“Ugh-”
The acrid taste of alcohol forced its way up again as Gu Xiaoai bent over, retching. Tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to fall as the agony overwhelmed her.
“Miss, this is the men’s restroom.”
A gentle and pleasant male voice spoke from behind her, kindly reminding her of her surroundings.
Gu Xiaoai’s entire body stiffened. Still keeping her head bowed, her reddened eyes peeked through the strands of her disheveled hair at the large mirror in front of her.
A young man stood behind her. A white shirt paired with a silver-gray tie accentuated his tall, lean frame. His elegant and handsome face had an air of refinement, and his bright eyes, tinged with concern, were focused intently on her.
How could it be him…
Why was he here?
Gu Xiaoai felt her pulse come to a halt as she stared blankly at the man in the reflection.
“Miss, are you alright?”
His gentle voice reached her ears again, and his long, graceful hand stretched toward her…
Startled, Gu Xiaoai jerked away, quickly dodging to one side. She hastily threw her hands up, tugging at her messy hair to cover her face, only to end up banging her head hard against the door.
“Miss, are you okay?” he asked with concern, stepping closer as if to support her.
“Sorry, sorry.” Gu Xiaoai, like a frightened rabbit, stumbled and flinched away, pushing the restroom door open in her panic. Her voice trembled as she choked out, “I’m so sorry. I went to the wrong place.”
Her tone was laced with such desperation that she sounded on the verge of tears.
In this state, how could she face him… She wasn’t worthy, not worthy of facing him…
Once she exited the restroom, Gu Xiaoai ran her fingers through her unruly hair to smooth it out. Her eyes stung with unshed tears, and the shock from just moments ago lingered, leaving her dazed.
Nine years. After nine whole years, she had somehow run into him again.
Chu Shixiu… Judging by his composed and vibrant appearance, he must have been doing well all these years.
As the only son of the prestigious Chu Family, it was only natural that he lived a much better life than a fallen, destitute young lady like her…
That’s good. Really good.
As long as his life was going well… that was enough.
The dim lights in the corridor swayed softly along the walls as Gu Xiaoai struggled to hold back her tears and kept moving forward. Her legs felt as though they were treading on clouds, each step unsteady and unreal.
Before she could process what was happening, a dominant force pushed her into the corner. Pain shot through her as she frowned and looked up, only to see Li Juefeng’s tall figure blocking her path.
When had this man come out?
“What are you doing?” Gu Xiaoai had no energy left to deal with him. Frustrated, she tried to push him away, but her legs wobbled weakly.
Li Juefeng trapped her against the wall, his knee pressing between her legs. One hand firmly seized her flailing arm as his warm breath blew hot against her face. “I still prefer seeing you in a dress.”
