Chapter 136
Chapter 136
Xia Wanzhi had only been a little ill, yet she received comfort and concern from quite a few people.
Perhaps the injections and medicine had worked, or perhaps she had been surrounded by all that good fortune. Three days later, she was more or less fully recovered.
Yun Li specially wrapped a bouquet of green lisianthus, brimming with health and vitality, and brought it over for Xia Wanzhi. Pinching Xia Wanzhi’s still-plump cheek between her fingers, she laughed. “Not bad. President Xie really knows how to take care of someone.”
Xia Wanzhi only smiled. “He lost weight.”
There was heartache mixed into her smile.
Yun Li opened her mouth, then stopped herself. She put an arm around Xia Wanzhi’s shoulders and sat close beside her. “People glow when good things are coming their way. He’ll be fine again in a few days.”
Xia Wanzhi knew what she meant and felt a little shy for a moment. She immediately changed the subject. “What about you? How have things been with Jiang Baichuan lately?”
Ever since Yun Li had gotten together with Jiang Baichuan, Xia Wanzhi rarely went to the flower shop to help anymore. Jiang Baichuan would be there, and if she went too, she would be completely lacking in tact.
“Pretty good,” Yun Li said succinctly.
Xia Wanzhi stared at her without blinking, but said nothing.
Yun Li: “…”
In the end, unable to withstand Xia Wanzhi’s gaze, Yun Li surrendered and cleared her throat. “Well… his older sister and younger sister have come by the flower shop a few times. They even brought friends to shop.”
Xia Wanzhi’s eyes lit up. “What friends?”
Yun Li could not name them, but she could roughly identify who they were. “The two madams from the Lu Family, the two madams from the Qu Family, and Rongrong.”
Xia Wanzhi gave her a half-smile. “Mm. They’re all acquaintances. Looks like they couldn’t resist coming to see the new daughter-in-law.”
Yun Li: “…”
Xia Wanzhi laughed brightly. “You’re already calling her Rongrong. You’re getting into the role of sister-in-law pretty quickly.”
Yun Li’s face warmed from the teasing. After horsing around with her for a while, she fiercely dragged Xia Wanzhi to the dining table and opened the insulated lunch container she had brought. “Pig lung and snow pear soup. It’s good for your throat. Drink it all.”
Xia Wanzhi’s entire face was written with refusal. She turned her head and tried to leave. “I’m already better…”
“You can drink it even if you’re better. It’s good for your throat.” Yun Li pressed her down into the chair. “Don’t waste my goodwill.”
Only after watching Xia Wanzhi drink nearly a bowl did Yun Li stand up, preparing to leave. “It’s almost time. I’m going to pick up my boyfriend from work. Take your time drinking.”
Xia Wanzhi wrinkled her nose. “Oh? Picking up your boy-friend-”
Yun Li had already walked halfway out, but when she heard that, she turned back and tussled with her for a while. Xia Wanzhi laughed so hard she sucked in cold air and coughed twice more.
“And you still say you’re completely better. Such a stubborn mouth. If you don’t want your fiancé to worry, hurry up and drink more soup to soothe your throat.” Yun Li fixed the hat Xia Wanzhi had tugged crooked, gave her a couple more instructions, then quickly ran off.
Xia Wanzhi pursed her lips. In the end, she picked out the pig lung, closed her eyes, and forced down the remaining snow pear and soup.
Yun Li parked her car downstairs at Jiang Corporation. After sending Jiang Baichuan a message, she put on a song and hummed softly along with it.
Upstairs, inside the chairman’s office, Jiang Baichuan listened to his father speak while repeatedly raising his wrist to check the time.
Jiang Xing glanced at him several times. Thinking he was anxious to get off work and see his girlfriend, he laughed in exasperation. “Look at you. That’s all the backbone you’ve got?”
“Yun Li came to pick me up from work. She’s already waited ten minutes. If you still don’t let me go and she gets angry, are you going to coax her for me?”
Jiang Xing glared and grabbed a pen, throwing it at him. “You little brat…”
Jiang Baichuan laughed, caught the pen steadily, and handed it back to him. “I’ve already come up with a solution for the project, so you don’t need to worry. My girlfriend’s waiting too long. I’m leaving first.”
He walked quickly. Jiang Xing, watching his son’s back disappear like a gust of wind, felt a swell of happiness at the thought that Jiang Baichuan was finally going to settle down too.
Yun Li’s car was black, parked in a spot that didn’t stand out. Jiang Baichuan had trouble finding it at first; he only recognized her when he saw her roll down the window and wave at him.
He had once asked Yun Li why she chose black.
Yun Li’s answer had been only two words-
“It’s convenient.”
Jiang Baichuan hadn’t understood, so she explained that women who drove red or pink cars were usually assumed to be female drivers, and female drivers on the road were more likely to be maliciously cut off or forced out of their lane.
Jiang Baichuan then asked why she didn’t choose white.
Yun Li had stared blankly for a long time before saying white was too clean. Too pure and flawless.
What she hadn’t said aloud was-
It didn’t suit her.
After getting into the car, Jiang Baichuan didn’t hurry to fasten his seat belt. Instead, he leaned over and demanded a kiss before sitting back, breathing a little unevenly.
Yun Li bit her lip and shot him a reproachful look. “Were you reincarnated from a starving ghost?”
Jiang Baichuan chuckled, the sound making his chest tremble faintly. “I missed you.”
“I made pork lung and snow pear soup. Do you want to take it home, or…”
“The hotel,” Jiang Baichuan said without the slightest hesitation.
Yun Li: “…”
Because Xia Wanzhi had only just recovered from her illness, and because Jiang Baichuan had been coughing a little these past two days, Yun Li had taken the day off and closed the shop. She had specifically stayed home to make snow pear soup for soothing the lungs and relieving coughs, then delivered it to both of them.
They were both the most important people in her life. How could she not worry?
She had originally wanted to ask if he wanted to go to the flower shop, but now that she thought about it, the hotel was fine too.
Where they went didn’t matter. What mattered was that she wanted to be with Jiang Baichuan.
Once they arrived at the hotel, Yun Li watched Jiang Baichuan drink the pork lung and snow pear soup. His expression was exactly the same as Xia Wanzhi’s had been, and she finally couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Is it really that bad?”
Jiang Baichuan didn’t dare say it was bad. He swallowed a mouthful with difficulty and explained, “It’s not that what you made tastes bad. It’s the pork lung…”
“No being picky. Good medicine tastes bitter, you know. Just chew and swallow.” Yun Li sat across from him, supervising.
Jiang Baichuan didn’t dare utter a single word of complaint.
There was still half the soup left, and Jiang Baichuan definitely wouldn’t be able to finish it. Yun Li simply moved over and drank with him, muttering as she drank, “It tastes fine to me.”
Jiang Baichuan smiled. “People who don’t eat offal can’t handle this taste. It’s like cilantro. People who like it really like it, and people who don’t can’t even stand the smell.”
Yun Li curled her lip. “But you ate it too, didn’t you?”
Jiang Baichuan had indeed drunk the soup and eaten the pork lung. After finishing what was in his own bowl, he went on to eat Yun Li’s as well. With a perfectly serious expression, he said, “Is this pork lung?”
His voice was warm and pleasing, his tone utterly righteous. “No. This is my girlfriend’s love for me. Her meticulous love. Her overflowing love.”
Yun Li laughed at him. “Quit messing around.”
“I’m not joking. I’m serious.” Jiang Baichuan took her hand, as if negotiating with her. “I’ve accepted your love. So, Boss’s Wife, are you willing to accept mine?”
Yun Li was completely confused. Smiling, she asked, “What?”
No sooner had the word left her mouth than Jiang Baichuan took a ring box out with his right hand. Under Yun Li’s stunned gaze, he removed a pink diamond ring from it.
Before Yun Li could react, he slipped it onto her finger.
Then he went right back to drinking his soup as if nothing had happened.
Yun Li: “…………”
