Chapter 153
Chapter 153
His gaze followed her the entire time.
When Nan Zhiyi returned, she felt a surge of nervousness seeing the man still staring at her.
Why is he still looking?
Afraid he might continue the previous topic, she quickly changed the subject. “Do you want to lie down and rest for a bit? Even though this sofa is small and narrow for you, it’ll be more comfortable than leaning there.”
“No need. I’m not sleepy. You should sleep.”
Di Shijing refused directly and picked up his tablet.
Seeing that he still had work to do, Nan Zhiyi didn’t say anything more.
It wasn’t until seven in the morning that Di Shijing finally put down the tablet, his face etched with exhaustion.
Staying up all night would take its toll on anyone.
Old Master Nan came over from the family lounge. Seeing the two young people, he couldn’t help but say, “You two worked hard last night.”
A while later, there was a knock on the ward door. It was the butler, sent by Old Master Di with breakfast.
After they ate, Old Master Nan told the two of them to go back and rest.
Nan Zhiyi looked at her grandmother on the bed, feeling a bit uneasy. “If we leave, who will come to look after her later? The others from the Nan Family?”
She didn’t want them to come and provoke her grandmother into another medical emergency.
Old Master Nan smiled and reassured her, “Jincheng is coming today. He only treated you that way before because his parents told him to; he won’t do anything to upset your grandmother.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded upon hearing her grandfather’s words.
However, her impression of Nan Jincheng remained unchanged. She simply replied, “Then I’ll come back to see you both later.”
“Alright.”
The Old Master was naturally overjoyed. He then instructed Di Shijing, “Jing, please take Zhiyi back!”
“Okay,” Di Shijing agreed readily.
Soon, the two of them left the ward.
Old Master Nan watched their retreating figures and couldn’t help but say to the Old Madam on the bed, “Jing and our Zhiyi are such a good match. It would be wonderful if they could reconcile.”
Hearing this, the Old Madam recalled the scene she had witnessed the previous night and agreed. “Isn’t that the truth? Our granddaughter has such grace; she’s more than a match for Jing… On the other hand, there’s Nan Wanyue. She was raised in our home since she was a child, but for some reason, she always seems a bit petty and lacks class. Standing next to Jing, she always feels like she’s lacking something.”
…
When Nan Zhiyi and Di Shijing left, Zhou Yi was there to pick them up.
On the way back, Nan Zhiyi remembered the incident where she had been set up and took the opportunity to ask, “How is the investigation into the surveillance footage going? Any leads?”
Zhou Yi hesitated for a moment, choosing his words carefully. “We haven’t confirmed the true identity yet. The person was bundled up too tightly. We’ve checked the footage from all angles, but we couldn’t see their face clearly. The only thing we know is that the person is female.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded, not suspecting anything.
However, Di Shijing did not miss the subtle micro-expression on Zhou Yi’s face.
He narrowed his eyes but didn’t call him out.
Once they dropped Nan Zhiyi off at Luyuan, Di Shijing finally asked Zhou Yi, “Have you found out that person’s identity?”
“I have.”
In front of Di Shijing, Zhou Yi no longer hid the truth. He said, “It’s Miss Xu from the Human Resources department.”
Di Shijing thought for a moment and asked, “Who is that?”
There were too many employees in the Di Group for him to know everyone.
Zhou Yi quickly shook his head. “Just an ordinary employee.”
Di Shijing frowned and asked again, “Does she have a grudge against Nan Zhiyi?”
Zhou Yi shook his head. “Probably not. Miss Zhiyi has only been at the Di Corporation for a few days and hasn’t had any interaction with her at all. It’s highly likely they didn’t know each other before. However…”
At this point, Zhou Yi’s voice trailed off, as if he were hesitating over something.
Di Shijing said, “However what? If you have something to say, say it!”
Zhou Yi didn’t dare delay any longer and said directly, “This Miss Xu knows Nan Wanyue.”
At the mention of that name, Di Shijing’s eyes darkened.
Zhou Yi reported honestly, “When this Miss Xu first joined the company, she was being given a hard time and nearly lost her job. It was Director Nan who stepped in and helped resolve the issue. However, Director Nan hasn’t been particularly close with Miss Xu since then… though Miss Xu does send Director Nan gifts during the holidays.”
Di Shijing narrowed his eyes. “Are you suggesting that this Miss Xu is working for Nan Wanyue?”
His tone was flat as he spoke, but Zhou Yi could already hear the prelude to a storm. He quickly replied, “We can’t rule out the possibility, but we don’t have any concrete evidence yet.”
After hearing this, the aura surrounding Di Shijing grew even colder.
The interior of the car fell into a sudden, heavy silence.
Zhou Yi drove with bated breath, not daring to make a sound. He could feel his Master’s growing displeasure. A quick glance through the rearview mirror confirmed it-that handsome face was now so cold it looked as if it were carved from ice.
Di Shijing was indeed in a foul mood.
Over the years, Nan Wanyue had taken advantage of Song Liqin’s favor to covertly win over numerous employees within the Di Corporation. Di Shijing was usually too busy with work to notice, and frankly, he hadn’t cared enough to intervene.
But now, someone actually dared to stir up trouble right under his nose and even plotted against Nan Zhiyi!
“Go to the company. Bring her in for questioning.”
Di Shijing’s voice was icy; he was clearly incensed.
“Yes, Master.”
Zhou Yi knew his Master intended to seek justice for Nan Zhiyi. Without a moment’s hesitation, he swung the car around and headed toward the company.
Twenty minutes later, the two arrived at the Di Corporation. Zhou Yi immediately sent word to summon Miss Xu.
In the President’s Office on the top floor.
Miss Xu had never been to the President’s Office before. Being suddenly called there left her feeling extremely anxious. The moment she stepped through the door and saw the President’s frigid expression and the oppressive aura radiating from him, her fear intensified.
Her heart trembling, she walked in with her head bowed and offered a respectful greeting. “President, you asked for me?”
Di Shijing didn’t waste time with pleasantries. He asked directly, “What were you doing in the R&D Department around eight o’clock a few nights ago? Do you remember?”
Miss Xu hadn’t expected to be questioned about this. Her face instantly turned two shades paler. She stole a glance at Di Shijing, only to find his gaze filled with an overwhelming, crushing pressure.
Struggling under the weight of his stare, she stammered, “President… I… I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Di Shijing was far from satisfied with that answer. His expression grew even colder, and the sense of intimidation and pressure he exerted became even more intense.
Zhou Yi knew his Master’s temperament well. Knowing he had little patience and seeing that Miss Xu was still being dishonest, he immediately barked a reprimand.
“The company has internal surveillance. Even though you were wearing a disguise, you removed it two streets away after leaving the building. The surveillance footage is all right here. What else do you have to say for yourself?”
Zhou Yi opened the laptop on the desk to show the surveillance footage. The recording captured everything, from Miss Xu’s suspicious movements inside the company to her eventual departure.
By the time the video reached the end, Miss Xu’s face was as white as paper, and her entire body was shaking with terror.
Di Shijing spoke with a chilling edge to his voice. “I will give you one more chance. Did you do this on your own, or were you acting on someone else’s orders?”
With things having reached this point, Miss Xu knew she couldn’t lie her way out of it. Not daring to hide the truth any longer, she cried out, “P-President, I was wrong… I-I did it myself. No one told me to do it.”
