Chapter 142
Chapter 142
Yun Li had thought that once she finished speaking, she would lose control of her emotions and fly into a rage at any moment. Yet when the final syllable faded, she remained calm from beginning to end.
In her heart, she hated them.
And she would never forgive them.
But her calm in this moment came largely from the fact that she had finally told Jiang Baichuan why she had transferred schools back then, and why she rejected doing that kind of thing.
It was as though the boulder pressing down on her chest had finally been shattered completely.
She had just started to relax when a faint fear rose in her again.
She was afraid of Jiang Baichuan’s reaction.
But when she lifted her eyes slightly, she saw a vicious, murderous intent seem to surge in Jiang Baichuan’s deep gaze.
Yun Li froze for a moment.
If looks could kill, those wicked, unforgivable monsters would have been cut to pieces long ago.
The memory carried him back to that scorching summer day. Jiang Baichuan, who had skipped P.E. class, had hidden under the big tree behind the equipment room and fallen asleep on the ground. By the time he woke up, class was already over. He rose at a leisurely pace and left, but as he passed the entrance of the equipment room, he heard a clatter from inside.
At the time, he had happened to glance up and see Teacher Liu hurriedly looking for someone, so he guessed that the person hiding in the equipment room was probably that nephew of Teacher Liu’s who gave him so many headaches.
Although Jiang Baichuan occasionally skipped class as a student, under normal circumstances, he still carried a bit of respect for teachers in his heart. So out of kindness, he called out, then went over and told Teacher Liu that someone was in the equipment room.
What happened after that, he did not know.
He had not known Yun Li was inside.
He had not known Yun Li was being bullied.
He had passed by, and then he had left…
A wash of red rose at the corners of Jiang Baichuan’s eyes.
“If I…”
Then, all at once, he could not make a sound.
There was no if.
“Jiang Baichuan, thank you.” Tears still clung to Yun Li’s eyes, yet she was the first to wipe his, revealing a faint smile. “I only just remembered that you passed by back then.”
If that voice had not suddenly broken in, Liu Tai would not have stopped tearing at her clothes.
He had called Teacher Liu over, and that was how she had managed to escape.
No wonder, when they met again in Nancheng, she could not help caring about his voice.
So it turned out that once, that voice had pulled her out of an endless hell.
Jiang Baichuan’s pupils seemed a little unfocused. No one knew what he was thinking. Only when he heard Yun Li speak did he lower his eyes to look at her, but his gaze remained just as sharp.
He was thinking of the last time, at Zhaozhao and Mumu’s birthday banquet, when Liu Ye, the homeroom teacher from No. 1 High, had also been there.
He thought of the disgust Yun Li had shown when she saw Liu Ye.
He thought of Liu Ye asking him whether Yun Li was doing well now.
He thought of how, because he had learned that Yun Li had been his classmate in their first year of high school, he had been unable to contain his excitement and had mentioned Liu Ye to her several times.
He thought of how Yun Li had lost her temper with him for no reason back then.
No.
It had not been for no reason…
Jiang Baichuan was filled with unbearable regret.
He deserved to die.
As though she had heard the sound of Jiang Baichuan gritting his teeth and felt the hostility seeping out of him in waves, Yun Li leaned softly against him. “Hold me, Jiang Baichuan.”
His mind had yet to react, but Jiang Baichuan had already pulled her into his arms with his body. When he came back to himself, the arms wrapped around her gradually tightened, as if he wanted to press her into his own body.
“Don’t be afraid,” Jiang Baichuan said. “I’ll get justice for you.”
Yun Li paused. “What?”
Jiang Baichuan took a deep breath and silently forced it down. “Nothing.”
After a while, he said again, “So this is why you don’t like white?”
The topic shifted so quickly that Yun Li was a little surprised he would think of that. But he had guessed correctly. Even so, Yun Li did not want to explain, and answered only with silence.
Jiang Baichuan stroked her long hair, his voice low and deep. “You’re the girl I’ve seen who suits white the best, Student Yun Li. Clean and pure, flawless white.”
The ones who were filthy, rotten, and dirty were those scumbags.
On the table not far away sat a vase, with several white roses arranged inside.
The blossoms were in full bloom, pure and flawless.
Yun Li slowly loosened her grip on Jiang Baichuan’s clothes, and her tense body gradually relaxed.
She heard Jiang Baichuan say,
“I love you. Whether you’re blooming, withering, or fading away, I love you.”
After that day, when Jiang Baichuan sent her flowers again, they were no longer the same lychee rose as always.
Instead, they were flowers of every shape and form, graceful and beautiful, blooming beneath the bitter winter.
His Yun Li was just like those flowers, untouched by even the finest speck of dust.
Nothing could stop her from growing and blooming.
