Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 6 - Fear
Li Minchun never expected that such vile things could happen on this seemingly simple island.
As she was preparing the antidote for Jian Yiqing, two figures quietly approached her.
However, Li Minchun only pretended not to notice.
She wanted to see what exactly these two people intended to do.
Seeing that Li Minchun hadn’t noticed, she continued to focus intently on chopping the treasure with a kitchen knife. Only by turning it into powder could its medicinal effects be maximized, as the doctor had told her.
The two exchanged a look, and one of them lunged at Li Minchun like a predator. The other cooperated seamlessly by grabbing hold of her right hand, which was clutching the knife.
Faced with two strong men, the frail woman seemed easily overpowered.
However, confronted with this scene, Li Minchun showed no emotion and merely asked with a cold smile, “What do you want?”
The taller man laughed lecherously and said, “Sister, with a face as beautiful as yours, why waste it on someone who’s dying?”
“So?”
“Let the two of us take care of you. We guarantee you’ll be comfortable,” the shorter one added with a lecherous grin. “Besides, with this Millennium Leaf Sand, the three of us could live comfortably for the rest of our lives without worrying about a thing. Even if you give it all to him, it will only extend his life by two years.”
“Is it worth going through all this trouble just for two more years of life?”
The two men didn’t intend to harm Li Minchun. After all, her angelic face made it difficult for them to act, so they began to persuade her softly.
Faced with this, Li Minchun merely flashed a cold smile at the corner of her mouth.
Just as she was about to take action, Xiao Ru’s dad, who was bringing in firewood, entered. The honest and simple man threw the firewood aside and shouted angrily, “What do you two beasts think you’re doing?”
Saying this, he swung a stick and charged at the two men.
Witnessing this, Li Minchun, who was about to act, had no choice but to stand down.
The two, struck by the stick, were unwilling and shouted, “Oh, Xiao Ru’s dad, keeping a woman at home and now you hit us…”
As the argument continued, Xiao Ru’s mom finally appeared.
Despite her usual gentle and simple demeanor, Xiao Ru’s mom was no pushover when it came to serious matters. She stood with her hands on her hips at the doorway and scolded the two scoundrels, “What nonsense are you two spouting here? We took them in at the patriarch’s request, so don’t let greed cloud your mind. If you’re capable, go dive for treasures yourself. If not, shut your filthy mouths. Whether others can get treasure is their business, not yours! I’m telling you, either leave now and never come back, or we’ll go to the patriarch and settle this!”
On this isolated island, there was no rule of law and it wasn’t governed by any country. It was practically a small independent nation, and the person in charge was the respected patriarch.
Who would dare disrespect the patriarch here? That would be a grave offense, deserving of being thrown into a sack and fed to the sharks.
Frightened by Xiao Ru’s mom, the two finally slinked away dejectedly.
As they passed by Li Minchun, they said gratefully, “Sister, don’t worry, we’ll protect you from now on!”
Seeing the sincere and honest couple, Li Minchun nodded gratefully.
The medicine was soon administered to Jian Yiqing, but Li Minchun was utterly exhausted. She was so drained that before she could see any reaction from Jian Yiqing, she fell into a deep sleep on his chest.
In her dreams, time seemed to take her back to the day of their proposal.
Just as she was about to accept Jian Yiqing’s proposal with joy and happiness, she heard the whistling sound of bullets cutting through the air.
Instinctively, Li Minchun sensed the impending danger.
As she pulled Jian Yiqing down toward the bottom of the boat, she could distinctly feel several bullets zipping over their heads.
At the same time, she quickly shot several silver projectiles in the direction from which the bullets came.
Li Minchun controlled the speed and force of the silver projectiles with such precision that they rivaled a gun. A moment later, she heard a series of “plop” sounds on the distant horizon.
Despite her quick reflexes, one bullet grazed Jian Yiqing’s neck.
Fortunately, he tilted his body just in time to avoid a fatal shot; otherwise, he might have met his end.
“Li Minchun, you have to go,” Jian Yiqing shouted, clutching his wound.
But Li Minchun paid him no mind. She swiftly pulled out a dagger she carried, skillfully extracting the bullet from his wound, and tore fabric from her skirt to bandage him up.
Then, she tied a rope from the speedboat around both of their waists and said firmly, “I can’t abandon the father of my child. If you are a man, you have to hold on!”
Jian Yiqing was both touched and astonished. Li Minchun truly lived up to her reputation as an elite mercenary, reacting correctly in a crisis. With bullets whizzing past, she managed to handle everything in under thirty seconds.
Finally, she severed the speedboat’s electrical cables with a single slash of her dagger, plunging them into complete darkness.
As bullets continued to fly their way, the two leaped into the sea.
The mercenaries had positioned themselves at a distance to avoid detection by Jian Yiqing and Li Minchun.
As they moved closer to the yacht, it suddenly exploded, making it even harder to find traces of Li Minchun and Jian Yiqing.
The leader’s eyes glinted with cruelty as he spoke coldly, “The bullets are coated with deadly poison. It won’t be long before Jian Yiqing is finished. Now, go find them. We must locate these two people.”
The thought that Li Minchun managed to kill three of their snipers at such a critical moment made the leader feel a pang of pain.
He had a vague sense of foreboding; he had to kill this woman, or the consequences would be unimaginable.
Under the cover of night, Li Minchun swam through the frigid ocean waters with Jian Yiqing in tow.
The prior romantic views had vanished, leaving only the endless expanse of seawater in sight.
Returning to the shore was not an option; she knew that many mercenaries would be lying in wait there. If the two of them surfaced, they’d surely be riddled with bullets.
To survive, they had no choice but to push themselves to swim further out into the deep ocean.
Gradually, Jian Yiqing began to lose strength due to his excessive blood loss.
Seeing Li Minchun struggle ahead while dragging him along, Jian Yiqing felt a pang of guilt and quietly tried to untie the rope from his waist.
But Li Minchun noticed and issued a cold warning: “The three of us, we live together, or we die together. Make your choice.”
Locked in Li Minchun’s steadfast gaze, Jian Yiqing was momentarily transported back to those years, seeing that fiery figure and proud, indomitable face once again.
The woman before him was Li Minchun, the elite mercenary Li Minchun. Missions assigned to her were almost inevitably completed. Her intelligence, charm, and beauty left a deep imprint on everyone.
“Why go to such lengths?” Jian Yiqing’s eyes welled with tears. His lips were cracked and pale, yet he resolutely refrained from drinking any seawater.
But his drooping arm indicated he had decided to follow Li Minchun’s resolve.
She was right: either they lived together, or they died together!
In such a lifeless ocean, their only option was to persevere.
It was uncertain how long they’d been swimming, or how far they had gone, but they finally saw a glimmer of hope. Yet before they could celebrate, a massive ocean vortex engulfed them.
After a few spins, they both lost consciousness. The next time they awoke, they found themselves on Zhenmu Island.
In her sleep, Li Minchun’s brow furrowed tightly as she recalled those difficult memories, and a single teardrop slid down her cheek.
She suddenly felt warmth and hurriedly opened her eyes, only to find a handsome face staring intently at her.
His gaze was filled with warmth and affection.
“Jian Yiqing!”
Seeing Jian Yiqing finally awake, Li Minchun excitedly pulled him into her embrace.
Jian Yiqing was equally thrilled, holding the woman in his arms tightly.
After everything they had been through, they had survived.
Nearby, Xiao Ru’s mother and father quietly slipped out of the room. Xiao Ru wanted to come in and take a look, but her parents quickly pulled her away.
Such an intimate scene was not suitable for children to witness.
Jian Yiqing gently caressed Li Minchun’s cheek, noticing how pale and tired she looked. He must have worried her sick during this ordeal.
“My wife, I promise I won’t make you worry like this again, okay?” Jian Yiqing said with emotion.
Li Minchun nodded vigorously.
The usually strong and proud Li Minchun nodded silently, nestling into Jian Yiqing’s chest like a gentle bird, once he finally awoke.
As long as this man was by her side, she would happily live a simple life, content with the basics.
The news of Jian Yiqing’s awakening spread across the small Zhenmu Island as swiftly as when Li Minchun had obtained the Millennium Leaf Sand.
When the couple arrived at the doctor’s home with half a pearl of Millennium Leaf Sand in hand, everyone was amazed and wide-eyed.
With a warm smile, Li Minchun placed the precious item on the table and said, “Our presence has caused quite a disturbance and inconvenience to the residents of Zhenmu Island. This Millennium Leaf Sand is of no use to us now, so we would like to offer it to the village.”
The patriarch and the doctor accepted the Millennium Leaf Sand with trembling hands, repeatedly expressing their gratitude.
Such a treasure was invaluable to them, especially on Zhenmu Island where toxic creatures were abundant. The number of people who had died from poisoning was countless. Having this would greatly reduce the risk of death.
What surprised people more was the generosity of Li Minchun and Jian Yiqing.
This was Millennium Leaf Sand, a treasure people would fight desperately for, yet they were willing to give it away just like that.
Many called them heroes and good people, while others thought they were foolish for not cherishing such a valuable treasure.
After returning, Li Minchun gave the remaining piece of Millennium Leaf Sand to Xiao Ru’s mom.
“Oh my, sister, what are you doing?” Xiao Ru’s mom was shocked at receiving such a precious gift and was afraid to accept it.
But Li Minchun insisted, “When we were in trouble, it was you who reached out and helped us through a difficult time. Now, being able to give you this is a token of our gratitude, so please don’t refuse.”
“No, no, buddy’s wounds haven’t fully healed yet; how can we accept this?” Xiao Ru’s mom said, and even Xiao Ru’s dad, the honest and simple farmer, echoed the sentiment.
But no matter how they tried to decline, they couldn’t match Li Minchun’s strength.
Despite her slim and petite build, she possessed an extraordinary strength, yet she used it without causing them any harm.
“Please, just accept our small token of appreciation,” Jian Yiqing added with a warm smile.
Seeing their genuine insistence, Xiao Ru’s parents eventually accepted the gift.
