Chapter 131
Chapter 131
“Necklace?”
“What necklace?”
“How come I don’t know about this?”
A quick search online brought up the Weibo comment Jiang Baichuan had deleted. Xia Wanzhi blinked, looked at Xie Qiyan, and fired off three questions the moment she opened her mouth.
Seeing this, Yu Fei raised an eyebrow and silently turned to leave.
On Jiang Baichuan’s end, the instant he heard Xia Wanzhi’s voice, he blurted out, “Little Sister Xia, congratulations. When you have time, put in a few good words for me…”
Xia Wanzhi looked at Xie Qiyan with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
Xie Qiyan remained perfectly composed. He hung up, took a step forward, and lightly wrapped an arm around Xia Wanzhi’s waist. “Ignore him. I’ll settle this score with him when I have time.”
“Don’t change the subject, Mr. Xie.” Xia Wanzhi gathered the front of his coat with both hands, looked up, and interrogated him. “Where is my necklace?”
“In the safe.” Xie Qiyan leaned down with the motion, chuckling softly. “Your proposal gift.”
Xia Wanzhi arched a brow.
“Jiang Baichuan wants it?” For a moment, Xia Wanzhi couldn’t tell whether Jiang Baichuan’s comment had been a joke or serious.
Xie Qiyan nodded. “He didn’t before. Now that he has a girlfriend, he probably does.”
“Are you going to give it to him?” She figured that if the necklace was given away, it would end up in Yun Li’s hands, so it didn’t seem entirely out of the question.
She had already handled the proposal, and the ring was already on her finger. She wasn’t lacking this one necklace from Xie Qiyan. In any case, neither of them was going anywhere.
Xie Qiyan tightened his arm around her waist and pulled her into him. Xia Wanzhi rose slightly onto her toes and met his deep eyes.
“No.” Xie Qiyan half narrowed his eyes, his voice dipping lower. “Back then, those people from the Lu Family and Qu Family were all fighting over this necklace. I only managed to get it by using a proposal as my reason. It’s a trophy. It belongs only to you.”
Xia Wanzhi was stunned for a moment before she finally understood what Jiang Baichuan had meant in his comment.
By “brothers,” he had meant the other big shots from the Four Great Families.
At that thought, Xia Wanzhi flushed with embarrassment. “Then they all know you were going to pro-”
Xie Qiyan smiled, lifted her with one arm, and carried her over to the sofa to sit down. His breathing rose and fell slightly, his eyes bright and clear. “That’s right. They all know I was going to propose.”
He deliberately emphasized the word “propose.” After saying it, he sighed again and leaned close to Xia Wanzhi’s ear, his voice brimming with laughter. “Jiang Baichuan made such a mess for me. Great. Now everyone knows I didn’t propose, but got proposed to instead.”
Xia Wanzhi was so mortified she wanted to die. She grabbed Xie Qiyan’s clothes and buried her head in his chest. “Just let the world end.”
Great. Now the whole world knew she had no restraint at all and had been desperately impatient to propose to Xie Qiyan.
Meanwhile, Yun Li, who had learned that her boyfriend had done something so stupid, wanted to say something but stopped herself.
“Tell me, how can someone make such a huge mess?”
Jiang Baichuan picked up a flower and handed it to Yun Li, his palm naturally wrapping around her hand. There wasn’t the slightest trace of remorse on his face. “This is fate.”
Yun Li smacked the back of his hand, took the flower, and turned away. “Couldn’t you have said whatever you wanted to say in private? I think you deliberately commented under his post.”
Jiang Baichuan raised an eyebrow slightly. “As expected, my girlfriend understands me best.”
Yun Li froze. She had only said it offhand.
Her steps halted, and she turned back. “What do you mean? You really did it on purpose? You’re playing dirty with Xie Qiyan?”
Jiang Baichuan laughed in exasperation at her wording and crooked a finger, motioning for her to come closer.
The corner of Yun Li’s mouth twitched. In her heart, she cursed him for pulling this trick again, but when she saw him bend down and bring his face closer, her body still tilted up of its own accord, ready to kiss him.
Jiang Baichuan suddenly turned his face back at the last second, and the kiss landed squarely on his lips.
Yun Li: “…”
Having smugly stolen a kiss, Jiang Baichuan smiled with mischievous satisfaction, though there was also a bit of helpless concern for his brother in his expression. “Uncle Xia and Aunt Rose are both going to settle abroad in the future. Agreeing to let Xia Wanzhi stay in Beicheng is one thing. Letting her marry into the Xie Family is another. Aunt Rose is still manageable, but Uncle Xia…”
Xia Yongqing knew even more about the Xie Family’s affairs than Jiang Baichuan did. Although he had agreed to Xia Wanzhi and Xie Qiyan being together, they had been dating for less than half a year and were already talking about marriage. Xia Yongqing would definitely not agree.
Jiang Baichuan sighed softly. “Since the Weibo posts are already public, and most people also know that Mu Xia is Xie Qiyan, then the content of those posts should serve its greatest purpose and be seen by the person who ought to see it.”
Yun Li paused. “You mean…”
“I mean, Xie Qiyan’s sincerity and his feelings, and just how much he loves Xia Wanzhi, should be known to Uncle Xia.”
Whether Xie Qiyan was truly worth entrusting his daughter to would depend on how much Xia Yongqing understood him.
A few Weibo posts wouldn’t be enough to move Xia Yongqing into immediately marrying off his daughter, but at the very least, they let him directly feel just how passionately another man loved his daughter.
In doing this, Jiang Baichuan could be considered to have given Xie Qiyan and Xia Wanzhi a helping hand.
Besides, he really had forgotten to switch to his side account. After posting the comment, he realized he hadn’t switched accounts. He could have deleted it instantly, but once he thought of this aspect of things, he simply went with the flow and waited more than ten minutes before deleting the comment in a very conspicuous attempt to cover it up.
Now that Xie Qiyan’s identity had been exposed just as he wished, Jiang Baichuan was delighted.
At the very least, when Xie Qiyan went to the UK in three days to pay a formal visit and ask for Xia Wanzhi’s hand, there would be a few fewer obstacles in his way.
Seeing Yun Li stare blankly at him, Jiang Baichuan ruffled her hair. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Yun Li pursed her lips around a smile. “You’re actually kind of a good person.”
“Am I? Then has Boss’s Wife fallen for me?” Jiang Baichuan tapped her forehead.
“Fallen for what? You pervert, keep your hands to yourself.” Yun Li glared at him, but she didn’t stop him. She let him lean in and kiss her.
After spending so many days together, Jiang Baichuan had thoroughly figured out Yun Li’s sharp tongue and soft heart. He knew where her limits and bottom line were, and he knew how much she could take.
As long as he didn’t go too far, he could kiss her however he wanted.
Jiang Baichuan was so overflowing with happiness that he had already started thinking about how to handle the complicated matter of his future mother-in-law at the end of the month, so he could bring Yun Li home for New Year and introduce her to his family.
Ever since Jiang Yourong got married, he had become the target at home. Whether the elders were happy or unhappy, they would grab him and nag him a few times, scold him a few times, and jab him hard right in the heart.
The moment he thought about finally turning things around this year, Jiang Baichuan was beside himself with joy.
Having a wife was great. With a wife, a man looked forward to going home, looked forward to New Year, looked forward to the lights in every household, and looked forward to all that warmth and bustle.
