Reborn in the 80s: Divorced and Spoiled by the Military Man - Chapter 153
Chapter 153: Drag Them Off in Cement Bags!
The men working at the Construction Site were not necessarily all broad-shouldered and thick-waisted, but they certainly looked fierce and intimidating. Especially when such a crowd of big, burly men stared down at the three of them from above, Li Dayong nearly wet his pants on the spot.
Li Shengli had just finished eating too. He had originally planned to ask Xie Yunshu about a few numbers on the blueprints, but when he could not find her, he casually asked around and learned that someone was making trouble outside the Construction Site-and that the troublemakers had come for Xie Yunshu.
Someone was bullying their technician? The brothers had to show up!
At home, Li Shenggen was a man whose word was law. Outside, however, he did not have much capability at all. His old bones were already going a little weak with fright, but for the sake of his eldest grandson getting into university, he still stiffened his neck and repeated the same line from before: “I am Xie Yunshu’s maternal grandfather. If she is unfilial to her elders, she will suffer retribution!”
Maternal grandfather and grandmother?
Li Shengli narrowed his eyes and asked Xie Yunshu, “Yunshu Little Sister, is what he’s saying true?”
Xie Yunshu pressed her lips together. This kind of humiliating matter was not something she wanted outsiders to know. But if the matter was not resolved, since they dared to come and make a scene the first time, they would dare to come and make a scene a second time. Besides, although she and Li Shengli were friends, these three people were indeed her own relatives.
No matter who heard it, they would all think she was an unfilial ingrate, wouldn’t they?
But before she could say anything, another person hurriedly rushed out from the crowd. Ji Siyuan really was like a big wolfhound, pouncing over in an instant and shielding Xie Yunshu behind him. “What are you three doing? How dare you bully Xie Yunshu right in front of me?”
Li Shenggen had not expected that so many people would help Xie Yunshu. But so what? No matter how they argued it, he was still Xie Yunshu’s real maternal grandfather!
Once he thought this through, Li Shenggen instead found his confidence. He straightened up, stared at Xie Yunshu, and sneered. “Perfect. Let all these friends of yours see exactly what kind of person you are! You took a kitchen knife to your own maternal grandfather and grandmother, got divorced because no man wanted you, and even went into the Mental Hospital…”
In front of so many people, he did not hesitate to tear away every last scrap of his own granddaughter’s dignity. He wanted to make her too ashamed to show her face. He wanted her to understand that there had never been any principle under heaven that allowed a junior to defy an elder!
Li Shengli and Ji Siyuan were both stunned for a moment. Divorce, the Mental Hospital, attacking her elders with a kitchen knife-each accusation sounded impossible to connect with the lively, beautiful young woman in front of them. Yet Xie Yunshu did not deny a single word.
Xie Yunshu closed her eyes. For one fleeting instant, she felt as though she were standing naked in the middle of the crowd, exposed to everyone’s scrutiny and ridicule.
She did not regret a single thing she had done after waking from that long dream. Everything Li Shenggen said was true. She had no way to refute it, and she did not want to explain herself. Such a twisted and complicated story-no one would have the patience to listen to it all.
Friends? Who would want a friend like her?
Ji Siyuan moved his lips, but he did not step away from Xie Yunshu. “Stop spouting nonsense!”
Li Shengli also came back to his senses and instinctively glanced at Xie Yunshu. “Yunshu Little Sister…”
Xie Yunshu’s face was pale, but she still stood ramrod straight, without the slightest intention of avoiding anyone’s gaze. She looked at Li Shenggen and the other two, then suddenly laughed. “It doesn’t matter if I don’t do this business. Since I won’t have an easy time, then no one gets to live! Let’s see whether your precious grandson’s life is tougher, or mine is!”
Li Shenggen had not expected that even now, she would still dare to say such vicious words. Did she think all these people would take her side?
Would the men around her really be friends with someone who had been sent to the Mental Hospital, a divorced woman at that? And that pretty boy beside her-he was probably disgusted by her already!
Li Dayong threatened her, though he clearly lacked confidence. “Xie Yunshu, stop trying to scare people. I’m your own uncle. You wouldn’t actually dare hit me, would you?!”
The words had barely left his mouth when a cement sack dropped from above.
With a wave of his big hand, Li Shengli barked, “Brothers, someone’s making trouble at our Construction Site. Bag them all up and take them to the gatehouse! I don’t care if he’s her eldest uncle or second uncle-anyone who bullies Yunshu Little Sister, I’ll turn him into a smashed liquor bottle!”
The old couple, Li Shenggen and his wife, jumped in fright. “What are you doing-”
They didn’t get to finish either. Qiangzi moved swiftly, pulling a sack over each of them. “Off you go!”
“Mmph! Mmph! Mmph!”
In the blink of an eye, all three had been stuffed inside. Ji Siyuan began dispersing the crowd. “All right, nothing to see here. Three lunatics causing trouble. What’s so interesting about that?”
Xie Yunshu was still standing there in a daze. They…
Ji Siyuan grabbed her hand. “What are you standing around for? They’ve already been hauled off to the Dark Room. Aren’t you going over to kick them a couple times and vent?”
Xie Yunshu looked at him quietly. “Everything they said was true.”
Ji Siyuan pulled her along after Li Shengli toward the gatehouse. “So what if it’s true? They’re the ones who deserve it. What’s it got to do with you? You’re usually so fierce. Did you save it all just to bully me?”
Xie Yunshu’s lashes trembled. “Besides chicken stewed with potatoes, what else do you want to eat?”
Ji Siyuan curled his lip. “Anything Shen Subai doesn’t like, I like.”
Xie Yunshu: “…”
A group of burly men carried three writhing cement sacks, followed by a handsome young man with red lips and white teeth and a pretty little girl. No matter how one looked at it, the scene was more than a little bizarre.
The onlookers around them exchanged glances for a long while. In the end, finding it dull, they rubbed their noses and dispersed. The new canteen owner looked like someone not to be trifled with. Grandfather, grandmother, eldest uncle-so what? Hadn’t they all been stuffed into sacks now?
Served them right. Being old didn’t mean they could spout nonsense!
Behind the gatehouse was a small storeroom used as a Dark Room. Li Shenggen and the other two were thrown down, then crawled out of the cement sacks covered in dust. Before they could say anything, they broke into a violent coughing fit. Only after that did they point trembling fingers at Xie Yunshu and curse, “You unfilial girl! Unfilial girl! You dare lay hands on your own grandparents!”
Li Shengli flashed him a toothy grin. “Old man, I’m the one who laid hands on you. What are you going to do about it?”
Ji Siyuan lounged behind Xie Yunshu. “And me too. Hit me if you’ve got the guts.”
One was a fierce-looking brute, the other a grinning delinquent. Li Shenggen and the other two were so furious they nearly rolled their eyes back.
“Xie Yunshu, you little wretch, are you trying to rebel against heaven itself? I’m going to the Police Station and have them arrest all of you! You bunch of bastards…” Li Dayong was, after all, a middle-aged man, and now his attitude hardened. “If you don’t give me money, I’ll come here and make trouble every single day!”
Not far away, someone was striding toward them.
Shen Subai’s black trench coat flared high behind him. Though it was only early spring, beads of sweat dotted his temples. Several uniformed officers followed at his back as he headed straight for the gatehouse.
Li Dayong instantly looked as if he had seen his savior and shouted with all his might, “Help, Comrade Police! They’re going to beat us to death! Hurry and arrest them all, especially that little wretch! She even hit her own elders! Arrest her!”
Everyone looked over. Shen Subai’s expression was cold and severe as he stopped just outside the door, his voice edged with hostility. “Captain Zhang, take them all away.”
