- Chapter 85 - A Lingering Kiss 2
“…” Wasn’t she obedient enough?
Gu Xiaoai forced a smile and tiptoed to plant a light kiss on his cheek.
Only then did Li Juefeng let her off with satisfaction.
Standing by the roadside, Gu Xiaoai watched him get into the car and drive away, feeling a sense of relief. Finally, she had a few days of freedom without the constant worry of his unreasonable summons.
“Miss Gu, I’ll take you back to C City,” the driver said respectfully, opening the car door.
Gu Xiaoai glanced at the time on her phone; it was the right time for a prison visit.
“Please take me to Qindao Men’s Prison first,” Gu Xiaoai replied with a polite smile.
The young driver was visibly taken aback, staring at her for a moment before he realized, “Alright, Miss Gu, please get in.”
Sitting in the luxurious car, Gu Xiaoai tied her long hair into a ponytail, resembling a college student. In the nine years since leaving her hometown, she had only visited her imprisoned dad once a year.
It wasn’t that she was unfilial; she simply didn’t know how to face her dad’s questions anymore.
If her dad knew she had become the type of journalist he despised- a Paparazzi- she couldn’t imagine how much guilt he’d feel in prison.
Now, she had an even more disgraceful identity: a mistress. It felt like she was living in the shadows of this world.
No matter what, before her dad was released, she had to shed these identities.
She also needed to save enough money for her dad to live comfortably once he was out.
“Miss Gu, Mr. Li has instructed,” the driver suddenly said from the front seat, “Please keep your phone on during his days abroad, and stay in C City.”
“…”
The driver was certainly diplomatic in his delivery; Li Juefeng’s tone would never be this gentle.
With a bitter smile, Gu Xiaoai turned her head to the side and closed her eyes, pretending to nap.
Qindao was located in a corner of her hometown, and soon the driver had driven the car to Qindao Prison.
Sitting at the visiting window, separated by glass, Gu Xiaoai saw a handsome middle-aged man in prison attire sit down across from her, with two expressionless guards standing behind him.
The middle-aged man was her father, Gu Xin.
His hair was cropped short, his face slightly haggard, lacking the imposing presence he once had in the Shopping Mall.
Picking up the phone, Gu Xiaoai smiled, “Dad, why have you lost weight again? Aren’t you eating well?”
After nearly nine years in prison, Gu Xin grew more haggard and thinner each year. Fortunately, his spirit was still intact; otherwise, as a daughter, she wouldn’t know what to do.
