Chapter 7
Combining Emily’s words, I understood why Jane was so eager for Leo to take her to the comprehensive department and the reason behind her change in attitude.
Leo and I were preparing for divorce, and she originally had the chance to succeed.
But now, others have caught wind of the news and are flocking in.
Each of them has decent conditions.
All can bring a sense of novelty.
She’s afraid the cooked duck will fly away.
There’s a sense of crisis.
She needs to use “blatant power” to warn those who have thoughts about Leo.
This half month probably wasn’t the first time she caused a scene, forcing Leo to leave tonight.
She likely knows she’s overdone it.
So earlier, she wanted to use those photos to provoke me.
Pull me into confronting Leo, let Leo see how I act when I’m crazy, and shift the blame onto me.
Before she sent those filthy things, I truly didn’t want to bother.
Since she insists on disgusting people.
I’ll oblige her.
I neither blocked nor blacklisted her.
The first thing I did was arrange to have dinner with Leo.
He hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
The restaurant was the place where Leo first celebrated my birthday, near the university town.
Back then, it was a small stir-fry shop, now it’s doubled in size, business is thriving.
Leo’s luxury car parked at the entrance looked out of place with the surrounding old alley.
This was the best thing Leo could afford to treat me to over a decade ago.
He used the money he saved from part-time jobs to buy me a necklace and brought me here for dinner.
I looked at the sharply dressed Leo across from me and the sincere young man in my memory, overlapping and then disappearing.
I didn’t choose a private room, deliberately picked a spot by the roadside, where the sunlight was great.
Neither of us spoke, Leo ordered and then skillfully rinsed my bowl and chopsticks with hot water.
While eating, Leo kept feeling the taste was off.
He even called the owner over, learning his father was still the chef.
He was slightly surprised, said no more.
I picked up a chopstick of spicy stir-fried pork, found the taste as usual, and laughed saying he had changed.
Leo asked, “Really?”
“Naturally, you’ve seen too much, eaten too much over the years, no longer find this small shop’s flavor good.
“But I still feel the taste is the same as back then.”
Leo paused his chopsticks, looked at me, silent for a moment, “Sophia, I’m sorry…”
I smiled bitterly, “People are already looking forward, I need to learn this from you.”
Leo softly, probing, “You don’t want to ask anything?”
“If I ask, will you answer truthfully?”
Say you were still fooling around with Jane on the day of my father’s surgery?
Leo, you can’t say it.
He was silent, slowly sighed, then asked if there was something I needed.
I was straightforward, recently needed a sum of money, wanted to ask if he could quickly give me that 12 million.
“Sophia, even if you came to me today for money, I’m still happy.
“All these years, I didn’t expect I’ve moved forward, and you’re still in the same place.
“I’ll transfer the money to you as soon as possible, if you need any help in the future, feel free to contact me.”
After Leo left, I went to the front desk to settle the bill.
Sent a red envelope to the big boss, thanking him for the small favor just now.
He told Leo his father was still the chef, which was true, but the kitchen had more than one chef long ago.
This spicy stir-fried pork wasn’t made by his father, the taste was close but still different.
Leo tasting the difference was normal.
I just wanted him to feel superior from here.
Feel he’s already different, while I still remember and cherish the past with him.
Showing weakness, negotiating terms becomes much easier.
After leaving, I went to a private studio.
Contacted last night, got the news this afternoon.
Fast enough.
He handed me a file folder.
It’s Jane’s.
Age 41, married, with a child aged 12.
Her husband works in a factory in the neighboring city.
Besides that, the person she’s been in contact with the most these two years is her brother.
Her brother also knows about Leo’s existence.
Honestly, I was still surprised when I saw this information.
I knew Jane’s age, but she always said she was divorced at the company.
And she has a child.
The key point is she hasn’t divorced!
I asked the studio manager if the file was real.
He proudly gave me an “OK” hand gesture.
“Rest assured with my work, as long as you nod, I can send it out immediately…”
“No need.”
I didn’t want these files to inform Leo.
On the contrary, I hope Jane can hide her husband well recently.
At least hide him smoothly until I finish the divorce.
I underestimated Jane.
Thought she wanted to be the third party.
Didn’t expect it was a pig-killing scam.
Spent two years on Leo, seeing success soon, she surely won’t let others intercept.
I drew a circle on the calendar.
13 days countdown to divorce.
