Chapter 113
Looking at Bai Jingxi’s expression, Bai Yuerou laughed and asked, “Are you wondering where the flaw was that caused your perfect plan to fail?”
“Because you have no heart, Bai Jingxi. You’re like a robot. Have you ever experienced what it’s like to like someone? Do you know that feeling of your heart racing? Have you felt that bittersweet sensation that somehow feels sweet to the core?”
“You don’t even know what liking someone means, so what right do you have to talk about other people’s feelings? What qualifies you to be someone else’s psychologist? Is it that worthless certificate?”
Even with Bai Jingxi’s composure, being spoken to like this by her sister made her a bit angry. She suppressed her fury and advised, “What you think is liking is actually just your hormones and dopamine at work. After a while, it’ll fade away, and you’ll realize he’s not as great as you imagined. Besides, he has someone he likes. Your feelings for him won’t lead to anything.”
She knew of Tang Huaijin’s persistence towards her sister and said gently, “Trust your sister; I won’t harm you.”
“Heh, of course you won’t harm me; you are my sister after all.” Bai Yuerou laughed coldly, a hint of sarcasm on her lips, and said, “You only make plans for me, wanting me to live according to your wishes. I’m like a toy, manipulated by you all.”
“From childhood to now, my friends were chosen by you, my school was chosen by you, even my hobbies were chosen by you.” She glanced around her room and laughed, “Even this room was chosen by you, saying its structure was more reasonable and solid. That’s my sister.”
“But has anyone ever asked for my opinion? Mother just thinks you have the ability, that you’re my sister, and it’s all for my good, so she listens to you.”
“So when you drove away my friends, I didn’t speak up, even though I liked playing with them.”
“When you chose my school, I didn’t speak up, even though I preferred another one.”
“The most excessive was when Aunt Chu, who had always taken care of me, accidentally let me fall into the river.” At this point, Bai Yuerou’s eyes reddened, and she said, “It was winter, such cold weather, Aunt Chu jumped in immediately to save me, and her legs ended up with a chronic condition.”
“But later, she just scolded me with concern twice, and you heard it.”
“You simply asked if she was complaining about me, and after judging she was lying, you fired her.”
“I was foolishly lying in the hospital bed, thinking that once I recovered, I would apologize to Aunt Chu. But when I went to find her, you just told me indifferently that you had fired her, saying it was for my good.”
Bai Yuerou wiped the tears from her face and mocked, “Ha, for my good.”
“That was the first time I argued with you, the first time I expressed my dissatisfaction with you. Only after venting did I realize that I had hated you for so long.”
Bai Jingxi looked at her sister crying like a pear blossom in the rain, feeling somewhat conflicted, and said, “But since that accident, your health has weakened a lot.”
Bai Yuerou didn’t respond to her, continuing, “After that, you stopped openly interfering in my life, but you still kept an eye on me secretly. Why don’t I have other friends? Because I’m scared, scared that even if I make friends, you’ll drive them away.”
“Later, I met Xia Xinya, and I was surprised to find she was just like me, without a single friend.”
“So she became my friend, and I became hers. Like you said, don’t I know about her special feelings for me? I just don’t care.”
Tears kept flowing from her eyes, yet Bai Yuerou continued to smile mockingly and asked, “Do you know why Xia Xinya is my best friend?”
“Because she was my choice.”
“Do you know why reading is my only hobby? That was my choice too.”
“And now you come to ask me why I like Tang Huaijin. I’ll tell you, that was my choice too.”
Bai Jingxi’s face turned pale. This situation was something she had never imagined. Her sister was right; she was too confident and self-centered, always thinking she was acting for her sister’s good, yet neglecting her feelings.
But Tang Huaijin really isn’t the right choice…
Thinking of this, she hesitated and said, “Rou, I have no objection to you liking someone else, but Tang Huaijin…”
Bai Jingxi bit her lip, about to disregard professional ethics and reveal Tang Huaijin’s sister’s situation, when Bai Yuerou shouted, “Enough!”
“Even now, you’re still trying to control me, even wanting to choose who I like? Do I need to choose someone you approve of to be with?”
“Why, Bai Jingxi?” Bai Yuerou choked, “Is it because I’m obedient, compliant, the second daughter of the Bai Family, so I must be like your puppet, manipulated by you, living according to the blueprint you’ve laid out for me?”
“You love controlling my life so much, why don’t you become Bai Yuerou? Huh? Why? Tell me why!”
Bai Jingxi stared blankly at her sister, opening her mouth but unsure of what to say.
Seeing her like this, Bai Yuerou stopped losing her temper, turned her back to her sister, and looked up at the sky at the crescent moon.
The moon was high in the sky, its bright and enchanting moonlight illuminating the earth. As she gazed at it, Bai Yuerou’s mood gradually calmed down. After a long silence, she softly said, “It doesn’t matter anymore, Bai Jingxi. I don’t hate you anymore. From now on, I won’t have any connection with you. You are you, I am me. I’ll pretend I never had a sister like you.”
“I really don’t need your kind of good.”
Bai Jingxi naturally understood her sister; she never spoke in anger, only calmly expressed her most genuine thoughts.
Bai Jingxi once thought that no matter what happened, nothing could disturb her calm mindset. But now, she was truly flustered. Her eyes were filled with panic as she stammered, “Rou, sister was wrong. I… I didn’t mean to control your life. You have to believe me, I never thought of it that way. You are my dearest sister.”
Bai Yuerou continued to gaze indifferently at the moon, seemingly too lazy to even respond.
Seeing no reaction from her, Bai Jingxi realized that she had truly crossed her sister’s line. She had been too presumptuous, always believing that handling things according to her own logic was fine, yet she had neglected her sister’s true feelings.
No, she couldn’t let her sister give up on herself like this. Although Bai Jingxi often joked about being a carefree spirit, like a deity observing the world’s affairs from above, family was especially important to her.
While possessing an extraordinary talent, Bai Jingxi also bore unimaginable pressure. Her high perspective and ability to discern right from wrong had set her apart from her peers since childhood.
If Bai Yuerou and Xia Xinya could still be friends, Bai Jingxi truly had no friends in the real sense; family was her ultimate boundary.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she cautiously probed, “Rou, do you want to truly be with Tang Huaijin?”
Although Bai Yuerou had resolved not to speak another word to Bai Jingxi, upon hearing Tang Huaijin’s name, she instinctively turned her head and looked at her silently.
Seeing her sister finally react, Bai Jingxi breathed a sigh of relief and forced a conciliatory smile, saying, “I can help you be with Tang Huaijin.”
“You? Help me?” Bai Yuerou’s gaze was cold as she looked at Bai Jingxi, sighed, and finally spoke, “He already has someone he likes.”
“His situation is quite special…” Bai Jingxi bit her lip, not explaining the relationship between the Tang siblings, but instead, she pressed on directly, asking, “Just tell me, do you want to be with Tang Huaijin?”
Bai Yuerou was silent for a long, long time, her eyelids drooping slightly as she softly said, “No…”
Lying… Bai Jingxi looked into her sister’s eyes, and for some reason, despite the harsh words her sister had just spoken, she hadn’t cried. Yet now, her nose tingled, and she murmured, “Alright, sister will help you.”
Bai Yuerou glanced at her, opened her mouth, but ultimately said nothing more.
Bai Jingxi also remained silent, turning to leave Bai Yuerou’s room. Once back in her own room, she took out the files on Tang Huaijin and his sister from a folder. She first glanced somewhat jealously at Tang Huaijin’s photo, then slowly shifted her gaze to Tang Yaoyao’s file, as if making a decision, and gritted her teeth.
Compared to her sister, none of this mattered. What did a psychologist matter? She could just give it up.
