Chapter 2
I sat alone in the dimly lit living room.
It wasn’t until I heard a noise at the front door that I awkwardly got up to turn on the light.
To my surprise, I came face to face with the Lin Family’s heiress, Lin Xiran.
As Jiang’s Mother praised, she was indeed graceful and courteous.
Seeing me, she merely tucked her long hair behind her ear and smiled lightly, “Huaixu drank too much tonight. I was worried, so I brought him back myself.”
“You must be the maid, right? Could you help him inside, please?”
Jiang Huaixu stood beside her, pinching the bridge of his nose.
He didn’t like drinking, and it always gave him headaches.
I stood there, unsure of what to do.
My current position was truly awkward.
Lin Xiran looked at me, puzzled, just about to urge me again when Jiang Huaixu spoke up, relieving my embarrassment.
“She’s An Qin.”
“Don’t mind her.”
I didn’t dare to look up, but I could clearly sense Lin Xiran’s gaze on me turning a bit odd.
Jiang Huaixu ignored me, took her by the wrist, and led her inside, “It’s cold outside, come in first.”
The cold wind seeped through my thin clothes, sending chills all over my body.
I pressed my lips together and obediently stepped forward to close the door.
Since Jiang Huaixu took over the family business, he became busier and more indifferent towards me.
But it didn’t matter, I was leaving soon anyway.
I adjusted my mood and habitually went to the kitchen to make some warm porridge.
When I brought it out, I ran into Lin Xiran again.
This time, she didn’t hide her disdain.
“Miss An, as Huaixu’s fiancée, there are some things I need to make clear to you.”
“Don’t give these cheap trinkets anymore.”
“We grew up together, and now our families are perfectly matched. Isn’t that the best gift for him?”
I glanced at the small box in her hand, feeling a sudden tightness in my chest.
It was supposed to be Jiang Huaixu’s birthday gift from me.
Not expensive, but I had prayed for it on the mountain for three whole days.
Praying for his safety and success.
But I forgot, he was no longer the disheveled boy I had once taken in.
“Sorry, Miss Lin, I’ll take it back now.”
I reached out, but the next second the box was thrown into the bowl in my hand-
Scalding porridge splashed out, and in pain, I instinctively let go.
The porcelain bowl fell to the ground, making a sharp, piercing sound.
“Stop pretending to be pitiful. You can take back this junk, but can you take back your filthy intentions?”
I clutched my scalded hand, about to retort, when I saw Jiang Huaixu frowning as he approached:
“What happened?”
