Taboo Mage - Chapter 109 - Capturing the Female Ghost
Seeing the sudden situation unfold, I couldn’t care much and immediately drew my peachwood sword, thrusting it towards the female ghost.
The peachwood sword went right through the ghost’s body, and I couldn’t help but lean closer to her. The ghost suddenly turned around, her long black hair covering her face, and all I could see was a dark mass.
“Damn!”
I spat out a mouthful of hair and quickly retreated a few steps, spitting several more times.
Jue Chi, who was nearby, had already rushed forward, tightly wrapping his prayer beads around the ghost. She struggled for a moment, but the beads acted like a rope, securely binding her arms.
Seeing that Jue Chi could hold on for a while, I stepped aside to catch my breath and then turned to find Lama Duoren. This female ghost was summoned by him, and now that there’s a mishap, it’s naturally his mess to clean up.
Because of the sudden chaos, the courtyard was in disarray. After searching through the crowd for a while, I finally found Lama Duoren behind the archway.
Surprisingly, Lama Duoren was crouching among a patch of flowers, holding his head, and shaking like a leaf in the wind.
“You fraud! What are you doing here? You conjured this thing, so deal with it now!” I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him out from the bushes.
Lama Duoren shook his head, “I don’t know anything about ghost catching! Do you want me to die?”
“So you’re okay with creating this mess and leaving us to clean up after you?” I shouted angrily.
Never before had I met such a shameless fraud who could lie so confidently.
Lama Duoren glared at me, “It was your assistant who agreed to help!”
His words completely infuriated me, and I slapped him hard across the face.
“Gu Qingshu! Gu Qingshu! Hurry up and get over here!”
One slap wasn’t enough to vent my anger. I was about to teach this fraudulent lama another lesson when Chi Rui called out my name from behind, shouting at the top of his lungs.
I turned my head to see Chi Rui sprinting towards me, carrying my great-grandfather on his back and holding Bai Jie’s hand with the other.
In the courtyard behind them, Jue Chi was still entangled with the female ghost, who was emanating dark energy. Her sharp fingernails were slashing through the air.
Gritting my teeth, I searched through my belongings and finally found a peachwood sword and a few talisman papers in my bag. Even though they weren’t as effective as a protective life amulet, they were better than nothing.
I handed the talisman papers to my great-grandfather, instructing him to keep them close to his body. Then I gave the peachwood sword to Bai Jie. As for Chi Rui, he still had my protective life amulet around his neck. As long as he kept it on, no evil spirits could get near him.
Chi Rui nodded and ran out, carrying my great-grandfather.
I found my copper coin sword, held it tightly, and was just about to charge forward when Chi Hong emerged from behind the archway, blocking me, and growled, “I advise you not to meddle.”
“What do you mean? Your house is the one that’s haunted. If you can’t fix the mess you made, how can you accuse me of meddling?”
I frowned, confused about what was going through his mind. Why wouldn’t he ask for help with such a serious problem and instead refuse my assistance?
Chi Hong snorted, “I said stay out of it. It’s my family’s business, and I’ll handle it myself.”
“Fine, handle it then. If you’re so capable, go deal with that female ghost right now. You won’t do it yourself or let others do it, no wonder great-grandfather has no respect for you!”
I shouted, pushing past him and charging towards the female ghost.
The female ghost in red was filled with resentment, and Jue Chi, equipped only with his prayer beads and lacking other sacred tools, was quickly losing ground. I watched as the ghost’s struggles grew more intense, and the beads couldn’t restrain her anymore.
I shouted to Jue Chi to hold on for a bit longer and rushed to my room to find another backpack.
This was the one I had prepared in advance when I went out shopping with Chi Rui yesterday, anticipating that Jue Chi, that clueless bald monk, might forget to bring essentials at a critical moment.
Thankfully, my foresight paid off.
I tossed the backpack to Jue Chi and held the copper coin sword ready. As the female ghost broke free from the prayer beads, I thrust the sword into her body.
The ghost froze in place, giving me just enough time to plaster the yellow talisman paper, inscribed with runes, onto her forehead. A burning, acrid stench emanated from her.
Meanwhile, Jue Chi had pulled a Kasaya from the backpack-a treasured item I’d purchased for its claimed blessing in front of the golden statue of Shakyamuni.
Jue Chi unfurled the Kasaya, bit his finger, and quickly smeared his blood onto the cloth.
The Kasaya, infused with the blood of an eminent monk, glowed faintly, as if charged with spiritual energy. Jue Chi threw it over the female ghost in red. She let out a piercing scream and then began to swiftly wither away.
I quickly retrieved the soul-capturing bottle from the bag. The ghost turned into a wisp of white smoke and willingly entered the bottle.
With the female ghost captured, Chi Rui gained recognition in front of my great-grandfather, who hosted a breakfast in his courtyard the following morning.
At the gathering, I was surprised to see Lama Duoren and Chi Hong. Given the chaos they caused, how did they dare show up in front of my great-grandfather?
The events that unfolded next left me on edge.
My great-grandfather removed his sunglasses and looked at me, saying, “Master Gu, I am very grateful to you for the events of yesterday. This meal is to thank you for saving me and for assisting in restoring my eyesight.”
“What… do you mean?”
The sudden revelation left me bewildered. I looked at my great-grandfather and sensed something different about him today.
It wasn’t until I saw his eyes that it hit me-his eyesight had been restored.
But how could this be? Lama Duoren was obviously a con artist who caused the mess Jue Chi and I had to clean up. So why could my great-grandfather see again?
Or was it all a ploy by the Chi Family from the start? Was there never anything wrong with my great-grandfather’s eyes at all?
