Taboo Mage - Chapter 142 - The Hidden Trapdoor
Suddenly, it occurred to me that perhaps it had already found the entrance. Crouching down, I followed the little fox ahead.
However, after a few steps, I realized that the little fox was leading me in the opposite direction of the villa.
Though puzzled, I decided to follow and see where it led.
The little fox led me continuously forward until we stopped in front of a small wooden cabin. I was surprised by the sudden appearance of the cabin and curiously approached to investigate.
The door of the cabin was tightly shut. I kicked it open, only to find a table inside the otherwise barren room.
I sighed and turned to ask the little fox why it had brought me here for no reason.
The little fox anxiously darted around before suddenly scurrying beneath the table, scratching at a section of the wooden floor with its sharp claws.
I quickly walked over, knelt down to examine the floor, and noticed that this section was slightly raised compared to the rest.
Could there be a hidden trapdoor? I reached out and felt the floor, and with a strong tug, the wooden board lifted up.
At the same time, a familiar voice came from below.
“Qingshu, is that you?”
It was Jue Chi!
Excitedly, I answered back and jumped down, supporting myself with my hands.
The space below was large. As I followed the steps down, the area gradually expanded. I stood up straight, scanning the surroundings, while the little fox dashed towards a room. I hurried to follow.
Indeed, when I pushed the door open, I saw Jue Chi sitting on a bed, while Chi Rui was lying on another bed, either asleep or unconscious.
“How did you find us?” Jue Chi exclaimed in surprise upon seeing me before inquiring.
I gestured for silence, “Let’s skip the chatter and get out of here.”
Jue Chi nodded, picking up the little fox that had leapt onto him, while I went over to wake Chi Rui.
The three of us exited the room in sequence, clambered out from the floor, and without time to rest, we pushed the door open to rush out.
But as I opened the door, I froze in place.
Outside the door, three burly men stood holding guns, all dressed in black short-sleeved shirts. Without their sunglasses off, it was impossible to tell them apart.
It seemed like Taka was the kind of person who enjoyed watching TV dramas, able to emulate the bodyguard attire and demeanor straight from the screen.
Those Thai men started speaking rapidly in their language, none of which I understood, but their demeanor suggested they were asking whether we valued our lives or our pride.
In such situations, I usually choose… my life!
So, I stepped forward and said, “What exactly do you want? Let’s be clear.”
The men exchanged glances, then one of them stepped forward and said, “Our Boss asks that you wait here for a moment.”
Wait, my foot! I cursed silently. If we waited for Taka to arrive, escaping would be impossible!
I was trying to figure out how to sneak away while we still had the chance when my right hand instinctively reached into my pocket and touched a piece of talisman paper.
I was elated – fortune was on my side!
As I discreetly took out the talisman paper, holding it in my hand, I gave Chi Rui a quick glance.
Chi Rui was now fully alert. After exchanging a look with me, he stepped forward and started to chatter aimlessly to distract them. I took a step back and discreetly unfolded the talisman in my hand for a quick look.
Sure enough, it was the talismanic incantation for soul summoning!
Holding the talismanic incantation, I silently recited the Incantation, and while Chi Rui continued his distraction, I quickly threw the rune into the air.
The rune spun around mid-air and suddenly burst like fireworks.
“Run!”
I shouted, grabbing Jue Chi and sprinting forward. Chi Rui was right behind us, and we all dashed away. I glanced back just in time to see the burly men entangled with a red Resentful Spirit, unable to break free.
That was a Resentful Spirit I had preserved for a long time, brought from Chan Guang Monastery, just in case something went wrong on this trip to Thailand.
Turns out, it came in handy.
We ran for what felt like forever until we were all nearly exhausted, finally making it down the mountain. Chi Rui flagged down a car on the roadside, and we all piled in, heading straight for the hotel.
When we reached the hotel, Du Jun hadn’t returned yet, and Liao Qing was nowhere to be found either. Given Du Jun’s reputation, Taka probably wouldn’t dare mess with him.
As for Liao Qing, he was just a passerby.
Once we got to the hotel, we rested for about an hour before packing up and moving to a new place. Staying there any longer wasn’t an option, as we might end up in danger without even knowing it.
The Chi Family in Shenyang pulled some strings and arranged new accommodations for us within an hour.
This time, it was a two-story private house in Bangkok. Once we arrived, Jue Chi and I checked the surroundings to make sure it was safe. After confirming that the coast was clear, we all collapsed into our rooms, too exhausted to chat, and fell asleep immediately.
When I woke up again, it was already dark outside. I checked the time – it was past eight in the evening.
The little fox was sprawled happily on the carpet, belly up and carelessly relaxed.
Breathing a sigh of relief, I got up and scratched the little fox’s belly, then headed out to find Jue Chi and Chi Rui. Too many unexpected events had happened during this trip to Thailand, and my head was a chaotic mess. I needed to find someone to discuss the situation with.
Jue Chi’s room was to the left, so I knocked there first, but no one responded. Chi Rui’s door was open, but the room was empty.
Could they already be up?
I quickly headed downstairs and found them, as I suspected, happily eating at the table. When they saw me, they casually greeted me without even looking up.
I rolled my eyes and hurried over to satisfy my hunger.
Halfway through the meal, I remembered the pressing matter and asked, “What exactly happened when you were taken?”
Jue Chi recounted the night’s events, then looked at Chi Rui, who explained while continuing to eat.
I carefully considered what both of them said. Jue Chi had followed the Woman in red on his own, and halfway there, everything went black. When he opened his eyes again, he was trapped under the floor.
Chi Rui went to Taka’s place, exchanged a few words, and then Taka became suspicious. Chi Rui was knocked out from behind with a single blow.
I frowned, wondering why I managed to walk in and out without any trouble. Did Taka truly hold me in such high regard?
