Summary
I’m a dog yao—a dog spirit who can take human form.
One rainy day, I found a beautiful little cat.
He was soaking wet and hissing at me, all fierce.
I was afraid he would freeze to death, so I carried him home in my mouth.
I groomed his fur, warmed his paws, and even shared my favorite little blanket.
He gave me a disdainful look.
“Silly dog.”
My tail wagged. I couldn’t have been happier.
“You can talk!”
After that, he took over my bed every day. Ate my canned food. Wouldn’t even let me play with other dogs.
I thought all cats were like that.
Until the day he went into heat.
I had my toy ball in my mouth and was about to go play with the Samoyed next door when he suddenly pinned me in my bed.
His tail curled around my hind legs. His beautiful eyes shone.
“You’re not going.”
I wagged my tail, confused.
“Why?”
He bent down and caught my ear between his teeth, his voice soft and fierce at once.
“Because you brought me home.”
“When a dog brings a cat home, he has to take responsibility.”
