Taboo Mage - Chapter 228 - The Little Fox Takes the Stage
The little fox hesitated, glancing at the alms bowl in Jue Chi’s hand several times and then at Old Lady Xu. Finally, it squeaked a few times and walked over to me.
I grabbed the little fox by the neck, chuckling to myself. The little fox glared at me, then stretched its paw and scratched at the table surface.
The screeching sound made my skin crawl, and I closed my eyes briefly. When I opened them again, there was already a cut on the little fox’s foreleg, with fresh blood flowing out, staining its white, soft fur red.
“Quick, get a cup!” I shouted to Lin Huan.
A hand reached over, holding a glass cup. I glanced at Zhou Qifang and took the cup from his hand.
The little fox was quite ruthless with itself; the blood quickly covered the bottom of the cup. I hurriedly placed the life amulet inside the cup and signaled Lin Huan to take the little fox for bandaging.
The life amulet, covered in blood, suddenly turned a dark, somber color, as if the blood had seeped into it.
I burned a piece of yellow talisman paper inscribed with runes and stuffed it into the cup. The ashes melted into the blood upon contact.
After about half an hour, I took the life amulet out, placing my right hand on it. Sure enough, a warm current spread through my body.
It seemed that spending time with Jue Chi had indeed improved the little fox’s Taoist cultivation.
At this moment, Lin Huan returned with the little fox. I held the little fox in my arms, carefully checking the wound on its paw.
Lin Huan’s bandaging was quite professional; the little fox’s paw was wrapped in layers of gauze, with a butterfly knot tied at the ends.
The knot looked crooked and not very appealing.
“Does it still hurt?” I asked, holding the little fox’s paw.
The little fox looked up at me, its big eyes blinking, then shook its head.
I nodded, took the completed life amulet, and placed my hand on the little fox’s head, closing my eyes to chant the Incantation. The little fox pressed its injured paw against the life amulet.
A faint white mist swirled around the life amulet before quickly being absorbed into it.
After more than ten minutes, the little fox released its paw. I breathed a sigh of relief, lifted the life amulet, and examined it closely. Once everything was confirmed to be ready, I turned to Jue Chi.
Since capturing the dead dog’s spirit in the alms bowl, Jue Chi had been sitting cross-legged on the meditation cushion, silently reciting the Sutra to the alms bowl.
Sensing my gaze, Jue Chi opened his eyes and looked at me, then stood up and placed the alms bowl in the center of the red string array.
Zhou Qifang had already rearranged the red string array. Seeing how well the two worked together, I couldn’t help but marvel at how our previous collaborations had allowed us to complete such a complex and challenging task in such a short time.
As soon as the alms bowl was placed on the ground, it began to bounce as if a spring had been installed underneath. I nervously eyed my ceiling.
Jue Chi’s alms bowl was pure gold, as he had mentioned before. If it hit my ceiling, I’d have to pay for repairs.
Fortunately, Zhou Qifang had placed a restriction on the red string, and the alms bowl was quickly subdued by the faint glow from the strings.
I smirked, scoffing.
To dare act so brazenly in front of us three Masters-if not for its pitiful state and our intention to guide it into reincarnation, Zhou Qifang and Jue Chi could have easily subdued it!
Holding the life amulet, I stood up and walked to the front of the red string array. The little fox followed, lying on the meditation cushion at my feet.
Activating the array, I placed the life amulet in the glutinous rice basin in front of the alms bowl and chanted the Incantation. After a while, a black mist emerged from the alms bowl, gradually forming the shape of a dog.
“Why haven’t you gotten rid of me yet?” The shadowy dog, its gaze still sharp, glared at me and asked coldly.
I patted the little fox’s head, signaling it to take down the dog.
The little fox closed its eyes, quietly curling its head into its body as if asleep, while the shadow in the red string array twisted into a ball.
I rubbed my nose and stood up from the meditation cushion. Now, everything was in the little fox’s hands; it was up to it to persuade the dead dog.
Feeling a bit bored during the wait, I asked Jue Chi what the dog might become in its next life if it could reincarnate.
Jue Chi shook his head and said that everything in this world has its destiny, the Cycle of Cause and Effect. The dog’s loyalty in life might allow it to reincarnate as a human if it continued on that path.
But now, its resentment was too heavy, having possessed a human, a grave sin indeed.
I shook my head, thinking it was pitiful to have such unfortunate owners like the Xu family mother and son.
Glancing at the little fox, it seemed it needed more time, so I pulled Zhou Qifang aside and asked if he knew how the Zhou Family handled such situations.
Zhou Qifang rolled his eyes at me, leaving me momentarily stunned, while Lin Huan laughed heartily.
“Boss, if Mr. Zhou knew, wouldn’t he have told you already? Why go through all this trouble?”
Listening to Lin Huan’s unrestrained laughter, I felt deeply disrespected.
I glared at Lin Huan, ready to speak, when I suddenly heard squeaking sounds, realizing the little fox was done. I quickly turned to look.
Sure enough, the little fox had awakened, rubbing its paws on the ground, its arched back resembling a Samoyed.
“How did it go?” I asked.
The little fox jumped onto the coffee table, pulled out my keyboard, and typed a line.
“It wants Old Lady Xu’s life.”
I glanced at it and immediately said, “No way!”
This thing was truly greedy; its resentment was understandable, but this was my territory. How dare it be so relentless? Didn’t it fear I’d destroy it completely?
“Any other requests?”
I looked at the little fox, knowing this clever creature understood that the dead dog’s demands were excessive and that I would never agree.
