Chapter 12
The setting sun filtered through the glass curtain wall of the office building, bathing the lobby in a golden hue.
Unexpectedly, the client was in the same office building as Alexander Vance.
While waiting for the client, Benjamin, I ran into Alexander Vance coming downstairs with a colleague.
I hadn’t seen him in ten days.
He was dressed in a casual linen polo, had swapped his watch for a black sports one, looking fresh and handsome.
Just like Ellie said, he used to dress too old-fashioned, but now he seemed much younger.
However, the loose threads on his clothes and the dark circles under his eyes suggested things weren’t as smooth as they appeared.
Ellie mentioned that Alexander Vance had been frequently arguing with his mother over trivial matters concerning raising Theodore Vance.
“Eleanor Vance.”
Alexander Vance had already approached me.
He pursed his lips with feigned reserve, “Here to see me?”
I hadn’t replied yet.
He lowered his gaze to my eyes, which glimmered softly in the sunset, “This dress, it’s the style I bought for you a couple of years ago.”
“Looks much better than casual home wear; you suit dresses with tailored waists.”
I had just thrown on a somewhat formal dress.
Seeing my silence, Alexander Vance added, “You can come and see Theodore Vance. You’re still his mother.”
“Is that Eleanor Vance?”
Looking over, Benjamin was approaching from afar.
Tall and elegant, with a refined face, dressed in a simple white golf outfit, “Sorry, I’m late.”
I picked up the documents and nodded to Benjamin, “Hello, Mr. Benjamin, I just arrived too.”
Benjamin nodded back.
He briefly said to Alexander Vance, “I’m here to meet a client.”
As he looked surprised, I had already followed Benjamin to the elevator.
Benjamin’s company was a startup, but with ample initial funding, so the case was significant.
I took a deep breath, opened my laptop, and began to present the case I’d prepared for a month.
By the time I finished, it was already dark.
After a hundred and twenty minutes, Benjamin’s gaze seemed to pierce through me.
Feeling uneasy, I lowered my head and closed the proposal.
A flash of recognition sparked in my mind, familiar figures flickering back.
–Benjamin was my college roommate’s boyfriend.
I covered my mouth in surprise and laughed, “I remember now, you were Mia’s ex-boyfriend.”
He lightly pushed his gold-rimmed glasses with a single finger, “Good thing you finally recognized me after presenting the proposal for two hours.”
He didn’t have Alexander Vance’s striking features, but he possessed a more composed demeanor than Alexander Vance.
Benjamin’s fingers brushed over the name “Eleanor Vance” on the proposal, the fine lines at the corners of his eyes creasing into a subtle smile behind his lenses.
“I knew you were that Eleanor Vance, that’s why I agreed to meet.”
“I heard from Sophia that you got divorced.”
I nodded.
His dimples deepened, “Happy divorce.”
