“Pick me up at the airport in an hour,” Li Juefeng’s icy voice came through the phone before abruptly hanging up.
Pick him up?
Had a week really passed so quickly? It felt like she had only been free for two or three days.
That arrogant man! She wasn’t his chauffeur!
He’d only been abroad for a week, and now he expected a grand welcome upon his return?
Fuming, Gu Xiaoai eventually drove a small, modest car from the Magazine Publisher to the airport.
At this point, falling out with Li Juefeng wouldn’t do her any good.
Li Juefeng stood by the roadside in a black trench coat. When he saw her shabby car, his brow furrowed, “Where did you get this junk car? I’ve been waiting for ten minutes.”
…
A reliable, humble car was reduced to “junk” in his eyes.
Gu Xiaoai leaned on the car door, eyeing his empty hands, and asked patiently, “Where’s your luggage?”
“I sent it back with the driver.” Frowning, Li Juefeng disdainfully opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat.
“You have a driver, yet you didn’t let him pick you up?!” Gu Xiaoai looked at him incredulously.
Was this man insane? He preferred to stand by the roadside, waiting for her to pick him up in a beat-up car?
“Giving you a chance to shine,” Li Juefeng said, as if bestowing a favor, his demeanor impossibly arrogant.
“What chance to shine?” Gu Xiaoai asked, puzzled, as she buckled her seatbelt and started the car, driving smoothly out of the airport.
Li Juefeng’s expression turned cold, his sharp gaze fixed on her, “What do you think?”
What was she supposed to say…
Gu Xiaoai looked genuinely confused and shook her head honestly, “What?”
Heartless woman.
Li Juefeng laughed instead of getting angry, “Very good.”
Very good?
What was good?
What was so good about it?
Of course, Gu Xiaoai wouldn’t voice these thoughts. The less said, the fewer mistakes made.
So, she remained silent, and Li Juefeng stopped talking as well, his anger simmering until his entire face darkened.
The car merged into the bustling streets, where “Qixi Festival” and “Valentine’s Day” advertisements were everywhere. Suddenly, Gu Xiaoai had a revelation. She glanced at the man beside her, who was on the verge of exploding, and casually asked, “Do you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day?”
With her?
He was twenty-six, not a naive sixteen-year-old.
Besides, she was just his mistress. Their relationship was a transaction, not a romance. Celebrating Valentine’s Day together? How ironic.
Or did he think that spending one Valentine’s Day together would make her fall in love with him?
