Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 36 - Confession
Once in the car, Li Minchun’s mood finally began to calm down a bit, and she asked, “Why are you here?”
“Madam Li was worried about you, so she specifically asked me to come and help,” Xian Cheng said, looking at Li Minchun beside him.
Li Minchun felt a bit annoyed. What was up with Madam Li? She had already said she didn’t need help.
“I can manage on my own. Besides, not everyone can meet the Ling Kong chief. You might end up being a hindrance.”
Hearing Li Minchun’s blunt refusal, Xian Cheng did not get angry; instead, he burst into laughter.
“As expected of Li Minchun, her temper is still the same as before,” Xian Cheng remarked, glancing at Li Minchun beside him.
Even though he was being scolded, he still had a faint smile on his face.
“To be honest, Madam Li didn’t ask me to assist you. She sent me to find Cheng Mo because there are reports of Cheng Mo being spotted here.”
“Cheng Mo? Is she still in China?” Li Minchun was taken aback upon hearing that Cheng Mo might appear again. This woman was always so troublesome.
Moreover, given her clever mind, she might have already figured out that the most dangerous place is the safest. Instead of going to unfamiliar places, she might as well stay here.
“There are just some leads right now; whether it’s true or not hasn’t been confirmed. You need to be careful, okay?”
As he spoke, Xian Cheng had already arrived with Li Minchun at the doorstep of her home.
Li Minchun wasn’t surprised at all that Xian Cheng could find her house. After all, she owed her skills to him. Tracking down someone’s home address was a breeze.
“Alright, I’m home. Just go on about your business.” After saying this, Li Minchun turned around to head upstairs. But standing downstairs, Xian Cheng looked hurt and asked helplessly, “Aren’t you going to invite me up for a bit?”
Since he had already put it that way, Li Minchun could only invite him, “Alright then, come up for a cup of tea.”
Li Minchun led Xian Cheng upstairs.
After using fingerprints, passwords, keys, facial recognition, and everything else set up, the door to Li Minchun’s home finally made a crisp and pleasant “click” sound, and the door finally opened.
As they entered the room, an infrared scanner first swept over their bodies from head to toe.
Afterwards, the device emitted a series of beeps resembling an alarm.
Li Minchun glanced questioningly at Xian Cheng behind her, who helplessly pulled a small handgun from his waist.
“Alright, you don’t need to take it out anymore,” Li Minchun acknowledged, knowing that in their line of work, such items were necessary to have at the ready for emergencies.
As Xian Cheng re-holstered the handgun, Li Minchun had already deactivated the alarm system in the house.
“Okay, you can come in now,” Li Minchun said with a bright smile. Only then did Xian Cheng confidently step into the high-tech house.
Noticing the spotless and beautifully maintained condition of the room, it perfectly matched Li Minchun’s lifestyle habits.
“You seem just like you used to be, not much has changed.”
Wandering through the different rooms and noting the lack of evidence of anyone else having visited, Xian Cheng felt rather satisfied.
Li Minchun’s voice came from the toilet: “With our identities, who would be reckless enough to approach?” She said as she emerged from the toilet. This time, her face was free of the mask, instantly revealing her previous beautiful appearance.
“Much more comfortable to look at,” Xian Cheng said with a smile.
“And you? Always wearing that, doesn’t it get tiring?” Li Minchun laughed, pointing to the mask on Xian Cheng’s face.
How were they different? Wasn’t he also living behind a mask?
Xian Cheng, laughing, pulled off his mask and said with resignation, “It’s just to be on the safe side. You know, I have too many enemies. What if one with evil intentions succeeds in killing me? Wouldn’t that be too unjust?”
Li Minchun laughed, her face radiant with a smile as beautiful as a delicate flower: “Who are you kidding? With your status, an assassination? Stop joking around.”
But Xian Cheng replied seriously, “I’m human too, and humans can be careless. I’m fine now, but who can guarantee the future? Even Cheng Mo could betray us, who knows if one day I might just…”
“Tsk tsk tsk, you’re getting carried away,” Li Minchun interrupted him, scolding him. Yet Xian Cheng quickly grasped her hands in his, his face filled with emotion as he blurted out, “Li Minchun, there are some things I think I should tell you…”
“No, I don’t want to know. It’s getting late, and I want to rest. You better leave now.” Li Minchun seemed to sense something was amiss and had already issued an eviction order. But before she could escape, Xian Cheng pulled her into his arms and kissed her lips fiercely, a move he had long wanted to make.
Li Minchun, previously somewhat resistant, felt her body tremble under his dominant approach, and her consciousness began to blur, collapsing softly into his embrace.
Drawing closer, looking at the beautiful woman before him, Xian Cheng spoke sincerely, “Li Minchun, do you know how much I love you? Since the first time I saw you as a child, I fell in love with you. All these years, I’ve been silently watching over you. I thought you understood my feelings, but I never expected you to actually have a real relationship with Jian Yiqing…”
“Get away from me,” Li Minchun tried to push the man in front of her away but found herself utterly powerless. In front of this man, all her refusals were in vain.
“Li Minchun! Hear me out!” Xian Cheng shouted, holding her tightly, like a wild beast out of control. As this scene unfolded, all Li Minchun could do was struggle, praying that he would not defile her in the slightest.
“I love you, I truly love you, can’t we be together…” he said, no longer caring whether Li Minchun agreed as he threw himself on top of her.
The intense pressure almost made Li Minchun’s tears fall.
Could it be that today she would indeed fall prey to him?
Despite feeling immensely unwilling, Li Minchun knew there was nothing she could do about it.
“Su Xin, Su Xin!”
At that moment, Jian Yiqing’s voice suddenly echoed from outside.
Hearing this, Li Minchun’s face instantly changed.
Xian Cheng straightened up immediately, walking quickly to the window. Sure enough, he saw Jian Yiqing standing next to his car, staring at this residential area.
It was clear that he was certain Li Minchun was here, but he possibly didn’t know her exact location yet.
“How are you still involved with him?” Xian Cheng shouted in frustration.
He had thought that after everything that had happened, Li Minchun would no longer be involved with Jian Yiqing. He was unaware that Li Minchun had taken on this mission to trade the Ling Kong chief’s head for her own freedom.
He assumed that Li Minchun willingly wanted to continue working for Madam Li, reflecting on and repenting for her past life.
But now it seemed like that wasn’t the case at all.
During this gap, Li Minchun’s strength slowly began to return.
She was a professional mercenary, capable of recovering quickly even if drugged.
Having fallen into this trap once, there was almost no possibility that Xian Cheng could drug her again.
Li Minchun wasn’t foolish enough to stand idly by and let Xian Cheng drug her a second time, definitely not.
Without answering his question, Li Minchun instead coldly asked, “Did you apply the sedative on your lips?”
“Li Minchun!”
Xian Cheng was a bit angry. At this moment, clearly, the issue with Jian Yiqing was much more serious than him drugging her.
Yet Li Minchun paid him no mind and continued in a cold voice, “It’s my business, you don’t need to interfere. And even without Jian Yiqing, there is no way we could ever be together, understand?”
As she spoke, she had already opened the door, making a gesture for him to leave.
Xian Cheng looked deeply hurt as he gazed at Li Minchun in front of him. They had grown up together, always by each other’s side, even during training. But now it seemed as if all those memories had vanished from her mind.
In Li Minchun’s heart, there seemed to be no one else apart from Jian Yiqing.
Even after taking on a new identity and preparing for a fresh start, she remained as devoted as ever when it came to Jian Yiqing.
“Li Minchun, do you not know my feelings?” Xian Cheng asked.
“But do you know that emotions are a two-way street? No matter how earnest you are, it doesn’t matter to me. Let it go, Xian Cheng. I hope we can still be friends in the future, right?”
“No!”
Faced with Li Minchun’s straightforward rejection, Xian Cheng’s emotions spiraled out of control. Like an enraged beast, he pointed towards Jian Yiqing outside and shouted, “Is it because of this man? Are you treating me this way entirely because of him? Fine, I’ll make sure you both thoroughly enjoy this.”
As he spoke, Xian Cheng pulled out his handgun, pointing it at Jian Yiqing as quickly as he could.
Outside, Jian Yiqing remained oblivious to all of this.
He never imagined that his spur-of-the-moment decision would bring him to this unfamiliar place for a woman who didn’t seem to care much for him.
He felt like an idiot, wandering around, shouting endlessly.
Little did he know, a dark muzzle was now aiming at him.
If he realized that the people he had followed were Li Minchun and Xian Cheng, these revelations might solve all the confusion he had before.
In his urgency, Xian Cheng forgot that Li Minchun’s dart was even faster than a bullet.
Especially when faced with the potential danger to someone she cared about. The silver projectile in Li Minchun’s hand had already cut through the air, flying towards Xian Cheng’s wrist.
Before Xian Cheng could even pull the trigger, the force was already applied to his wrist.
Then, his right hand, which was gripping the handgun, fell weakly, and the exquisite handgun dropped to the ground.
Tears streamed down Xian Cheng’s face as he spoke helplessly, “I never thought you would strike at me twice for this man.”
As he said this, Xian Cheng’s body slumped softly to the ground.
It wasn’t due to severe injury but because his heart had turned to ashes.
Li Minchun walked over, applied pressure to the acupoint on his wrist, and then took out the medical kit. She carefully applied medicine to his wound, gently blowing on it to prevent any increased pain from the treatment.
Even though such pain was trivial to a mercenary who often walked the edge of death, Li Minchun still tended to Xian Cheng’s wound like an ordinary woman, meticulously applying the medicine.
This scene warmed Xian Cheng’s heart. He couldn’t help but gaze at her beautiful face. She was just as lovely as when he first met her.
“All done,” Li Minchun said with a slight smile.
“You’re not going to find him?” Xian Cheng asked, blurting out such a foolish question.
Li Minchun just smiled and said, “No. Don’t ask me why-I don’t want to answer.”
Xian Cheng smiled.
For once, he managed to outdo Jian Yiqing. Even if it was just this one time, it was enough to make him feel happy.
