seven-year itch - Chapter 14
As she spoke, I had already torn Jiang Wan’s nightgown apart.
The moment her fair skin was exposed to the air, she slapped me hard across the face.
“Slap!”
My head tilted to the side from the force of her slap.
I froze for a moment.
By the time I came to my senses, Jiang Wan had already picked up the kitchen knife beside her.
The tip of the blade was aimed directly at my lower body.
Her hair was disheveled, and her smile was like that of a ghost.
“Gu Ming, do you think you’re worthy of mentioning divorce?”
“What right do you have to talk about divorce?”
“Do you think I don’t want to divorce you? I’ve wanted to divorce you for ages! Spending even one more second with you makes me sick!”
“But I won’t divorce you-not if you’re the one bringing it up!”
Looking at Jiang Wan, her bloodshot eyes wildly swinging the knife, I suddenly recalled the moment I first discovered that pair of lace panties.
She had been so calm, not yelling or making a scene.
She had simply asked me to fire Zhou Qing.
Later, during the camping trip, Zhou Qing called me.
She was still calm.
She even reminded me, expressionless, not to let our daughter find out.
Back then, I thought Jiang Wan was afraid to argue with me.
I thought she feared losing me.
So she kept swallowing her pride and compromising.
But now, she had slapped me fiercely.
And she was screaming at me hysterically.
It was only then that I realized.
She wasn’t afraid of losing me.
She simply didn’t care enough to argue with me.
She just found me disgusting. I wasn’t worth stirring her emotions.
Outside the kitchen, Huanhuan was frightened by the commotion and started crying.
She banged on the door.
Over and over, she called out, “Mommy.” “Mommy.”
Our daughter’s cries brought both of us back to our senses.
I opened the door.
Huanhuan stood at the doorway, her face streaked with tears.
I reached out, wanting to comfort her with a hug.
But Huanhuan pushed me away and ran straight into Jiang Wan’s arms.
“Mommy, don’t cry.”
“Daddy was mean to Mommy. Huanhuan doesn’t want Daddy.”
My heart sank abruptly.
I could hardly believe my ears.
I looked at Huanhuan, my breathing quickened.
“Huanhuan, what did you say?”
Huanhuan, nestled in Jiang Wan’s arms, looked at me with tear-filled eyes, unwavering in her resolve.
“Daddy was mean to Mommy. I don’t want Daddy!”
“I only want Mommy!”
Jiang Wan suddenly laughed.
She put down the knife and picked up Huanhuan.
Gently wiping away the tears on Huanhuan’s little face, she comforted her softly.
“Huanhuan, be good. Mommy only wants you too.”
