Taboo Mage - Chapter 158 - Flying to Beijing
Or rather, about to witness it firsthand for the first time, feeling a mix of anticipation and some inexplicable fear.
Zhou Qifang eventually agreed to Du Jun’s request to help remove the evil spirit from the Buddha amulet, but Zhou Qifang chose a time one week later.
I don’t know why it had to be a week later-is there some special reason for it?
The next morning, after Du Jun had left, Zhou Qifang explained the reason to me. It turned out that the condition of Du Jun’s initial deal with Zhou Qifang was to ensure a smooth and successful career.
And this one week was the time Zhou Qifang was giving Du Jun-to give him… time to give up his future…
To verify my suspicions, I spent the whole day in front of the TV, holding the remote control in one hand and my phone in the other, constantly refreshing any news about Du Jun.
The whole day went by without any news about Du Jun leaving the industry. I even saw promotions for Du Jun’s new TV drama and concert.
Could he have changed his mind at the last minute?
I quietly turned my head to look at Zhou Qifang sitting beside me. I have to say, Zhou Qifang truly is someone who follows through with what he says.
Since arriving at my home, he has been kneeling in front of my family’s ancestral tablets. I’ve seen him kneeling there for two or three days now, and I considered telling him to give it up. After all, I’m soft-hearted.
But Zhou Qifang unexpectedly said that since he agreed, he must go through with it.
So, I watched him holding my grandfather’s ancestral tablet in his left hand and my father’s tablet in his right, kneeling on a meditation cushion, watching the TV in front of him.
“Looks like he’s not planning to keep his promise, is he?” I asked with a smile.
Zhou Qifang shook his head. “That’s why I gave him a week-to think it over carefully. After all, not everyone can easily let go of so much wealth and glory.”
I nodded, agreeing with his humane approach, and my aversion towards Zhou Qifang significantly diminished.
Chi Rui had already left early in the morning to arrange matters in Beijing. I didn’t know when he’d be back, so I asked Lin Huan to prepare lunch.
When it was time for dinner, I called Zhou Qifang to come eat.
The three of us were sitting at the dining table, with the TV still on, when suddenly Lin Huan pointed at the screen and shouted, “Look! It’s Du Jun!”
I turned my head while shaking my chopsticks, and sure enough, an entertainment news segment was playing on the TV. A female anchor, dressed seductively, was hurriedly reporting a piece of news-it was Du Jun announcing his retirement from the entertainment industry?
My eyes widened as I stared at the news on the TV, unsure of what to think.
Indeed, everyone cherishes their life.
At some point, Zhou Qifang had put down his chopsticks and silently watched for a while, then he said to Lin Huan, “Book me a ticket to Beijing for tomorrow.”
“Huh? You’re going to Beijing? Didn’t we agree to wait until Chi Rui had everything arranged?” I asked, puzzled.
Lin Huan tossed his chopsticks aside to grab his laptop and rolled his eyes, saying, “Boss, did you not wake up properly today? Boss Gu is going to Beijing to deal with Du Jun’s situation!”
I exclaimed, “So… you’re just rushing off to Beijing? Aren’t you worried about that…”
“I’ve already promised Du Jun, and besides, don’t you see this as an opportunity?” Zhou Qifang’s lips slightly curled as he looked at me.
I was utterly confused; I couldn’t see how these two things were related at all…
Zhou Qifang composed himself and explained, “Instead of sending someone to infiltrate Beijing, it’s better if we go ourselves, and if we are going, we need a legitimate reason. Isn’t this the perfect opportunity?”
“Oh… you know, you’re right…”
I nodded, and Zhou Qifang glared at me, “How come I never noticed how slow you were before.”
“You’re the slow one! Who are you calling slow!” I shouted back.
Meanwhile, as Zhou Qifang and I were arguing, Lin Huan had already booked the flight tickets. I was actually hoping Zhou Qifang would leave soon to stop him from constantly hanging around here, mooching off me.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Qifang directly asked Lin Huan how many tickets he had booked.
Lin Huan said just one for him! Zhou Qifang waved his hand, “Book one for your boss too, he’s coming with me.”
“I’m not going!” I yelled, glaring.
“This matter is also related to your Gu Family. Aren’t you afraid I’ll do something if I go alone?” Zhou Qifang asked with an amused expression.
I thought about it and realized he was right. This issue concerns the happiness of our Gu Family’s future generations. I should definitely keep an eye on him.
So, I patted Lin Huan on the shoulder and asked him to book a ticket for me as well.
Lin Huan had just finished booking the tickets when Chi Rui pushed the door open, headed straight to the kitchen, and came back with a set of cutlery. He sat at the table and began eating. Seeing us gathered around the computer, he asked what we were doing.
I told him that I was going to Beijing with Zhou Qifang. Chi Rui glanced at Lin Huan, “Book one for me too.”
“Hey! Can you all say it at once? Do you think I’m free over here?” Lin Huan complained, but after a glance from Chi Rui, he obediently took the computer to book the ticket.
The flight was scheduled for early the next morning. I called Jue Chi to let him know I wouldn’t be home for a while. Jue Chi didn’t say much, just reminded me to take everything I needed.
After spending several days flying around, I felt like I was about to turn into a frequent flyer. The flight from our city to Beijing took just over two hours, not much different from flying to Bangkok.
But being domestic, it was always much more convenient than going abroad.
Once we landed, Du Jun was already waiting at the airport. After picking us up, he hurriedly drove us to his villa in Beijing.
Except for the times I’ve dealt with wealthy people in business, I rarely see such luxurious places. Upon arriving at the villa, I found a room I liked and lay down on the bed to enjoy it for a bit.
It was a small two-story villa with a garden in the back and an open-air swimming pool on the roof. The upstairs was for bedrooms, while the downstairs housed the living room and kitchen.
While I was resting upstairs, Du Jun was downstairs with Zhou Qifang, discussing the solution to the Buddha amulet issue.
Probably because I was too excited, I had forgotten to close the door, and I could hear Du Jun’s voice from downstairs.
But I couldn’t make out the details. I turned over in bed and suddenly heard Du Jun shout, “I don’t agree!”
Why doesn’t he agree now? Wasn’t everything fine a few days ago?
