Chapter 91 - Thoughts That Shouldn't Exist
Seeing that familiar figure, Tang Huaijin smiled and said, “This place is so close to my home, I thought I would arrive first. Have you been waiting long?”
Bai Yuerou turned her head at his words, and upon seeing Tang Huaijin, she flashed a sweet smile and softly replied, “Not at all, I just got here too. There’s still a long time before our agreed time.”
The girl wore delicate light makeup, with pale pink lipstick on her lips. Her style had changed; she wasn’t wearing her usual floral dress but instead donned a white turtleneck sweater. Though usually understated, her figure was quite impressive, with her chest prominently outlined, the hem tucked into a brown pleated skirt, revealing slender legs wrapped in white stockings.
Bai Yuerou’s outfit was clearly chosen for today’s date. Sensing the subtle anticipation in her eyes, Tang Huaijin chuckled and said, “You look great, this outfit suits you.”
Upon hearing this, Bai Yuerou’s cheeks turned slightly red, and she shyly said, “Thank you, Jin.”
Tang Huaijin nodded and smiled, “Shall we go in? I’m familiar with this place; the cinema is on the fourth floor.”
“Okay.” Bai Yuerou nodded obediently and followed him into the mall.
At the cinema, Tang Huaijin glanced at the movie list on the screen above the cashier and turned to Bai Yuerou, asking, “What would you like to watch, Yuerou?”
Bai Yuerou smiled lightly, “What do you want to watch, Jin?”
Tang Huaijin considered for a moment and said, “Let’s watch something funny and light-hearted. How about this one?”
Bai Yuerou tilted her head to look at Tang Huaijin, then pointed to a movie poster on the side, softly saying, “Jin, I want to watch this one.”
Tang Huaijin turned to look, his expression visibly stiffening–it was a horror movie.
Logically, for a couple in the ambiguous stage of their relationship, horror movies are the best choice…
This… Tang Huaijin hesitated, “Aren’t you quite scared of horror films?”
“It’s okay.” Seeing his troubled expression, a hint of sadness flickered in Bai Yuerou’s eyes, but she still managed a smile and said, “Actually, if someone is watching with me, it’s not that scary.”
“…Alright.” Since she said so, Tang Huaijin couldn’t refuse and nodded, going over to buy the tickets.
With ten minutes left before the movie started, the two found a spot to sit and chatted for a while before joining the queue to enter.
The cinema was dark, and since the movie was popular, Tang Huaijin could only get seats a bit towards the back. However, both had good eyesight, so it didn’t affect them much. They sat down next to a bunch of couples.
After a few ads, the movie began. It opened with a narrative style, a deep, hoarse voice recounting the movie’s background, accompanied by eerie music and visuals that sent chills down one’s spine.
Bai Yuerou’s face gradually turned pale, her small hands clenched tightly, instinctively leaning closer to Tang Huaijin.
With a strange sound, the scene shifted to a girl, showing half of her face with a sweet smile. The background music also eased.
But before the audience could relax, the girl suddenly turned her head, revealing the other half of her terrifyingly gruesome face, her mouth split to her ears, the once sweet smile now extremely creepy.
Some timid viewers screamed in fright, Bai Yuerou included, covering her eyes with one hand and gripping Tang Huaijin’s arm with the other, her expression filled with terror.
Honestly, even Tang Huaijin was startled. The director had perfectly captured the audience’s psyche, alternating tension and release, paired with excellent music and visuals, truly capable of scaring people.
Tang Huaijin didn’t have the mind to praise the director now; Bai Yuerou’s grip on his arm was starting to hurt. He turned to look at Bai Yuerou, seeing her pale face, tightly pressed lips, almost hiding herself in the chair, he felt a pang of sympathy.
After hesitating for a moment, he gently loosened Bai Yuerou’s grip on his arm.
Bai Yuerou was taken aback, her eyes dimming, preparing to withdraw her hand, but Tang Huaijin gently held it, placing it between their seats.
Facing the girl’s slightly surprised and delighted expression, Tang Huaijin smiled and said, “I know you’re scared, it’s okay, I don’t mind.”
Bai Yuerou nodded lightly, her lips curving into a soft smile. After hesitating for a moment, her fingers gently intertwined with his.
The movie didn’t contain any inappropriate scenes that Tang Huaijin worried about, but he forgot one issue.
The couple beside them had already started kissing, the sound of exchanging saliva making Bai Yuerou’s face flush red. She lowered her head, not daring to look that way, leaning closer to Tang Huaijin, resting against the armrest between their seats.
Watching a horror film, sitting in the back row, in such an open era, encountering such things was quite normal.
Tang Huaijin noticed too and softly asked, “Do you want to change seats?”
Bai Yuerou glanced at Tang Huaijin, blushing and shaking her head, whispering, “No need…”
Besides this bold couple, there were many other couples in the back row, all cuddling together, making Bai Yuerou’s eyes show a hint of envy, her heartbeat gradually quickening. After hesitating for a while, she released Tang Huaijin’s hand and whispered like a mosquito, “Jin, can you lift this…?”
Since Bai Yuerou was leaning very close, the armrest must have been uncomfortable. Tang Huaijin nodded and lifted the armrest.
Without the armrest’s support, Bai Yuerou’s body softly leaned against Tang Huaijin, hesitating for a moment, she gently rested her head on his chest, her small hand searching for his, gently holding it.
In this slightly ambiguous atmosphere, the usually quiet and graceful girl softly leaned against him, her warm breath on his chest, actively holding his hand. To say Tang Huaijin felt no ripples in his heart would be a lie, and Bai Yuerou’s soft hand was the softest he had ever touched. Almost involuntarily, he opened his fingers, intertwining them with hers.
Sensing the boy finally taking initiative, a hint of joy flashed in Bai Yuerou’s eyes. She made no further moves, quietly cuddling in his arms, watching the movie, enjoying the moment of ambiguity and the fluttering emotions.
Tang Huaijin’s preferred type was this kind of gentle and virtuous girl. He enjoyed the feeling of being relied on. Despite Lin Ruoxi’s assertive demeanor when arguing with other girls, she was actually a sweet, affectionate softie with Tang Huaijin, which is why he liked her and was with her.
Bai Yuerou’s gentle, water-like nature was indeed suitable for being a wife, and she would certainly be a good wife and mother. Whoever marries her would be truly fortunate.
Thinking this, he suddenly felt an indescribable sensation, shaking his head to dispel such thoughts, as he already had a sister.
Trying not to let his mind wander, Tang Huaijin quietly accompanied the girl through the movie.
As the movie ended, the audience gradually left the theater.
Only then did Bai Yuerou slowly sit up, her eyes showing a bit of reluctance, following Tang Huaijin out of the cinema.
Walking on the street, the atmosphere seemed a bit silent.
Tang Huaijin awkwardly smiled and said, “That movie was good, quite scary, I almost got frightened.”
“Mm…” Bai Yuerou’s face was red, responding softly, fearing he’d ask about the movie’s plot, she quickly changed the subject, “What shall we eat, Jin?”
Tang Huaijin thought for a moment and said, “I remember there’s a good Japanese restaurant nearby, want to try it?”
“Sure.” Bai Yuerou smiled brightly, following Tang Huaijin out of the mall.
