”
“Yes.”
Lu Ying had little appetite. She pushed away the porridge he offered. “I want to go out.”
Jin Beizhou said, “I’ll have Dajun accompany you.”
“…” Lu Ying suppressed her temper. “I want Eldest Sister-in-law to come for lunch.”
“All right. I’ll invite her.”
“I’ll invite her myself.”
“That’s fine.” Jin Beizhou wiped a trace of moisture from the corner of her mouth with his fingertip. “Then shall I invite Yan Xia and Han Xi for you too?”
“…”
After a frozen moment, Lu Ying slowly looked at him. “What do you mean by that?”
Jin Beizhou replied mildly, “You’ve moved into a new home. Naturally, you should invite your friends over as guests.”
But Lu Ying heard the threat buried in his words.
Yan Xia and Han Xi had been the first people to learn of her pregnancy. They had helped her conceal it countless times.
There was also Papa Yan. When she had not wanted the baby, he had even helped her arrange an appointment with a colleague at a hospital outside the city.
Jin Beizhou probably knew all of it.
He was tolerant and generous toward her. That didn’t mean he would treat everyone else the same way.
Lu Ying stared at him. “If you dare do anything to the Yan Family, I’ll die right in front of you…”
Jin Beizhou covered her mouth at once, so calm that it was frightening. “The baby is listening. Don’t say things like that.”
