Taboo Mage - Chapter 241 - Mistress Meets the Wife
It was clear Hu Zhipeng was a lost cause. The last hope inevitably rested on Li Mi.
Because Hu Zhipeng kept urging us and Zhou Qifang needed some time to prepare the Buddha amulet, Li Mi and I agreed to meet early the next morning.
To ensure Li Mi felt secure and to guarantee her safety, I was assigned to accompany her. I also dragged Chi Rui along-just in case things got physical, he’d be far more useful than I would.
The next morning, I got up early and hauled Chi Rui to Li Mi’s apartment building to pick her up.
After waiting for about half an hour, Li Mi finally appeared. Clearly, she had put a lot of effort into her appearance today, aiming to outshine Feng Suya in terms of presence.
I had to admit, Li Mi looked stunning after her meticulous makeover. Her figure, in particular, was undeniably impressive. But there was one glaring flaw I couldn’t ignore-no matter how many luxury brands she wore, the aura of someone steeped in the nightclub scene clung to her like a shadow. It was deeply ingrained, impossible to mask.
“Not bad. This Li Mi is quite the looker,” Chi Rui remarked, arms crossed as he leaned against the driver’s seat, casting a glance my way after spotting her.
I rolled my eyes at him and opened the passenger door for Li Mi.
As she bent down to get in, the car was instantly filled with a heavy cloud of perfume. I noticed Chi Rui wrinkle his nose and turn his head away.
Suppressing a laugh, I looked down, trying to keep my amusement in check. Chi Rui was probably regretting his earlier comment now.
I’d heard from Grandfather that the Chi Family, with their ancestral expertise in appraising antiques, placed great importance on a sharp sense of smell. They could precisely determine the age of artifacts by scent alone. As a result, Chi Family members were strictly forbidden from wearing perfume or anything with a strong fragrance. So, it was no surprise that Chi Rui found Li Mi’s scent off-putting.
Hu Zhipeng’s home was in an upscale residential area in the city. Since he had given Li Mi the access card in advance, we were able to enter the community without any issues.
The neighborhood consisted of rows of two-story villas. Following the address Hu Zhipeng had provided, we quickly located his house.
I had Chi Rui park the car a short distance from the villa, just in case things escalated between Li Mi and Feng Suya. This way, we could make a quick getaway if needed.
Chi Rui grinned and nodded, watching as Li Mi and I headed toward the villa’s entrance.
The villa’s door was tightly shut. I rang the doorbell repeatedly before hearing any movement inside. Finally, a woman in loungewear opened the door.
This had to be Feng Suya. Her appearance matched her name perfectly.
Feng Suya exuded simplicity and elegance. Her loungewear gave her the air of a wealthy lady from a TV drama-graceful and poised, yet distant.
“Who are you looking for?” Feng Suya asked, her gaze sweeping over both of us before settling on Li Mi. The aloofness in her eyes gradually gave way to a sharp, piercing look.
I had previously asked Li Mi if she had ever met Feng Suya.
Li Mi had told me that Feng Suya had always avoided her. Even during the infamous “caught in the act” incident, Feng Suya hadn’t paid her any attention. She had simply ordered someone to drag Hu Zhipeng, naked, out of Li Mi’s bed. Throughout the ordeal, Feng Suya hadn’t spared Li Mi a single glance.
But now, judging by Feng Suya’s expression, it was clear her intuition had kicked in. She must have realized that the woman standing before her was the one who had destroyed her happiness.
“Hello, I’m Li Mi. You’ve probably heard of me,” Li Mi said, her tone calm but provocative.
I nearly jumped out of my skin. Was she serious? Even if she wanted to provoke Feng Suya, couldn’t she be a little more subtle?
If I were Feng Suya, I’d have torn her apart on the spot.
Li Mi, however, remained unfazed. She stood there with her arms crossed, her chin slightly raised, her gaze challenging as she stared down Feng Suya.
“Oh, so what do you want? Let me guess-Hu Zhipeng doesn’t want you anymore, so you’ve come looking for trouble? Well, too bad. Hu Zhipeng doesn’t live here anymore,” Feng Suya retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
I took a step back, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire. Watching the scene unfold, I finally understood that a woman’s grace and composure only lasted as long as she wasn’t provoked. Once pushed to her limit, even the most refined lady could unleash her inner tigress. Feng Suya was living proof.
The battle between women usually began with words, escalating from sharp insults to personal attacks, and finally culminating in physical confrontation.
I was waiting for that final stage.
So, when I saw Li Mi reach out and grab a handful of Feng Suya’s hair, eliciting a blood-curdling scream, I quickly signaled to Li Mi to grab the hair and make a run for it. If the security guards showed up, none of us would get away.
Sometimes, I wondered if my perception of women’s intelligence was inherently biased. But when I saw Li Mi catch on to my signal, yank out a clump of Feng Suya’s hair, and laugh triumphantly as she dragged me toward the car, I couldn’t help but feel a grudging respect.
The neighborhood was bustling with people, but it seemed they were used to scenes like this-mistresses confronting wives. Most just turned to watch with varied expressions, showing no intention of intervening.
Li Mi and I made it safely back to the car. Chi Rui had been waiting for us, and before I could even shut the door, he floored the gas pedal.
“Well? Did you get the hair?” Chi Rui asked, his curiosity undeterred even as we sped away.
Before I could answer, Li Mi leaned forward, extending her hand past the driver’s seat. “See for yourself. Is this enough?”
I leaned over to take a look and immediately felt a shiver run down my spine.
In Li Mi’s hand was a tangled mess of hair, many strands still attached at the root.
