Six Years Later: Wrecking His World with Quadruplets - Chapter 185
Chapter 185
After entering the house, Nan Wanyue donned her mask of gentleness and sensibility once more. Seeing Song Liqin, she stepped forward to express her concern.
“Auntie, I haven’t seen you in a few days, and you’ve lost quite a bit of weight. Have you not been resting well lately?”
Seeing Nan Wanyue’s appearance, Song Liqin felt as if she had found a confidante. Suppressing the resentment in her heart, she said, “I’m being watched every day and forced to learn all sorts of social etiquette like a prisoner. How could I not lose weight?”
Upon hearing this, a trace of gloom appeared on Nan Wanyue’s face, her tone carrying a hint of shared suffering.
“It seems you and I are in the same boat, Auntie. Every day is such an ordeal…”
She deliberately lowered her voice, making herself sound deeply aggrieved.
Seeing her like this, Song Liqin couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Nan Wanyue shook her head with a faint smile, hesitating as if she didn’t want to mention it. “Auntie, you already have enough headaches here. I won’t bother you with my troubles.”
The more she acted this way, the more curious Song Liqin became. After a moment’s thought, she had a rough idea of what was going on.
She asked coldly, “Tell me honestly, is that Nan Zhiyi up to her old tricks again?”
Nan Wanyue hesitated for a moment before nodding. She proceeded to tell Song Liqin everything that had happened at the company recently.
Naturally, the story coming from her mouth was heavily embellished.
Towards the end, Nan Wanyue looked as if she were about to burst into tears, appearing exceptionally wronged. “Now, everyone thinks that Zhiyi is about to become the Young Mistress of the Di Family. Not only has she made Jing look at her in a new light and got Grandpa Di to protect her, but even Wanwan and Hengheng are completely submissive to her…”
“What a joke!”
Song Liqin was furious. She slammed her hand on the table and stood up. “How is Nan Zhiyi worthy of being recognized by my two grandchildren? And what right does she have to be the Young Mistress of the Di Family? This is outrageous! She’s really overstepping her bounds…”
Nan Wanyue quietly observed Song Liqin’s emotional state, maintaining her heartbroken expression. “Auntie, it’s all because I’m useless. I don’t have the ability to win Jing’s favor, nor can I get the children to like me. I’m afraid I’m going to let down the expectations you’ve always had for me…”
As she spoke, tears began to fall. Her acting was flawless.
Song Liqin was completely deceived. Seeing her cry so bitterly, she hurried to comfort her. “Don’t cry. This isn’t your fault. It’s just that Nan Zhiyi’s methods are too cunning. I really underestimated her!”
By the time she finished, she was speaking through gritted teeth.
Nan Zhiyi had no idea that Nan Wanyue had gone to the Di Family Mansion to put on a performance.
At that moment, she had just arrived at the restaurant with Di Shijing and the others. For no apparent reason, she suddenly felt a chill.
Di Shijing noticed the subtle movement and asked, “Cold?”
“Yeah, maybe the air conditioning in the private room is set too low,” Nan Zhiyi explained.
Xianxian, who was sitting nearby, immediately grabbed the remote control. He said sensibly to Nan Zhiyi, “Pretty Auntie, I’ll turn it up for you!”
“Thank you.”
Nan Zhiyi patted his small face.
Di Shijing handed her the menu. “See what you want to eat.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded and began ordering.
She very naturally ordered dishes that her son and daughter liked.
Di Shijing, glancing at the selection from the side, was secretly surprised.
Why did Nan Zhiyi know the tastes of the two children so well?
Suspicion rose in Di Shijing’s heart. He fixed a scrutinizing gaze on the woman beside him, seemingly trying to find an answer from her.
Xianxian noticed his daddy looking at his mommy and then looked at the dishes she had ordered. His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly spoke up to provide a distraction. “Pretty Auntie, how do you know we like to eat these things? You’re so amazing!”
Nan Zhiyi was startled by Xianxian’s words as she realized her slip-up.
She quickly explained, “Sorry, the two little ones at my house happen to have the same taste in food. I just ordered what they liked out of habit. Should we re-order?”
As she spoke, her gaze drifted toward Di Shijing.
Her heart was pounding with trepidation, terrified that he might have noticed something.
Di Shijing nodded in realization. “There’s no need. It just so happens that they love these dishes too… Still, this is quite a coincidence.”
He met Nan Zhiyi’s eyes, his gaze so sharp it felt as if he were trying to see right through her.
Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but quietly clench her fists.
Xianxian quickly jumped in to smooth things over. “It really is a coincidence! I didn’t expect Pretty Auntie’s children to like the same things we do!”
Nan Zhiyi gave a forced laugh and said, “Perhaps children’s tastes are just similar.”
“Pretty Auntie has a point!” Xianxian nodded.
The mother and son played off each other perfectly, barely managing to bluff their way through.
Soon, all the dishes were served. To avoid slipping up again, Nan Zhiyi ate in silence, doing her best to avoid speaking.
Di Shijing didn’t eat much himself. Throughout the meal, he focused on peeling shrimp for Xianxian and didn’t neglect Mumu either, occasionally deboning fish and placing it in his daughter’s bowl.
Nan Zhiyi knew that Wanwan couldn’t eat seafood, but the allergy was specifically to shellfish. Fish and the like were perfectly fine.
Eating this meal together allowed Nan Zhiyi to discover a more attentive side to Di Shijing.
Yet, resentment still simmered in her heart.
This man was playing the role of a father quite convincingly now, but hadn’t he been full of nothing but disdain back then?
No matter how good or attentive he was to the children now, he was still the one who had snatched them away from her.
This was not something that could be easily forgiven!
Nan Zhiyi told herself she couldn’t let the tenderness he was showing now sway her or make her feel any pity for him.
Unaware of Nan Zhiyi’s inner turmoil, Di Shijing finished peeling the shrimp for his son and then peeled a crab for Nan Zhiyi.
When the whole piece of crab meat appeared in her bowl, Nan Zhiyi’s mind went blank for a moment.
“I… I can do it myself,” she said, flustered.
However, the man ignored her protest and simply said indifferently, “Eat more.”
The two little ones beside them watched the interaction closely. Following their father’s lead, they began frantically piling food into Nan Zhiyi’s bowl.
“Pretty Auntie, please eat more. You work so hard every day.”
“You have to eat meat. You only have the strength to work if you eat meat!”
“Health is the foundation of everything! Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll get it for you!”
The two little ones were exceptionally enthusiastic. Since Mumu couldn’t speak, Xianxian did all the talking for both of them.
Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but smile.
The group finished their meal in a harmonious atmosphere.
After dinner, Di Shijing originally intended to take the children back home.
However, he suddenly received a call from his mother.
Nan Zhiyi didn’t know who was on the other end, but she saw the man say coldly, “I’m busy,” before hanging up.
After leaving the restaurant, Di Shijing didn’t seem to be in a hurry to return. He leaned down and asked the two little ones, “Do you want to go for a walk to help your digestion?”
“Yes!” Xianxian replied without hesitation, and Mumu beside him looked equally expectant.
After answering, the two little rascals turned around and grabbed Nan Zhiyi’s hands. “Pretty Auntie, let’s go for a walk together!”
“Alright.”
Nan Zhiyi naturally wouldn’t refuse.
Soon, Zhou Yi drove them to the Riverside. The river breeze was slightly cool, feeling incredibly refreshing as it brushed against them.
When they got out of the car, the area was quite crowded.
Zhou Yi had looked up the location before coming and spoke up immediately. “There is a Fireworks Festival here at the Riverbank every week, and there happens to be one tonight. Master, Miss Zhiyi, you can find a high vantage point to watch it with the Young Master and Young Miss.”
