Taboo Mage - Chapter 25 - Buying a House
I handed the Flower Amulet to Wu Qian. She carefully hung the amulet around her husband’s neck. Instantly, red light spots began to flash and started swirling around him.
Wu Qian seemed to feel the change in her husband. I nodded in satisfaction, then packed my bag and prepared to leave.
Uncle Qin chased after me, insisting on escorting me back. I told him it wasn’t necessary since everything was already over. I suggested that we avoid further contact since we’re on different paths.
I am just an ordinary person.
Uncle Qin understood my reasoning. Then, he secretly slipped a card into my bag before turning back.
Returning to the store, I took out a calculator and my savings card. I counted all my savings one by one. After deducting the expenses for my mother’s hospitalization, I found that the amount on my bank card had actually exceeded six figures.
This number was something I had only dreamed about in my previous understanding.
Looking at the six digits on my bank card, an unusual feeling overwhelmed me. I wandered around the store with my bank card in hand, then made an important decision.
I… am going to buy a house!
I remember my father once said that money isn’t saved, it’s earned, but learning to save is also an effective way to make money.
I think this is the most useful lesson my father taught me besides the Yin-Yang conflict.
While I was dreaming about my wonderful future life, I suddenly heard a knock on the door. I turned to look and saw that it was Li Mi, who hadn’t visited me in a long time.
After several months, Li Mi had shed her shyness. She now exuded the charm of a young mature woman, and her fully developed figure made me take a few extra glances.
Li Mi seemed to notice what I was thinking, and a blush spread across her cheeks as she walked in with a smile.
“It’s been a while. Did you miss me?”
I huffed, “I think you’ve been dazzled by the university’s glitzy world and already forgot all about me.”
As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized I sounded like a jealous little boy.
As expected, upon hearing my words, Li Mi bit her lip, looking a bit embarrassed.
I shoved my bank card into my pocket and tried to change the subject with a smile, “So, what brings you here today?”
“School break. I didn’t want to go home,” Li Mi replied with a smile.
I nodded and sat down on the sofa. For a moment, I struggled to find a topic, and an inexplicable awkwardness filled the space between us.
After sitting for over half an hour, I ran my fingers over the frayed edge of the sofa, cleared my throat, and said, “Um… I’m planning to buy a house. Do you want to help me check it out?”
“Buying a house?” Li Mi looked at me in surprise.
I nodded and briefly explained my plan. Li Mi nodded along enthusiastically, then immediately pulled me out, saying that there was a new development that had just opened recently.
I was taken aback. To my knowledge, Li Mi’s family was of modest means, and since she was only a first-year university student, how did she know about the new development?
Li Mi didn’t notice my doubts; she was just excitedly dragging me towards a car.
When we arrived, I climbed out of the taxi and looked up to see the lavishly decorated Sales Office in front of the building. I couldn’t help but clutch my wallet.
I felt like I might have overestimated my financial capability.
Li Mi, full of excitement, pushed open the door to the Sales Office. A young woman in a tight business suit greeted her with a smile so sweet it could drip honey.
“Come on in!”
I hesitated at the doorway, contemplating whether I should just slip away quietly. But on second thought, Li Mi had dragged me here so eagerly to see the place, it would be embarrassing for me to bail out now.
The young woman at the Sales Office gave me a quick once-over. Though her smile remained plastered on, her attitude clearly cooled.
She led Li Mi and me to a table and casually tossed a brochure onto it before turning away to attend to a beer-bellied man in a suit nearby with the same beaming smile.
I snorted coldly, not saying a word. I had seen plenty of people who looked down on others based on appearances. If I let these kinds of people get to me, I would have died from anger long ago.
Li Mi was excitedly flipping through the brochure, occasionally pointing to a particular layout and showing it to me. She was as happy as if I were buying her a wedding house.
“What do you think about this one?” Li Mi pointed to a large layout in the brochure. I glanced at it casually, knowing I couldn’t afford it anyway.
Suddenly, the sales lady, who had been fawning over the man at the next table, turned her attention to us and started praising the house Li Mi had pointed out.
I had experienced sales talk before, but this was the first time I saw someone turning a regular three-bedroom apartment into a luxurious seaside villa with their words.
The more Li Mi listened, the more excited she became, especially when the sales lady finally quoted the price for the three-bedroom unit. Li Mi was shaking my arm, eagerly encouraging me to buy the house.
However, I noticed something off. The house was indeed nice, but its price was even lower than a standard one-bedroom unit, which was abnormal.
“Is there a chance that someone died in this house?” I jokingly teased, crossing my legs.
The sales lady’s face suddenly changed, and she trembled uncontrollably.
I raised an eyebrow. Could it be that I guessed right?
“Please hold on a moment.”
The sales lady left hurriedly after saying that. Watching her practically sprint in ten-centimeter high heels gave me a bad feeling.
In less than ten minutes, a well-dressed man approached us quickly, followed closely by the previously mentioned sales lady, who now wore a serious expression.
“Hello, could we speak somewhere else?” The man bent down and softly asked me.
I looked at him puzzled, then stood up, pulling Li Mi along. “No need, I’m just looking around. I don’t have the money to buy a house.”
After saying that, I dragged Li Mi out.
Back at the store, Li Mi was still in a daze, continually asking me what had happened. She couldn’t understand why I would pass up such a good deal.
I told her my thoughts, and Li Mi burst out laughing, asking since when I had become afraid of such things.
