Reborn in the 80s: Divorced and Spoiled by the Military Man - Chapter 139
Chapter 139: Lu Zhixing, Get Lost!
After more than half a month without seeing him, Lu Zhixing seemed much colder and harsher than before. He did not wait for the woman behind him. His expression carried a trace of impatience. “For someone without a diploma, being able to work here as a cleaner is already pretty good.”
Zhou Xinyue clenched her teeth. “Brother Zhixing, I’m just afraid I won’t do a good job.”
Lu Zhixing turned back and looked at her coldly. “Yunshu is a regular employee, and even she can lower herself to sell Boxed Meal. You can’t even handle cleaning?”
Zhou Xinyue’s face went pale. She had nowhere to go now. Aside from acting pitiful and weak, she had no other options.
For Xiaowei’s sake, Lu Zhixing only gave her ten yuan a month. Forget buying pretty clothes-she even had to think carefully about what was cheapest when it came to eating.
“Brother Zhixing, don’t be angry. I’ll try my best.” Zhou Xinyue tentatively placed her hand on Lu Zhixing’s arm and lowered her head. “I know I can’t compare to Yunshu, but I’m already trying to change. Please don’t abandon me…”
Her show of weakness worked as expected. Lu Zhixing slowed his steps. He did not remove Zhou Xinyue’s hand, only said mildly, “My divorce from Yunshu was a last resort. In the future, we’ll still be together. I’ll help you from now on, but it won’t be like before.”
After saying that, he turned back-only to see a familiar figure.
“Yunshu!” Lu Zhixing quickened his pace. Only then did he shake off Zhou Xinyue’s hand. His eyes were full of surprise and delight. “Why are you here?”
Before the light in his eyes had faded, he saw Shen Subai beside Xie Yunshu, and his face immediately darkened. “Why are you two together?”
Xie Yunshu spat, “Bad luck. Get the hell away from me!”
Lu Zhixing grabbed her bicycle, his voice softening. “Yunshu, Xinyue and I have been sleeping in separate beds all this time. I’ll prove to you that there was nothing between us before. We were completely innocent.”
Confusion flickered in Shen Subai’s eyes. “Didn’t you two get married even though you weren’t sleeping together? So that’s what you call innocent. As expected of someone who studied abroad. Your way of thinking really is completely different from us normal people.”
Lu Zhixing was so provoked by those words that he wanted to hit him. “Shen Subai, what exactly are you trying to do? You know perfectly well there’s no chance for you, yet you keep clinging to her. You’ll only bring her new pain!”
The Shen Family of Jingbei and Yunshu were worlds apart in status. There was absolutely, utterly no possibility between them!
Xie Yunshu had not wanted to bother with Lu Zhixing at first, but he actually dared to smear Captain Shen. That, she could not tolerate.
“Lu Zhixing, don’t make me want to slap you every time you show up!” Xie Yunshu stepped in front of Shen Subai, shielding him behind her. “Captain Shen and I are the ones who are completely innocent. Just because you’re trash doesn’t mean everyone else is like you!”
Lu Zhixing could not stand the sight of her protecting Shen Subai. He growled, “He has ulterior motives toward you! His family background will never allow him to marry a divorced woman. He just wants to play around with you without taking responsibility. Can you wake up? There’s no way you two can be together!”
After he finished, his voice slowly softened, as if all the fight had gone out of him. “Yunshu, back then, I married you sincerely. Now, I sincerely want to remarry you too. Your family background doesn’t matter. Your mother and younger brother-I can support them as well. No other man can do that for you.”
Xie Yunshu found this man more ridiculous by the second. He claimed her family background did not matter, yet he had never been willing to go to the communal apartment block. He could not even bring himself to call her mother “Mom.” How did he have the nerve to say something like this?
Shen Subai gently reminded him, “Dr. Lu, I’m afraid your salary can’t support that many people.”
Lu Zhixing’s breath caught. Thinking of what he had done, he closed his eyes in pain. “In the end, it’s still about money. Yunshu, if you care about money, I can change. I’ll give you my salary card and bonuses to hold…”
Even now, he still thought she cared because of money.
Xie Yunshu went up and kicked Lu Zhixing. “You mangy dog. Get lost!”
Her hands were itching. She still wanted to fight.
Zhou Xinyue hurried up from behind to support Lu Zhixing, her expression miserable. “Yunshu, I know this is because of me. I swear I’ll give Brother Zhixing back to you. Is that enough?”
Xie Yunshu kicked her too. “You get lost as well!”
With that, she pushed her bicycle and left, never seeing Zhou Xinyue bend over in pain behind her, her eyes like a snake lurking in the dark as she stared at Xie Yunshu’s retreating back.
But Shen Subai seemed to sense something. He turned around, his cool gaze sliding over the two of them before finally settling on Zhou Xinyue.
Zhou Xinyue was startled and quickly withdrew her gaze. Given the current situation, Xiaowei no longer had any value to her. Instead, he had become a burden. She might as well use him to bring Xie Yunshu down.
If she lost the child because of Xie Yunshu…
At that thought, Zhou Xinyue furrowed her brow in pain. “Brother Zhixing, Yunshu kicked me a little too hard just now. My lower back still hurts.”
Lu Zhixing’s fists tightened. He didn’t approve of Xie Yunshu resorting to violence again and again. He knew Yunshu had grown up in that kind of environment, so naturally she couldn’t be as gentle and virtuous as a proper young lady.
After they remarried, he would slowly correct these flaws of hers, but he would also treat her better than he had before.
Seeing that Lu Zhixing said nothing, Zhou Xinyue forced a smile. “I don’t mean to blame Yunshu. I really did do a lot of things wrong before. If not for me, she never would have divorced you.”
Lu Zhixing’s expression darkened. “Let’s go.”
But Zhou Xinyue stopped and asked awkwardly, “Brother Zhixing, could you bring a skewer of candied hawthorn back for Xiaowei? I’ll come to the restaurant tomorrow to help out and work. Once I get paid, I’ll pay you back.”
Lu Zhixing’s expression eased. “As long as you know to treat Xiaowei well.”
Zhou Xinyue lowered her head. “I’ve done so many things to hurt Xiaowei. No matter how I make it up to him, it won’t be enough. Even giving him my life would only be right. When I was in the mountains, I was beaten so badly my body was damaged. In this lifetime, I’m afraid Xiaowei will be the only child I can ever have…”
Those words finally moved Lu Zhixing a little. He pressed his lips together. “As long as you admit your mistakes and change, Xiaowei will forgive you. No child in this world truly blames their parents.”
Zhou Xinyue followed meekly behind him. Of course she would work hard to be a good mother. Only then, when she lost the child, would she seem even more pitiful. And the culprit, Xie Yunshu, would become even more hateful. When that time came, who would Lu Zhixing side with?
And what about the man beside Xie Yunshu? Who would he side with?
When they were almost at the entrance to the Construction Site, Xie Yunshu apologized to Shen Subai in embarrassment. “Don’t take those awful things Lu Zhixing said to heart. I know you’re an upright person. How could you possibly…”
How could he possibly be playing with her?
Shen Subai gave a quiet hum. “I won’t take it to heart. Friends are supposed to help each other.”
Look at his mindset! And then look at Lu Zhixing!
Xie Yunshu wanted to poke her own eyes out. How had she been so blind before?
Shen Subai stopped the bicycle. “You go on in first. I still have other things to take care of. As for the chef and night school, remember to come find me.”
Xie Yunshu quickly nodded. “Captain Shen, I owe you another favor.”
Shen Subai’s eyes were clear and bright, carrying a deeper meaning. “Four in total. Not too many yet.”
Xie Yunshu had the feeling that even if she sold herself, she still wouldn’t be able to repay him. She blinked her amber eyes rapidly, trying to make herself look less shameless. “I’m also very loyal to my friends, you know.”
Shen Subai hummed in acknowledgment. “Go on in. Keep moving forward.”
Xie Yunshu waved, then rode her bicycle through the Construction Site gate. Her loose strands of hair lifted and fell in the wind. Only after her figure disappeared did Shen Subai turn around and ride his bicycle in the opposite direction.
Keep moving forward, Xie Yunshu. Don’t stop for anyone.
