Ordinary Friends - Chapter 1
I looked at Qin Zheng, who was sitting in front of my hospital bed and uttered the words “just ordinary friends.” His expression was cold and distant, not at all like he was joking.
The words “Fooled you, didn’t I?” got stuck in my throat, and I could only watch him in silence.
I thought that if the doctor hadn’t called him, he probably wouldn’t have shown up at the hospital at all.
But I didn’t question him. I just paused, then forced a casual smile and said, “Is that so? Then I’m really troubling you.”
He responded with a cold “Mm,” as if I was wasting his time. He lowered his head, lit up his phone screen to check it, and said, “Since you’re awake, I’ll go now. There’s still work at the company.”
Before I could react, he stood up, ready to leave.
When he reached the door and opened it, perhaps out of some lingering sense of conscience, he turned back and reminded me, “Get some rest.”
The smile I had forced on my face only faded after he left and closed the door, until my face was expressionless.
No one knew that Qin Zheng and I were in a relationship.
Qin Zheng and I were college sweethearts. After graduation, we both moved to Shanghai, joining the city’s top company as marketing planners.
We were young then, but we knew office romances weren’t ideal, so we tacitly agreed not to tell anyone about our relationship. Four years later, we were both promoted to business managers, each leading a department in direct competition.
At that point, it was even less possible to make our relationship public, so we’ve kept it underground until now.
I once hesitantly asked him if we should go public. After all, the company didn’t have any explicit rules against dating, but every time he brushed it off absentmindedly.
I don’t even know if we still count as a couple now.
But today, I guess I finally know.
The doctor told Qin Zheng that I might have temporary amnesia, but also said not to worry, that I’d recover soon.
Even with so many things that didn’t add up, he still told me we were just ordinary friends.
Maybe he wasn’t afraid I’d “remember” and question him.
He didn’t care whether I was really amnesiac or just joking with him.
He probably wanted to break up a long time ago.
After all, if we don’t break up, how could he openly pursue Li Qingqing?
