My Rival: The Twenty-Year-Old Me - Chapter 22
The day I received the offer, I rarely posted on my social media: “Setting sail.”
That evening, as I went downstairs, Alexander Vance was standing at the entrance of my building, smoking.
The smoke curled around his fingers, unable to mask the exhaustion that enveloped him.
I heard that the comment Ellie posted on Weibo prompted the head office to conduct an investigation into Alexander Vance’s position.
Things haven’t been going well for him lately.
His shirt was wrinkled, stubble shadowed his lips, and dark circles hung under his eyes.
When he saw me, his eyes seemed a bit dazed, and he blurted out, “You look nice today.”
I was merely wearing a black dress that I had worn countless times before.
Alexander Vance looked at me earnestly, his voice somewhat weak, “Eleanor, I heard from Sophia that you’re going abroad.”
I smiled, “I have to fulfill the dreams I had back then.”
The corners of Alexander Vance’s eyes were slightly red, his voice hoarse, “Eleanor, I always feel this shouldn’t be our ending.”
He reached out and grabbed me, “Have you thought about it at all?”
“Weren’t you always worried about Theodore when you had the surgery?”
“Why can you now completely ignore it and live your own life?”
I pulled his hand away, wanting to leave.
Feeling a warmth, he embraced me and pleaded, “One last time, accompany me somewhere.”
“Just one last time, alright?”
He drove me to our first house, which had been cleaned and was very quiet inside.
Alexander was as nervous as when he first met a client, his voice trembling.
“Eleanor, do you remember?”
“The day we moved in, we were so happy we hugged and cried the whole night.”
Even the corners of his eyes were filled with the joy of memories, “Later, when Theodore was born, we fenced off the living room, and he crawled around, so small…”
The doorbell rang.
My mother-in-law had brought Theodore.
