Chapter 160
Chapter 160
After Xie Lin and Luo Biyu’s wedding ceremony concluded, the host announced that the banquet would begin. At a gathering of wealthy and powerful families, there was no avoiding guests moving from table to table to socialize. Glasses clinked all around, and the venue was bustling with excitement.
Though Xie Qiyan was the Head of the Xie Family, he had no desire to sit with the Xie Family. With an arm around his wife’s waist, he headed straight for Jiang Baichuan’s table.
Xie Tan happily trotted after them, clutching the stemmed glass she was using for juice.
“Brother Baichuan and Sister Yun Li, when the time comes, will you be my brother and sister-in-law’s best man and bridesmaid?” A year had passed. Xie Tan hadn’t grown much taller, but her features had matured quite a bit. Perhaps she had learned it from Xie Qiyan, because she was becoming more and more direct when she spoke.
Yun Li raised her glass and clinked it against Xie Tan’s, then arched a brow. “Of course, we’re dying to. But you’re focusing on the wrong part of the question. You should be asking when your brother and sister-in-law are holding their wedding.”
Xia Wanzhi laughed despite herself. “You two, honestly.”
They really had to put on a double act just to pry information out of her.
The moment Yun Li saw her expression, she guessed there was already a plan for the wedding. She sat up straight and feigned surprise. “It couldn’t be next month, could it?”
“That soon?” Xie Tan’s eyes widened.
Xia Wanzhi said unhurriedly, “This year.”
“Not set yet?” Jiang Baichuan bumped Xie Qiyan’s shoulder when he heard that.
Xie Qiyan only looked at Xia Wanzhi and smiled. “The plan is still being revised.”
Every night before bed, Xie Qiyan would run through the wedding plan in his mind. But every time he finished sorting it out, a number of new ideas would occur to him, so the plan had been changed again and again.
As for the wedding, he had only discussed with Xia Wanzhi that it would be held this year. For the time being, he had not told Xia Wanzhi about the other complicated details.
Whether during the preparation process or on the day of the wedding itself, he wanted Xia Wanzhi to enjoy it.
Jiang Yourong happened to be wandering back over, and when she heard their conversation, she cut in, “Do you need flower girls? When the time comes, let Zhaozhao and Mumu be your flower girls.”
Jiang Baichuan was displeased. “Zhaozhao and Mumu are reserved for me and your sister-in-law.”
“You haven’t even given Yun Li a betrothal gift yet, and you’re already fantasizing about flower girls at your wedding?” Jiang Yourong provoked him.
Yun Li said, “Ahem…”
“Food still can’t shut that mouth of yours.” From childhood until now, this was the one thing Jiang Baichuan had repeatedly lost to Jiang Yourong on. Complaining bitterly in his heart, he could only raise his glass and call out, “Come on, let’s all have a toast-”
After they finished that glass, Jiang Baichuan secretly took Yun Li’s hand, a smile hidden in his eyes. “After the banquet, should we go straight upstairs?”
Why else would anyone say the Xie Family had chosen such a wonderful wedding venue? It just so happened to make it convenient for him and Yun Li to sneak up to the top-floor suite for a date.
Yun Li glared at him. She didn’t agree, but she didn’t refuse either.
“This is good. Sister Wanzi, try it.” Xie Tan, rarely getting the chance to enjoy a banquet like this, happily spun the lazy Susan for Xia Wanzhi, who was focused on eating.
Xia Wanzhi nodded repeatedly. “Mm-hmm!”
“You two are really…” Yun Li was so exasperated she nearly laughed. “Ambitious.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she happened to look up and catch sight of someone standing not far away, staring straight in their direction. The person was only a few tables away, with several groups of guests between them. Her gaze was intense, yet carried a hint of panic, as though she were watching someone closely.
Sensing Yun Li’s attention, the person hastily withdrew her gaze and prepared to leave.
“Wanzi.” Yun Li motioned for Xia Wanzhi to look over. “Do you know that woman?”
Xia Wanzhi swallowed a mouthful of sparkling wine and looked in the direction Yun Li was pointing. “Who?”
She didn’t see the person’s face. She only noticed a figure leaving in a panic.
Long curly hair, in a lighter shade.
“I didn’t get a clear look.” Xia Wanzhi frowned slightly. “What is it?”
“I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere, but I can’t remember.” Yun Li leaned back against her chair. She clearly felt as if the answer was right on the tip of her tongue, yet she just couldn’t say who that person was.
“Then don’t think about it.” As Xia Wanzhi stood, she smoothly pulled Yun Li up with her. “Bathroom.”
“All right.” Yun Li had been thinking of investigating anyway. When she got up and saw someone approaching Xie Qiyan and Jiang Baichuan to toast them, she simply said nothing and ran off with Xia Wanzhi.
They had just walked out and had not yet stepped into the restroom when someone came charging straight at Xia Wanzhi-
“Xia Wanzhi, please save me. Save my child…”
Xia Wanzhi was shoved back several steps, displeasure on her face.
She did not react too strongly because she had recognized who this person was.
At the side, Yun Li forcefully pushed the woman away. “Who are you?”
“Save you?” Xia Wanzhi steadied herself, her unusually indifferent voice stopping Sun Lingzhi, who had been frantically grabbing at her arm.
Their eyes met, and Xia Wanzhi’s tone was neither warm nor cold. “You have the wrong person, don’t you, Sun Lingzhi?”
Yun Li was bad at recognizing faces, but the moment she heard the name Sun Lingzhi, she understood at once. In one second, she bristled. “And here I was wondering who it was. Turns out it’s Zhou Yu’s little mistress.”
