Chapter 120
In the early morning, Tang Huaijin hummed a tune as he prepared breakfast in the kitchen. Although his sister’s cooking skills were quite clumsy and not particularly comfortable, the immense sense of achievement and satisfaction still put him in a great mood.
After setting the breakfast on the dining table, the door to his sister’s bedroom opened. Tang Yaoyao, dressed in pajamas, rubbed her sleepy eyes, yawned lazily, and walked out of the bedroom.
“Morning, sis.” Seeing his sister, Tang Huaijin’s face immediately lit up with a smile as he greeted her cheerfully.
Seeing Tang Huaijin, Tang Yaoyao instantly recalled the embarrassing incident from last night when she was coaxed by him into doing something shameful. Her face flushed red in an instant, and she glared at him in embarrassment and annoyance. She opened her mouth but ultimately decided not to bring it up, merely letting out a cold snort and ignoring him as she headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
Tang Huaijin didn’t mind, wearing a smug smile as he sat on the sofa, waiting for his sister to join him for breakfast.
During breakfast, the siblings maintained a tacit understanding, neither mentioning the events of the previous night. Tang Huaijin continuously tried to appease his sister.
Although Tang Yaoyao still wore a somewhat aggrieved expression and felt a bit shy, she wasn’t as angry since Tang Huaijin sensibly refrained from mentioning last night. After all, although he initially guided her hand, Jin later let go and allowed her to continue on her own, and she didn’t refuse, so she felt somewhat at fault herself.
After dinner, seeing Tang Huaijin hesitating at the door, Tang Yaoyao playfully rolled her eyes at him and said with feigned annoyance, “Alright, stop pretending. I’ll drive you.”
Only then did Tang Huaijin chuckle, following his sister to the car.
Seeing him like this, Tang Yaoyao felt a strange sense of déjà vu, as if Jin had behaved the same way when he was a child and made a mistake, with a sheepish grin and a fawning smile, trailing behind her. Thinking of this, her mood improved, and a faint smile appeared on her lips.
After dropping him off at the school gate, Tang Yaoyao hesitated for a moment, then turned her head to give him a peck on the cheek. Meeting his surprised gaze, she playfully scolded, “Alright, off you go. I’ll be late for work if I don’t leave now.”
“Okay, drive safely, sis.” Tang Huaijin nodded vigorously like a pecking chick and got out of the car.
It seemed his sister was no longer angry, and regardless of everything, this was a significant step forward. This sense of satisfaction eased much of his recent inner anxiety.
“Tang Huaijin!” Just as he stepped through the school gate, a voice suddenly called from behind, causing Tang Huaijin to pause, his smile freezing.
Lin Ruoxi walked up to him with a gentle smile on her face, speaking softly, “What are you thinking about? So happy that you didn’t even see me as you walked by?”
“Uh, nothing…” Tang Huaijin’s expression was a bit unnatural, but recalling that the car at home had privacy glass, making it impossible to see inside from the outside, he felt relieved and asked, “Do you need something?”
“Can’t I look for you without a reason?” Lin Ruoxi smiled sweetly at him and said, “Come with me for a moment.”
Without waiting for him to respond, Lin Ruoxi continued, “But if you don’t come, you might regret it.”
Tang Huaijin naturally picked up on the subtle threat in her words, frowning slightly. Seeing her walking ahead on her own, he gritted his teeth and followed.
The two of them returned to the rooftop where they had been before. Since it was early morning, the wind on the rooftop was strong and particularly cold. Tang Huaijin could clearly see Lin Ruoxi’s body shivering slightly under her furry coat. He hesitated and said, “If you have something to say, say it quickly. It’s too cold here.”
Lin Ruoxi’s lips curled into a smile as she tightened her coat and leaned closer to him, looking into his eyes with a playful expression, “Oh? What’s the matter, do you feel sorry for me?”
Looking into the girl’s eyes, Tang Huaijin wanted to retort but found himself unable to speak, so he could only remain silent and gaze at her.
Not hearing him speak, the girl’s expression seemed a bit disappointed. Her gaze fell on his collarbone, and she asked softly, “Did I bite too hard last time? Does it still hurt?”
Tang Huaijin shook his head and said softly, “It doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s fine; I deserved it.”
As the girl moved closer, Tang Huaijin retreated, speaking with difficulty, “Lin Ruoxi, what do you want?”
Lin Ruoxi didn’t respond immediately. It wasn’t until Tang Huaijin backed into the wall with nowhere else to go that she gently pulled open his collar, looking at the wound with concern. Due to Tang Huaijin’s constitution, the wound had already scabbed over.
She asked softly, “Do you know why I bit you?”
“…” Tang Huaijin was silent for a moment before saying, “Because you hate me?”
“No, I don’t hate you.” Lin Ruoxi reached out to gently touch his skin, her gaze somewhat dazed, and said, “Because you lied to me.”
Tang Huaijin’s throat tightened, and for some reason, he felt a sense of unease. Trying to remain calm, he said, “What did I lie to you about? I’m really with Bai Yuerou.”
“You and Bai Yuerou? Heh…” Lin Ruoxi’s lips curled with a hint of mockery. She looked up into his eyes and asked, “Then let me ask you, do you know Shang Yueyue?”
“Shang Yueyue?” Tang Huaijin frowned, double-checking his memory to make sure there was no such person in his mind, then replied, “I don’t know her.”
A knowing smile flickered in Lin Ruoxi’s eyes. She had long anticipated that, with Tang Huaijin’s personality, he would never bother to ask for her name. Smiling, she said, “Oh? You don’t even recognize your ex-girlfriend?”
“What are you talking about…” Tang Huaijin’s tone held a trace of confusion.
“Forgot?” Lin Ruoxi reached out, gently caressing the left side of Tang Huaijin’s face, her smile faint as she said, “It was because of her that you broke up with me, wasn’t it? She even slapped you, right? When did your memory get this bad?”
The girl’s face bore a faint smile, her tone as calm as if chatting about daily life. Tang Huaijin’s pupils shrank abruptly, his breath catching in his throat.
He truly had forgotten that woman’s real name, only remembering her nickname seemed to be Yueyue.
And he could tell that Lin Ruoxi wasn’t trying to trick him. But how could this be?
Impossible. Lin Ruoxi had no reason to know. He even paid that woman extra to keep it a secret…
Sensing the turbulence in Tang Huaijin’s heart, the smile in the girl’s eyes deepened. Taking advantage of his distraction, she tiptoed and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, smiling as she said, “So, just to break up with me, you’d go so far as to find someone to put on a show and deceive me?”
Her tender lips brushed his like a dragonfly skimming the water, the moist, soft touch snapping Tang Huaijin back to his senses. His voice trembled slightly as he said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
But Lin Ruoxi ignored him and continued, “You went through so much trouble, spent so much money, willingly let everyone call you a player-what was your goal? Did you want me to hate you?”
“So you must have had a reason for doing all this.”
“What was it? Was it for the person you like?”
Seeing him about to explain, Lin Ruoxi scoffed, “Don’t tell me it’s Bai Yuerou. I’m not that stupid. You only met Bai Yuerou after all this happened.”
“So the person you like can’t be Bai Yuerou. Then who could it be?”
Looking at her thoughtful expression, Tang Huaijin started to panic and hurriedly interrupted, “Stop talking nonsense. The one I like is Bai Yuerou, and I’m already with her!”
Lin Ruoxi paid him no mind, only smiled, and rested her delicate head lightly against his chest, her voice gentle: “Tell me, if I told my sister about this, do you think she’d stand up for me?”
Tang Huaijin couldn’t bear to think about whether she had already discovered something. Forcing himself to stay calm, he said, “My sister wouldn’t help you either.”
“Oh…” Lin Ruoxi responded lightly, still smiling. “Your heartbeat’s speeding up. Are you that afraid I’ll tell your sister?”
Seeing that she didn’t seem to suspect his sister, Tang Huaijin relaxed a little. But if she really did tell his sister, who knew what kind of reaction there might be. When he had planned all this, his sister didn’t know. If she recalled what happened that week, something unexpected might happen again.
He licked his dry lips and asked, “What exactly do you want? I’ve already told you, the truth is that Bai Yuerou and I are together. She’s my girlfriend now.”
Lin Ruoxi stared into his eyes without blinking, letting out a soft laugh. “Since you don’t want to say, I won’t force you. I only have one request.”
Tang Huaijin shot her a suspicious look. “Go ahead.”
Lin Ruoxi looked at him with a radiant smile, her voice gentle. “Don’t deliberately keep your distance from me. Treat me as a friend.”
“If you can’t even agree to that, then I think I’d better go find your sister.”
Tang Huaijin hesitated for a long time before nodding reluctantly.
Lin Ruoxi smiled slightly, tiptoed, and caught him off guard with another quick kiss on his lips.
Tang Huaijin froze, then quickly pulled away, a bit annoyed, “Can friends even do this?”
Lin Ruoxi stretched out her pink tongue and lightly licked her own lips, giggling. “I’m a friend and an ex-girlfriend. Of course I can do this.”
“Nonsense. Friends are just friends. You’re not allowed to do this again.” Tang Huaijin’s face grew serious, and he didn’t dare look at her seductive gesture. He gave a warning and turned to leave the rooftop, though his steps were hurried and flustered.
Watching his anxious figure retreat, Lin Ruoxi’s face held a faint smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. She naturally had her own purpose for doing this. By borrowing the identity of a friend, she could approach Tang Huaijin without restraint. Only then would she have a chance to uncover the truth behind it all.
