The Courtesan's Crown - Chapter 1
Tonight, Shen Huinian was more impatient and forceful than ever before.
He was naturally strong, and I could barely withstand him.
When it was finally over, I lay in his arms, breathing in small, open-mouthed gasps, only to hear him call my name hoarsely.
“Jiangwan.”
I looked up at him, meeting his cold, star-like eyes, while mine still held the allure and pleasure from our intimacy.
“I am to be wed. Tonight is the last time I will come to you.”
I only paused for a moment before putting on a heartbroken act: “Will the Third Young Master cut ties with me once he takes a wife? I can’t bear to part with you!”
My voice was dripping with a sweetness Shen Huinian detested.
Sure enough, his brow furrowed, and his words carried impatience: “Jiangwan, no need for this. Between us, one greedy for wealth, one fond of beauty, there was never much affection.”
“You knew from the start your status is unfit for the Shen residence. The family’s honor would not allow me to continue entanglement with a courtesan after marriage.”
“But remembering our years together, I will secure your freedom, give you a large sum of silver. Leave the capital and start a new life.”
Shen Huinian’s expression was cold, his words devoid of warmth. It was hard to imagine he had just tenderly called me “Wanwan” moments ago.
Men really are good at pretending.
I dropped the fragile, pitiful act and raised a dazzling smile. “Then Wanwan thanks the Third Young Master.”
Having stayed by Shen Huinian’s side for so many years, I knew his temperament well. He disliked clinginess. My initial goal in approaching him was to leave the Spring Breeze Pavilion. Since the goal was achieved, there was no need to act lovesick.
But why did my heart feel a little empty?
Seemingly surprised by my quick change, his expression briefly complicated.
I didn’t give him time to speak. My soft, moist red lips leaned in to cover his, my words mumbled: “As thanks, let Wanwan serve the Third Young Master once more.”
Without hesitation, his large hand encircled my waist, pressing me down beneath him.
I usually closed my eyes during intimacy, but this time I didn’t. My gaze was bright, taking him in again and again, until finally, Shen Huinian covered my eyes with his palm.
Enough. It was enough.
When the clouds and rain ceased, he dressed to leave the Spring Breeze Pavilion. I sat on the couch watching his retreating back and suddenly called out: “Third Young Master, goodbye.”
He paused but didn’t turn, just quickened his pace.
