Chapter 111
Chapter 111
“I didn’t even do anything to you. Why would I need to coax you?” Yun Li lowered her lashes. Even with her nerves stretched taut, she still heard him swallow.
There was nowhere left to retreat. Jiang Baichuan’s tall body slowly leaned down, his scorching breath spilling across her cheek. Yun Li’s palms tightened before she could stop herself, her heartbeat thrown into complete chaos.
She turned her head away.
Jiang Baichuan laughed under his breath, lifted her up before she could sink into a crouch, and tucked her into the passenger seat. “I’ll take you home.”
Yun Li was just about to refuse.
Jiang Baichuan fastened her seat belt for her. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
Yun Li: “…”
“Who said I wanted you to pick me up?” But by the time she reacted, it was already too late. Jiang Baichuan had stepped on the gas and was driving toward her home.
Yun Li bit her lip and turned to look out the window.
Jiang Baichuan must have taken her behavior as playing hard to get.
Taking a deep breath, Yun Li digested it on her own and began compromising with herself.
Fine. Let him think she was playing hard to get.
She had never really thrown a tantrum before. When she was little, the slightest bit of willfulness would earn criticism from her parents. Later, after they divorced, she had even less right to be willful, and Yun Meilan never gave her the chance to be petulant.
She was twenty-seven, and this was the first time she could be completely unrestrained in front of someone.
Because of certain experiences, she had never liked anyone.
She had thought she would never have love. She had once sworn that she would never believe in something as hypocritical as love.
But then someone appeared, and all the things she had once believed dissolved like smoke.
The night was deep. A black Maybach sat parked downstairs in her residential compound for nearly ten minutes.
“Boss’s Wife, just take pity on me.” Jiang Baichuan felt wronged. He could clearly sense what she was trying to express, but she just had not said it clearly.
His heart was itching. He could not let Yun Li out of the car.
The doors were locked. Yun Li glared at him irritably. “You’re forcing my hand! Forcing someone like this isn’t okay.”
“Forced love is still love.” Jiang Baichuan loved the way she looked when she got huffy and glared, and he loved the sound of her voice. Even if he could not get what he wanted tonight, he would be satisfied just hearing her talk a little longer.
Yun Li was both embarrassed and angry. “Who said anything about love with you?”
Jiang Baichuan laughed aloud, knowing he should stop while he was ahead. “Don’t be mad. Let’s talk for five more minutes. After that, I’ll let you go.”
Yun Li asked uneasily, “Talk about what?”
“About what I like about you.” Jiang Baichuan answered without thinking and turned off the engine.
Yun Li glared at him again.
Jiang Baichuan was more than happy to see her act so boldly in front of him. She looked so gentle, and even when she glared, she was not fierce. If anything, it only made her more charming.
Yun Li said nothing, so he took it as her wanting to listen. He immediately put on a serious, affectionate air. “Putting aside the fate we had back in high school, let’s start from the first time we met in Nancheng, when you sprayed anti-assault spray all over my face. From then on, you were deeply imprinted right here.”
He pointed at his head, then at his heart. “After I returned to Beicheng, I kept thinking about you. I kept wondering whose girl you were, barging into my heart without permission and making me think about you day and night.”
Yun Li looked at him in disdain. “Is your brain okay?”
Jiang Baichuan: “…”
He knew this routine would not work.
What a terrible move Jiang Yourong had come up with.
Abandoning the long speech, Jiang Baichuan tugged at his tie. “No, it’s not okay. I’ve been thinking about you too much.”
Yun Li burst out laughing.
“Jiang Yourong taught me those sappy lines, but they really are what I feel.” Jiang Baichuan coughed lightly. After all, this was his first time pursuing a girl. There were many ways in which he was not thoughtful enough, but luckily, he was good with words. “Yun Li, whether or not you believe in love at first sight, what I feel for you is-”
“Lust at first sight. I know.” Yun Li tried hard to hold back her laughter, forcing down the corners of her mouth that kept wanting to rise. She looked sideways at his awkward expression. “I believe you.”
She believed in his love at first sight, and she believed in his feelings for her.
Jiang Baichuan’s Adam’s apple shifted slightly. “If you’re going to call it lust at first sight, then I might stop holding back and get a little shameless…”
Startled, Yun Li leaned over and covered his mouth with her hand, glaring fiercely at him. “Don’t even think about it.”
Jiang Baichuan raised a brow. With a soft laugh, he took her hand down and gave it a squeeze. “I’m kidding. As long as you don’t nod, I won’t cross the line.”
Just like earlier, when he clearly could have shamelessly kissed her hand.
Yun Li huffed. “Open the door. I’m going upstairs.”
If she stayed any longer, who knew what else he would say?
This time, Jiang Baichuan did as she said. Only after watching her jog inside did he slowly put away the smile on his face.
His phone vibrated once. It was a message from Yun Li, and Jiang Baichuan’s breathing quickened slightly.
Yun Li: [Come to my shop tomorrow. I have something for you.]
Jiang Baichuan relaxed back against his seat, a smile slowly spreading into his eyes.
Upstairs, the light in Yun Li’s room came on. He lowered the car window so he could see more clearly.
Before long, a head popped out from behind the window.
Through the night, their eyes met.
Their breathing stilled, and their heartbeats stumbled out of rhythm.
Ten minutes later, Jiang Baichuan finally managed to leave. Yun Li was delighted inside when she saw Jiang Baichuan’s reply.
Jiang Baichuan: [Perfect. I have something for you too.]
Yun Li refused: [No. You’ve already given me enough things.]
Jiang Baichuan was driving, so he replied with a voice message: [If I’m giving you myself, you don’t want that either?]
When Yun Li heard the voice message, heat rushed into her face.
This man…
He was so shameless.
No wonder he and Xie Qiyan could become such good brothers.
Yun Li did not reply. She gathered some clothes and prepared to take a shower.
Outside in the living room, Yun Meilan sat on the sofa with a stern face. Her lukewarm voice drifted over. “The person who brought you home-is he the rich second-generation heir you mentioned?”
Yun Li’s steps paused slightly, and her tone was mild. “More than that, I think. A century-old family with deep roots. He should be a rich fifth-, sixth-, seventh-, or eighth-generation heir.”
Yun Meilan clutched her chest. “…”
